  1. I've seen some postings online about cabana rentals in the Getaway and Breakaway Vibes, but perhaps they were a few years old. For those that have been on Getaway recently, are there still Cabanas for rent? If so, can they be booked in advance? Cost?

    TIA!

I was on the ship exactly a year ago. They cannot be booked in advance. You pretty much need to be one of the first people on the ship and RUN to Guest Services and line up to get one. I cannot remember how much we paid but a portion of the cost ends up as onboard credit in your account. (i.e. $350 for the cabana, you get $100 in onboard credit).

I will note it was worth the early arrival to the port and every penny in cost.

  2. On Carnival, typically spa treatments are discounted on port days. Is that the case on Royal Caribbean? If so, does anyone have additional detail? It's been many years since I have been on RCI! I am considering taking spa day in Cozumel on our upcoming Allure cruise since I've been there many times. Thanks!

I was just about to post the same question. I am interested in learning about discounts to the thermal (sauna/steam room/lounger area) on Allure. We are staying onboard in Falmouth and thinking about a spa day.

  3. We had a spa balcony on Getaway last year as well as a Vibe Cabana. I will say, for us (30-something, no kids), the Vibe was way better. If choosing one or the other I highly suggest Vibe passes.

The pool areas on Getaway, and I am assuming the same for Escape, are jammed packed on sea days. The pool deck is just a sea of bodies and there are narrow walk paths for people as they transit certain areas. The Vibe affords a quieter place to relax with its own bar.

The Spa area was nice for a day or so but after that it got a little bit boring. We enjoyed having the extra shower area for getting ready for dinner. I typically showered up there while my wife got ready in the cabin. We are used to spas we've visiting in Europe and were surprised to find the spa is coed so bathing suits are required. Not sure if you've ever sat in a steamroom with a bathing suit on, but it is pretty uncomfortable. My wife felt the same way.

  4. I'm about to have a heart attack with the prices for my dates. A lot of them are higher $200 range to over $300. WOW!

My March '17 cruise will be my 4th out of the SoFla and I'm pretty sure that dollar amount is normal on the weekends. I've had to use Priceline to get something reasonable. I stick to 3.5* and above and have always had good luck. One year I got the Hyatt Pier 66.

IF you prefer to you know the hotel ahead before booking, then I would do a search on Hotels.com for hotels near the Embassy Suites 17th st. As was mentioned, there is a Publix there and a bunch of restaurants.

  5. I proposed to my now wife on the Freedom of the Seas. I did it on our balcony before sailaway. We saw 2 couples get engaged in Central Park during our Allure cruise a few years back.

The helipad idea is pretty cool. I think it all depends on the personality of your girlfriend. My wife made a point of telling me she did not want a big scene when I proposed which is why I opted for the privacy of our balcony. Just something to consider.

If you have that money to spend, a better idea for it might be to take her to the NextCruise office. After booking, explain you hope that will be your honeymoon, then drop the rock!

    That's pretty strong!

  6. Anyone know where you catch the national shuttle once disembarked or how early they run?

I used National after our Getaway cruise last year. Walk off the ship, outside the baggage claim area and across to the center sidewalk. If memory serves me right, the rental car shuttles were to the left and all the ways down the sidewalk but it could be that's where there was an empty space for the shuttle to park.

National's shuttle from POM to MIA was awesome. It took roughly 20 minutes to get from pickup to the front seat of the car. I recommend having a print out of your reservation instead of fumbling with the app. The shuttle driver was not letting anyone near the bus if they did not have proof of a reservation.
