  1. The best thing our butler, Binod, did for me was to deliver a beautifully wrapped box from the shipboard store that my husband had purchased earlier in the day.

He presented it on a silver tray as we were enjoying pre dinner cocktails in horizons with our traveling companions. How decadent and such a departure from our "normal" life! At home we take turns being the butler, but on a cruise ship, we leave it to the experts! And they are experts!!

The butlers are willing to do almost anything to make your trip special and memorable.

  2. Carol doll,

Sorry to hear about the problems on POA. I was anxiously awaiting your review because we had 12006 booked along with another suite for friends. Not anymore! Hearing that you can't have liquor in your room, inconsistent food, wear and tear, etc., we'll stick with Oceania and do a land trip in Hawaii.

I always appreciate that you tell it like it is. Maybe Oceania has spoiled us!

    Thanks again,

    Grammiek

  3. My first cruise was aboard the Home Lines Oceanic NYC-Bermuda-Bahamas-NYC in October 1978. An inside-inside cabin (if you sailed on the Oceanic you know what I mean) The dresser was in the bathroom because the room was so small. Beds came out of the wall! Not only was I hooked, I knew there must be bigger and better cabins! Just returned from my last cruise - Athens - Istanbul on Oceania Nautica in the Owner's Suite. NO dresser in the bathroom and actually a whirlpool tub!

  4. We rented a cabana last summer on our Route of the Vikings cruise. and we did not have a heater. I don't know if they are available and it never occurred to me to ask. While it was pretty chilly and somewhat windy on the 11th deck, we were sheltered by the glass. We kept the top closed and the curtain behind us pulled over. The cabana attendant will provide however many blankets you need. I wore a lite weight 2 pc jacket and pants (think GAP or Lands End) and my husband was fine in his shorts, golf shirt and wind jacket. Of course, we did make use of the blankets. Being out of the wind, it was really quit comfortable. Of course, you do have to make the walk up the stairs and across the deck to the cabana. It was soooo worth it!!!

    Enjoy!!

  5. Hello Oceans&Rivers,

    Hope you enjoyed Mother's Day!

I hope that I don't jinx myself, but I have always made my request when booking the cruise and I have found the card with the name of the cabana on the desk or with the beach bag full of goodies.

    So far, so good!

  6. Hunding,

I have one little concern about the cabana on the starboard side.....and I don't mean to start a problem, but the shuffle board and the golf net are on the starboard side as well. We were in the starboard end cabana (with our friends in the next-door one) on our Panama Canal Cruise and loved it, but the shuffle was a little noisy. We chose the port side for our next two cruises (and had it on our Route of the Vikings cruise) because it is quieter and most people going up to the 11th deck use the stairs on the starboard side as well. Not that I am antisocial, it is just that the port side seems more peaceful. I must add that we thoroughly enjoyed them both!!!

You are so gonna love it!!!!!!

  7. OOPS! I did forget to tell you the price! On our Panama Cruise Canal (16 days) and the Route of the Vikings (14 days) it was $750 for the whole package. On our New England Cruise (12 days) it is $500 for the package.

  8. The cabanas on Regatta are wonderful! We have booked one every cruise since our Panama Canal Cruise (and boy, did it come in handy!) I have never been in the cabanas on HAL, but I can speak from my experience on O. All of the R ships have them. They come equipped with a double balinese bed, a table, fan, phone to reach personnel. The cabana personnel will serve you fruit skewers in the a.m., bring you lunch from the grill, ice cream for dessert and/or high tea. Drinks can be ordered at any time and they are always available to bring blankets if you need one (and we did need blanketS on the Route of the Vikings). If you order the cabana package for the whole cruise, you will find a great beach bag loaded with hats, towels and sun products in your cabin on arrival. It is a wonderfully peaceful place to read, talk or just watch the world go by, and no worrying about finding a lounge by the pool.

    Try it, you'll like it!
