We leave FLL end of Oct. for cruise and wish to arrive 1 day early need advice for good hotel with convenient access to restaurants as we will not have a car. Also would be nice if it includes airport/hotel and/or transfer to cruise pier. Thanks for advice from experienced travelers.

I'm not surprised that they should be thinking of adding to the fleet. Viking Oceans is going to give them a run for the money and their new ship will be ready in April 2015. Not far away, really. If they do build a new ship I will still sail the old ships because I like them, small bathrooms and all. I hope they never strip the life out of them like the Solsticizing did with Celebrity's M class. Old has a certain charm and I know it's not valued by some, but it is by me.
We have loved cruising 4 times with Azamara, but after being alerted via your post about Viking Ocean, I took a look at their web site and must admit it looks very appealing. Especially like the entertainment items that describe the extensive movies and lectures of upcoming ports. Really enjoyed seeing the clean design of the ship interiors and King size beds with ample space in all their balcony cabins. Surprised to see that are sold out on many of their 2015 cruises already. Should be getting Azamara's attention. Thanks for sharing Deidre -- always enjoy reading your objective commentaries.

Couldn't agree more that Ryszard is one of the hardest working officers on the
Azamara ships. He has a great sense of humor and never too busy to stop and chat with everyone. Even when he appears to be having a fun time along with the guests during activities, you can tell he is constantly observing the entire situation and mindful of the security of the passengers. He is a prime example of why we feel a part of the Azamara family whenever we see him onboard.

It's nice that the "master of the vessel" chats up the guests but I'd just as soon he was up there on the bridge, keeping an eye on the dials and his crew.
Seriously doubt that any Azamara Captain would be derelict in their duties and put socialization over responsibility. In fact, during our Dec. 8 cruise we were aware that Capt. Jose always put the safety and comfort of the passengers first.

I was on the Dec. 8th sailing and agree what others have said about Capt. Jose. He's a perfect fit for Azamara and it was a pleasure sailing with him.
We were on the Dec. 8 cruise as well and agree 110% with all the wonderful comments about Capt. Jose. He is genuinely outgoing and very interested in insuring all his passengers are not only having a great time as well as keeping a continuous eye on safety and security along with Ryzard, Russ and the all of the Quest staff. It was a pleasure to sail with this wonderful crew!

Just returned from Dec. 8 cruise in Cabin 8093 Aft. Enjoyed the larger veranda, however, reclining chairs would be more useful for the size, there was some soot, but cabin attendants were attentive.
There was a major problem in controlling the temperature in the cabin. The thermostat control did not work properly, the first three days/nights in Charleston were quite cold and we had to call maintenance several times to warm up the cabin, it was actually frigid. To the contrary when we reached the West Indies islands we experienced very warm temps, maintenance seemed able to fix it again. Heard others on board were also having climate-control problems.
Would we book this cabin again -- no.

At the risk of being redundant, we too sadly left the Quest on 12/20. Along with Joy R and the many other wonderful folks who have already commented, we wish to add our praises to the wonderful Captain Jose who was always around and about -- friendly and charming. He is a perfect fit for Azamara! The Azamazing Evening was absolutely an outstanding event. The entire operation was run smoothly and professionally and continuously watched over by Ryzard, Russ and other staff members to insure we all enjoyed the wonderful food, beverages, entertaintment onboard the USS Yorktown. Can't thank Azamara enough for a very memorable event and cruise.

We are joining in the call to move the piano out of the casino area. Our first place preference is for it to be moved to Discovery Lounge -- perfect place for a pre-dinner cocktail or after dinner digestive. Mosaic is ok as 2nd place choice. Hope this happens before our 12/8 cruise with plenty of time during the sea days of the TA to accomplish the move.

Just curious about the hair dryer problem. When we sailed in January there was an extra one in the desk drawer. You were able to sit and use the large mirror, it was perfect. Isn't the hair dryer there anymore?:(OK, I'm now confused after emailing Azamara about safety concerns with folks trying to modify the hair dryer with tape, etc. Which dryer are we talking about? The one in the bathroom is pretty much useless. The one in the desk drawer has always been good, similar to what we use at home, hope this is still the same and available!

Hi TGG: Thank you for your live reports from the Quest as we too will be on board in early December. We enjoy reading your comments and hope you find time to continue sending us posts particularly when Capt. Jose joins the ship as he will be our Master.

If I am correct and you are on Azamara, because of where you will be located you will be fine with the taxis. You may wait a few minutes for a taxi but it is an orderly process and you still have time on your side with a 12:25 PM flight.
Keith
Thanks Keith and yes you are correct we are on Azamara disembarking on 12/20. It's comforting to get your reply and another reason we find these boards so helpful. Appreciate your advice!:)

According to the Miami Port Calendar there will be 6 other ships besides the one we are disembarking from on Friday, Dec. 20th 2013 - total of 7. Will there be any problem getting taxis at the port for the airport. Would appreciate hearing anyone's personal experience and just wondering if we should take the ship's transfers (which we prefer not to do) to be sure of getting our flight on time at 12:25 p.m. Thanks
-
We are also disappointed that there will be no live music on our cruise in December. There is something so special and classy having live music any time of year but even more so during the festive holiday season.
-
OK Bill, our shoes are still on fire -- can't wait to meet and greet our new Captain Jose on our December cruise!:D
-
I recommend noon.
Can you make an earlier flight? Sometimes.
Can something prevent you from making something earlier? Yes.
So, I recommend noon to be on the safe side.
Keith
Is taxi on a Friday morning in December from pom to mia doable for an 11:40 flight or is it cutting it too close. Sorry if this has been asked too many times, just too many posts to read through.

Thank you uktog for putting this list together. We recently referred to it several times and hope it becomes a sticky so its easy to access.

Thanks for your prompt reply Beverly. We too were pleased with an upgrade to VX 8093 on Quest in December. We have read other comments about soot and will be sure to take note. Glad to hear you enjoyed the size of the balcony. We enjoy breakfast al fresco whenever possible and are looking forward to the new, larger balcony furniture. This is our first on an aft veranda cabin and starting to get excited. Will plan to leave our comments following our cruise too as this is a very useful thread -- thanks uktog for setting it up!

We've just been upgraded from an ocean view to 6093, Sunset View Deluxe! I'll post comments about this cabin soon - we're sailing on the Journey 8/18/13, Black Sea itinerary. This is a welcome upgrade, needless to say.
We are just 3 months from our cruise on the Quest in cabin 8093 and anxious to hear your comments about your recent Journey in cabin 6093 when you have time and photos to share. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Linda,
Nothing yet. Please note Bill Leiber's update from August 9th, a few posts back.
Just checking on word regarding a Captain assigned to the Dec. 8, 2013 Quest cruise.

Will look forward to your comments and hopefully photos. We are booked in 8093 on the Quest 12/08/13.

Looking for information on aft verandas (sunset verandas) that are not suites regarding vibration, soot, and photos if available. Thanks!
-
Didn't read or see anything on the spreadsheet for 8093 Quest -- we booked a guarantee and felt lucky to get this aft view cabin, but would like to hear from someone who may have been assigned this cabin in the past and possibly has photos of the veranda. Thank you
-
Hi Bill and Host Andy: We are also curious about the same for our December 8 Quest cruise. Any info as yet? Thank you

Nathalia is my favourite. I liked Farieda too, but she's left Azamara. They should get more of a mention
Phil
We want to add our vote for Nathalia. We enjoyed meeting her on the Journey in March 2011 and were delighted to see her again on the Quest October 2012 -- she remembered us and greeted us by name -- doesn't get any better than that! :D

Do the Sky Deck 9 Aqua cabins on Infinity have foot stools? Noticed them on a previous photo and just wondered if it was just on the S Class ships?
