  1. The pre-bankruptcy Crystal Cruise Line is gone. Period.  What made Crystal the favorite ultra premium cruise line of many (including me) was the outstanding food, service, and ambiance.  A & K bought 2 outdated ships (with the smallest cabins in the market segment), a trade name, and a mailing list.  It did not, and could not, buy  the outstanding food, service, and ambiance.  Whether the "new" Crystal Cruise Line will equal or exceed its predecessor is anyone's guess.  However, if it doesn't live up to the expectation of the Crystal loyalists it will not be a success.  With the operations of the "new" Crystal contracted to vShips and the folks who ran the hotel side of the "old" Crystal scattered to the four winds I am not sanguine that the "new" Crystal will equal its prior incarnation.

That said, I will not give up cruising simply because the old Crystal no longer exists.  I am excited about my upcoming first trip on Seabourn and will endeavor not to compare evert minute aspect of it to Crystal.

  2. ddpe,

The Queen Mary II and QE have full size dance floors but of course Cunard is not in the same market segment as Seabourn, Crystal, etc.  Crystal has a big band/ballroom cruise twice a year on transoceanic crossings although the dance floors are relatively small and about 20% the size of Cunards'.  There is also a travel group called Dancers At Sea that offers ballroom dancing cruises, with dance hosts and hostesses, on different ships.

  3. Hi Folks,

I am a regular Crystal cruiser but I am considering taking a spring cruise on the Sirena (Crystal doesn't sail the Caribbean in the spring). I have never sailed on Oceania before. While I realize that the two cruise lines are in different segments of the market I would like to hear the thoughts of those who have sailed on both lines recently as to how different the two experiences are such as food, staff, entertainment, etc.

    Thank you.

  4. Would the folks who have sailed on both Seabourn and Crystal (and who are not cheerleaders for either) kindly compare and contrast the two lines? I have sailed on Celebrity extensively and have sailed on SS which I absolutely loved. I prefer smaller ships and my primary interests in a cruise line are food, service, and lack of lines.

    Thank you!!!

  5. Good morning,

I have taken several cruises on SS but am contemplating my first on SB. I notice there is a "club" on board. What kind of music is played there? Is there a band or a DJ? I am particularly interested in the opportunity to ballroom dance.

    Thank you.
