  1. Thank you For your post

I have no idea what you and your family went through ,I was not on the ship. You have every right to your feelings/opinions.

Don't let anyone tell you different :) I just want to say I am glad you are home safe.

    Reader

Reader put it very well. I bet your own front door never looked so good. You will take a lot of garbage for your post on here, from what I've seen recently, but your voice is as important as anyone else's. Thank you for posting.

  2. Wow....a light in the darkness...but alas, as Paul said, ya can't fix stupid....

Yes, can you believe those idiots at RCCL corporate deliberately put their 1 Billion dollar ship at risk and all the other billion dollar ships they put out there during hurrican season every year who have been dodging storms for years, just so we can all get our cruise on??? Shocking!!

It appears RCCL now wishes that they had had more consultation before proceeding:

  3. If the media is there I'd like to share some of my wisdom with them. I doubt you'll get to hear it though since I'm unlikely to give them the dramatic disaster/chaos/impending doom story they will all be wishing for and therefore it's unlikely to be aired. Someone will no doubt get their 5 minutes of fame and of course someone or other will likely suffer because of it.

By the way the weather experts on here let me down big time, bloody big mouths, however plan b worked but tomorrow I'm going to be the 5th Avenue shopping donkey.

Happy wife happy life, I think!

    A wise AND brave man

  4. This is my view on the weather and what happened.

Whether the weather be fine or whether the weather be not,

Whether the weather whatever the weather whether we like it or not.

Can we leave any further comments on the weather there please as your getting boring and giving my wife a headache which is impacting my game plan for later.

I guess we can then infer you won't be rushing to disembark tonight...

  5. I really don't know but it wasn't for our benefit. Thankfully the seas have been kind to us today so hopefully the sea sick people got a break.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of people when they got off. I think the majority will have been scared but got past it and ended up enjoying themselves.

Shaun, I think there will be a wide spectrum of reactions and opinions among your fellow passengers when they get off, and many will feel differently again in 1 to 3 weeks. It's pretty common to have a bit of a roller-coaster of feelings after an intense experience. I hope you will let us all know when you are finally on dry land, and again once you cross your own threshhold at home. You have many people on here wishing you well!

  6. Does your travel agent friend know you are planning on stealing drinks from Royal Caribbean? Please answer this question I am very curious what kind of TA would condone this thieving behavior? I am the one paying for your 'free drinks'!!!

Maybe it's time to give this a rest? That may have just been an ill-considered remark in an overheated thread, which I believe has been deleted. The name-calling and goading directed at the poster in question is really getting tiresome. Middle school is well behind all of us; can we please leave it there?

  7. Latest Update from the Captain: Picking up the pilot at 6pm tomorrow, docking at 9pm in Bayonne, and we can either do express disembarkation up till midnight tomorrow, or stay onboard until Thursday morning when it will be regular disembarkation. They'll also have free shuttles to EWR. The girl at guest services (activities staff who is manning the outside as they're not letting anyone get into guest services...) said that the cruise line will pay any airline change fees, but not for an actual new ticket. So my new ticket I purchased for tomorrow at noon will be out of my own pocket (or my insurance) but if there's a fee to move that to Thursday, RCI will pick up the tab. Apparently there will be a show on channel 22 on the ship starting at 10pm with more information.

Have they given you a letter in your cabin outlining any of this, or has it all been overhead announcements?

  8. I don't get why some of the posters don't understand that most people don't have unlimited access to funds. It would be nice if everyone lived that way but its simply not the case.

It's either people who don't think before they post or people who just enjoy being snarky. Either way, these folks have had enough to put up with, given the anxiety and disappointment they've experienced over the last few days. I hope they all have a very smooth trip home, however they are traveling.

  9. Free food and accommodations for 4 nights and the larger part of Wednesday.... Most passengers unharmed. A slight delay in debarkation due to the logistics of unloading 4 thousand people in the middle of the week when shoreside staff are usually not scheduled to work. Get a grip and deal with it.

So, you'll be picking up the tab for the second set of airline change fees for those pax who will now have to pay them? Mighty generous guy!

  10. Dear Travel Partner,

Please note that the Anthem of the Seas arrival time in Cape Liberty, New Jersey, has been modified. Our original update about the revised arrival time was estimated at 6 a.m. EST on February 10, 2016. Due to reduced speeds on the return voyage, the new estimated arrival time will be alongside in Bayonne at 9 pm EST. As this is an evening arrival and we want to ensure the comfort of our guests, we are encouraging guests to remain on board for a normal disembarkation process on Thursday, February 11th starting at 6 a.m. Those guests that choose to disembark on their own once the ship has cleared on Wednesday evening, may chose this option. Any transportation arrangements you may have secured for February 10th, should be reaccommodated to February 11th

We thank you for your understanding, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and your clients. We appreciated your continued support of Royal Caribbean International.

This & $5 might get you a frappacino, but probably not a waived airline fee.

  11. thanks for support its good to know I am not totally crazy. Knowing an eta finally has releaved some stress.

Right now I have no idea who is to blame or even if someone is. I don't know if I want to slap or kiss the captain. While I really don't know if I will ever sail again As far as rccl goes i will never sail with them again.

Shaun, you are not at all crazy and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is glad that you are doing a bit better. Are you local to North Jersey or do you have to fly? Either way, your own home will never look so good to you as it will after this!

  12. That part might be true. However, do you wish to dock and 100% of the people offload their own luggage after someone on board the ship somehow hops off and ties the thing to the dock?

When there are no ships scheduled to dock, the people who pilot the ships into the dock, tie it up, set up the walkways, unload the luggage, inspect the people coming off, arrange transportation from the pier and on and on, are off working elsewhere. It is not always possible to round up a decent sized contingent of works on a moments notice, not to mention union rules, to take care of 5,000 passengers.

Events such as this, do peel back the nasty side of American expectationalism (new word). Relax and enjoy. As long as you are on the ship, eat drink and be merry.

I do not think it is unreasonable that the passengers would expect that what they were told yesterday would have been reliable. All that logistical planning should have been done prior to RCCL announcing an arrival time. Elsewhere, one of the passengers stated that they were told they could arrange flights after 12:45pm. I would be truly put out to learn that I would now have to pay a second change fee were I in their place.

  13. Yeah all we were told was that there would be no assistance in changing flights, no hotels provided, and we could use the free wifi to change our travel arrangements. So of course I followed their instructions to book a flight after 12pm tomorrow (at a cost of $500 out of pocket). And now I'm hearing from the grapevine that we won't get in until approximately 7pm (unconfirmed at this time!).

I just bumped into Abe, the Cruise Director, and he said "yup sometime tomorrow evening" and that I should visit guest services if I need to change my flight again because clearly we were "misinformed" (exactly his words).

I'm just staying put right now waiting for the next update before changing my new flight... I also still have my original flight on Saturday if need be.

I'm so sorry to hear of this latest wrinkle. In your shoes I would be losing what is left of my mind! Let me add that I admire your calm approach to this in your post (especially if you're not feeling very calm right now!!)

  14. It becoming so frustrating. Just want to know. I feel bad for anyone who had to pay to change flights and now will have to change again but have no idea as to when.

It doesn't make sense that the port of NY would not be willing to accommodate rccl and give them a time slot knowing that everyone on board has a very dramatic experience.

I realize I may not be sounding to rational but I JUST WANT OFF

Don't blame you a bit! Many of us would be down to our last shred of patience (speaking for the type-A's of the world!) I hope you can be patient with whomever you are cruising with and not let the frustration turn into a short temper. It must be very hard, but you are almost home. Hang in there!
