  1. I would not want to be aft on the Miracle, there is a very noticeable side-to-side vibration constantly at the rear of the ship. It is fine for dinner and hanging out in aft area, but to have it going on constantly when Im trying to rest would drive me insane.

  2. Same to you, bye bye! :D

Would you pull a prank on an airplane with a first time flyer?

Only on the Carnival forum do I read threads like this.

IF the person had a good sense of humor, then yes. If it would in any way offend or upset them, then absolutely not.

There is no harm in laughing at these things. However, for me personally the line is crossed when it has a negative impact on other cruisers or the crew - IF the things were actually done - this is all good humored talk at this point.

  3. We cruised Feb, 2015 and the vibration was certainly there, I really hope it has been repaired. But did notice that arrival to Cabo was not until 11:00 AM on the cruise I was checking out for Sept. 2017.

I was on board in April 2015 right after the semi-2.0 drydock and did not notice a vibration.

  4. His certified birth certificate will suffice for Carnival. Notarized letter is recommended by both Carnival and Border patrol but not required ( contrary to above posters claiming it is required.) If your son can articulate that you are his mother you have no worries.

Not quite true. See the link to the border patrol. I experienced this first hand coming across the border from Canada. Yes it was an odd, rare incident, but for whatever reason we got hung up until they could verify that I was telling the truth. I have traveled across borders north and south and cruised with the kids and nobody said a thing, except that one, rare time.

  5. It's a form of live video feed. The user can "scope", or film from anywhere and watchers can interact by making comments. The comments appear on the user's screen.

The video feed use to only be available for 24 hours but I think they are working on making it last longer.

A periscope is on a submarine not a cruise ship.

Thank you both for clarifying. I have heard of it, but never knew what it was.

  6. And folks, the above comments tells us the difference between the likes of Carnival when compared to Celebrity, Princess, Cunard, etc.

Yup, "fun" does not = class.

Sorry, but this thread really lacks the latter.

I never thought I'd be saying this either. This really surprises me to read this here.

Y'all still in high school or college?

It's just joking around. Lighten up. The lack of class can be fun sometimes.

  7. You definitely need the notarized letter with the other parent's approval to take the child out of the country. Not only may you be asked for this by the cruiseline or customs, but the airline you are flying in on may also request it. I used to work for Delta Airlines and we were required to request it.

Unfortunately, people in custody disputes have taken their children to foreign countries to keep them from the other parent. So this is to prevent those situations from occurring.

When we took my husband's children on a cruise a couple years ago, we had the letter with us. We were never asked for it. But it's best to be prepared, just in case!

I was lectured for a while about it when coming back across the border from Canada when I didn't have a letter on it. They also interviewed the kids individually to make sure I was telling the truth.

  8. I have celiacs and have cruised twice on Carnival Spirit, you notify them before you board about the special diet. On the day you board go to the dining room and introduce yourself once you board - go well before meal time - they show you the menus for the following day and you choose your meals each evening for the next day. I found them to be excellent. My meals are much more restricted now than just gluten free and they were very careful to get it right in the dining room. The chef made me special desserts on a few occasions as I also can't eat sugar.

In the buffet there is a high risk of cross contamination - the only things I eat there are fruit and boiled eggs but I have extremely bad reactions. They have gluten free cakes and bread available and you can ask which food is gluten free but eating at any buffet is risky.

The main thing is to give them plenty of notice, be very clear about your orders and ask for the same table each night so you have the same wait staff.

Once it was squared away on Breeze, the waiter would confer with her and tell her what was available the next day and if she didn't like it, the chef would come up with something that was acceptable. Remarkably attentive service for one passenger out of 4000.

  9. No need to fuss around in the casino.

Just go to the Kiosk and "withdraw" any refundable OBC in cash.

Takes about 45 seconds to set up a PIN to access your account...then withdraw the cash.

I would suggest setting up a PIN at the Kiosk anyway, as you can get a better account summary throughout the week at the kiosk than what you can retrieve via the TV in your cabin....without the wait in the GS line.

Not sure why people keep suggesting going into the smokey casino when there are a couple kiosks around the ship.

I don't believe you can withdraw NONrefundable OBC in cash. This is why people recommend the casino method.

  10. You are required to have a letter of consent from the other parent, which I believe has to be notarized. I was only asked for it once when I checked in, but my kids have my last name.

I can tell you that I had a problem coming back into the US from Canada with them once when I didn't have a letter with me.

  11. Be careful of what you wish for. If they were to merge, I wouldn't be shocked if they gave partial credits for Carnival cruises. For example Cunard or Princess gives you a point per day, but on Carnival it is .5 point per day.

This or doing what most airlines these days do and base it on how much was spent on the cruise rather than per day.

  12. insuremytrip and squaremouth are my two go-to travel insurance sites. Definitely better coverage for less money than the cruise lines.

One thing you should look at is whether they are primary or secondary coverage. If they are secondary, you have to submit claims to any existing policy you have before they will pay anything. Read the fine print!

  13. I don't think it would work.

What I would like to see, and think it would be very easy to implement, is giving the discount and room upgrades to past guests of the sister lines. That particular perk would keep me within the Carnival family more. As it is, I go with the best itinerary at the best price regardless of the line (except NCL, which I avoid)

  14. I have traveled in the Caribbean a lot via land and sea. The forecast is always the same. Always 80% chance of thunderstorms. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong. IF there is a storm it tends to form late afternoon and pass quickly. Sometimes you will even see the storm off in the distance as you sit in the sun.

    Don't worry about the weather.

  15. There was a charge I think it was 10.95 and you could also get Pizza but we never did. If you ask they have a little free snack of plantains and spicy dried peas, both good!

The Red Frog had food on Miracle? When I was on board, all they had was the spicy dried peas - and only those were occasionally out. They definitely weren't serving any food in there. Then again, they didn't have the pretzels in the sports bar yet either.

On Breeze the Red Frog food was all $3.33.

  16. Can't just tell Special Needs. Need to see the Maitre D at embarkation to preorder that night's meal. At then end either the hostess or waiter will take your next day's MDR order. Breakfast/brunch/lunch on longer cruises/ dinner.

The Maitre D was informed upon boarding - and after the first night. It was the visit to guest services (my first complaint to guest services ever) that fixed it. It was just a very very off cruise for Carnival, by the second day I had a couple things to complain about to guest services. They seemed surprised that I didn't ask for anything besides to resolve the issues. They bent over backwards to make sure everything was good the rest of the cruise.

So did she eat anything for the first 2 days?

Her food was just very delayed the first two nights. They served everybody else, including me, as she sat there at the table with nothing to eat. It wasn't cool.
