Has anyone ever been on a cruise like this before?

Never have but I used to sail on Windjammer Barefoot and they occasionally had them. So by chance the following cruise I was on was one. As I watched the crew unload 2 pallets of bleach and extra towels I said to the Captain “ well I guess the crew will have it easy with less luggage” the reply was “ you would be surprised,it is more luggage….accessories .”

You get two dinners for two. If you find someone to go with you then you can treat them. Even better, find another platinum who is solo and you get four meals for two between you.

What you can't do is split your vouchers to make four meals

  3. Make sure that you are looking through the Website and not the APP. I could not order through the APP, but “bingo” it was on the website. This was just my experience, other people on the same cruise didn’t have the issue, it’s worth checking out.

I recently booked the Viva out of San Juan for February ‘25. While booking it says the Vibe is “too soon to book” and come back 120 days out. The only offering is a cabana rental. Is this a new policy? A glitch? Or does this mean the Vibe is already sold out 11 months in advance?

How does the Riverside Hotel (and that area) compare to Hyatt Place and the others? We’ve stayed in the Danai Beach area in the past but would like to stay pre/post cruise in a more walkable area for restaurants, etc, at a hotel with a  decent pool and bar.

Hyatt looks closer to Celebrity terminal, but Riverside is on the River Walk?

I have stayed at both. Hyatt house was okay because I got a good price NY weekend through Value Trips. If you are just coming in for the night and arriving mid/ late afternoon then HH would be good.

I actually stay either 2 days before or after to stay at the Riverside. Not only is it on the River Walk it is on Los Olas which is basically the oldest part of downtown ( in a good way) lots of  restaurants  to choose from at all price ranges , shops, galleries. Water taxi stop there.
3 bars on premises and a piano lounge in the lobby most nights. Fun watching the boats on the river.

Thanks…I was asking about FLL to Riverside, @antmaril had mentioned $20 by taxi, but I see now others were talking about the hotel shuttle vs taxi from the Riverside to the ship…😄

We have friends driving in to sail with us, and they will likely use the Park n Go as that looks like a very popular choice for folks with vehicles…

We’re used to staying in the Danai Beach area and that is less expensive. But the Las Olas area and Riverside looks like a nice option!

$20 to $25 will be about right, that is per taxi, not per person. Uber May be a little bit less expensive but only for a few dollars.

Would the air tags have made any difference?

Could have, would have found out if it was still in the cruise terminal or not. If it was still pretty close I would have had a general direction where it was. No matter what I could do I would know where it was.

  7. One time I had to practically wrestle my suitcase from some man in the cruise terminal who thought my luggage was his. I had to go and grab the piece that was the faded version of mine. He didn’t even acknowledge that he made a mistake. Thankfully I use AirTags for my luggage now.

I was just thinking.... What happens if you pay for the unlimited dining plan/7 night plan... But none of the restaurants have any openings or unable to be booked?

When you get on the ship go direct to wherever they are setting up reservations…they do not sell all the reservations prior to embarkation. May not get every restaurant or time that you want but I have never heard of anyone not getting in somewhere,

We are going on the TA from Barcelona on the Ascent in October this year.  We will arrive in Barcelona about 4 days prior- we have booked a few things prior including a day trip to Madrid.  Any other recommendations on tours to take while in Barcelona...we will be boarding on the 26th of October.  Our excursions while on the TA are all booked through celebrity (which we prefer while on the cruise to avoid any issues with getting back on time to the ship before departure.)

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you can give...even restaurant recommendations in Barcelona.

A trip to Montserrat is wonderful. I used Barcelona Day Tours. It  was a trip there and a stop at a Cava vineyard. I also used them for a quick tour the morning of the cruise, picked up around 8:30, dropped off at Cruise Terminal around 1:00.

I get that people have flights to catch but maybe make your flights for later in the day…

I like to eat breakfast, take my time getting back to my cabin to grab my luggage.  I don’t want to take too long because I know the crew wants to get in and get things ready for the new group coming on.  But I will push it as long as I can, and then I can pretty much just walk off the ship.

I always got the impression that many people who want to get off early drove to the port and possibly have a few hour drive they want to get out of the way.

NCL must be thrilled about one and done. They are apparently now RCCL or Carnival’s headache.

Ironic that I guess yesterday a Carnival and RCCL both had far more major issues yesterday due to weather.

If this was a letter to NCL it just screams MONEY GRAB

  12. Plan on going. Make sure you sign up to the roll call and look for your sailing on other social media sites that cannot be mentioned by name.

Dont hesitate to mention that you are traveling solo, there may be others in the same situation.

Princess usually has a solo meetup posted the first evening/late afternoon. Look for it either on the app or their daily schedule that will be in your room. When I went on Ruby Princess they only listed it that first night,

If you see a meet and mingle, go to that. Also if you like to have a drink, sitting at the bar is better than sitting alone in a chair.
Then enjoy just doing what you want to do when you want to do it. Sleep in late, read a book, party your butt off.

you never know until you try.

I have a solo inside cabin booked on the Joy to Bermuda in May.  Only later did I realize I’d be under the theater.  I’m usually not in my cabin until around midnight so I’m hoping any shows will be done by then!

    What week are you going?

Just note, the NCL shuttle isn't free, it's part of an excursion that you need to pay for. If you have the $50 credit, then it's a different story.

Yes you are correct, it came up on my App as zero cost so I mistakenly took it as just free. Should have known better

I've taken the NCL excursion to Horseshoe Bay because NCL gives you a $50 "use it or lose it" shore excursion credit, so the excursion doesn't cost anything. It works out well for me because 2 or 3 hours at the beach is as long as I care to stay.

For those who want to do other types of excursions like glass bottom boat rides the $50 credit may also make those cheaper than they would be if you purchased them directly from the tour operator.

I was thinking if I take the Free NCL transfer over then get a shuttle back if I want to stay longer.
