  1. I'm a lil lost... are we still talking about laundry?

Maybe I have not yet had enough coffee... you guys are confusing me (and that doesn't take much in the morning) I had to re-click the link just to make sure it was the right thread!

Yes it is a little convoluted. Someone talked about laundry perk being abused by some which leads to a discussion of people abusing the Service animal rules. It is off topic and I'm guilty of responding to the Fifi post. Sorry!:o

I'm looking forward to the free laundry but I wish they did not wash in hot water. They need to wash in cold or warm at most. The only items I ever wash in hot at home are white cotton items and white towels. As I don't personally own any white cotton clothing and don't plan to bring towels, I'm concerned about this.

  2. Who cares if Fifi is onboard?

    How does this affect you?

These sort of post simply makes it more difficult for those who absolutely require the use of a service animal.

I would love to have my toy poodle come everywhere with me but the simple fact is that it is a poor environment for the animal (no where to run and play) and if everyone brought their "Fifi" with them it would sound like a kennel on board and NO one would be able to relax. I understand allowing service animals that are truly needed but ONLY where they are actually needed. There are animals that do truly amazing tasks for their masters. For example there are dogs who can sense when their master is going to have an epileptic seizure and can warn them so that they have time to lay down in a safe place rather than falling down a stairwell or other dangers. It would be reasonable for that animal to go EVERYWHERE that person goes as you never know when a seizure might happen. On the other hand there are also instances of abuse of the system. For example one person here at cruise critic complained that she should be able to bring her "sleep apnea" dog to the main dining room with her. Was she planning to SLEEP there???? People who abuse the system make it harder for those who truly need the assistance of their service animal.

  3. Really? ...skycap, porters, bellmen... get connecting luggage...last year I brought 150 pounds of baggage (3 pieces checked plus a carryon) to Aruba for 2 week vacation...on my own.

So at local US airline luggage rates you would have spent several hundred dollars to transport your wardrobe rather than doing laundry. Heck, I would just go use Carnivals $3 washer and dryers before I would do that. I'm looking forward to the laundry service but only for undies, pajamas and bathing suits. I probably won't trust any of my regular clothing to the hot water and hot dryers.

  4. When we get closer to the cruise I will post somepictures of myself, so everyone can find me.

Don't want to post them to soon and scare away any new people. :p

Will post them after final payment...:)

Will this be your first time in Miami??

    bobmal99

    Bob,

I don't think you are going to scare anyone away from a cruise. We are all getting older, and my brown hair gets quite a bit of help from "Miss Clarol". :o

This is not my first time to Miami but I have usually flown in on the morning of the Cruise to decrease time away from work. So I really have only stayed in a hotel once in Miami. It was a shabby but clean little place called "Runway Inn Miami Airport". It had the advantage of being cheap (about $70) and had free shuttle to and from airport and cruise port which was convenient. As I arrived at 12 MN for that stay I really only needed a place to sleep so was not picky that trip. Would like to stay somewhere nicer this time but still avoid getting too pricey. :)

  5. Single 60, and loving it.

    Cruising solo on the

    Carnival Glory, out of

    Miami 12/9/12.

    Come on down..

    Hey Bob,

I've seen your stage name at the roll call. I'm also single, 52 female, you can see my picture on my profile so you'll recognize me on the cruise. I'm doing B2B on the Glory 12/2/12 to 12/16/12. Wave or say hi on the ship!:)

  6. I read the horror stories but really 321 for an OV. I am sure I will survive. Only in my 40s so can get by and suffer. Never done anything but a balcony. But I can drive and park for free so seems like a way to spend 5 days in misery. I got plenty of luxury at home but the beach is prettier then my view.

Nassau is certainly the same even if you take a Garbage scowl to float over to her but while the Monarch is not quite that bad, she is not up to the usual standards.

  7. had to jump on it...April 30, Port Canaveral 4 day Monarch of the seas for 321 total for window view..I know an old ship but such a good price why stay home. Always had a balcony but now at 200% trying to cross over. Plus first time RCL and not celebrity or carnival.

Usually RCCL is high quality but this is not true of the Monarch. I went on Monarch in Feb this year. The rooms are very small, the Karaoke and other entertainment is almost nonexistent. The seats in the show rooms were so uncomfortable I was unable to sit in one for an entire show due to back pain it caused. I met nice people and the food was good but while I always enjoy a cruise, the Monarch was the one I least enjoyed. It was not worth the $421 I paid and for me would not be worth repeating at any price since it wasn't worth the airfare and transfer fee I paid to get to Port Canaveral. They really need to retire the Monarch NOW!

  8. Deck 6 (6244) on the Triumph/Victory. We were right above the speakers in the show lounge. The floors vibrated from the noise late into the night and you could hear the shows very clearly. We were traveling with small children at the time and wanted them to get some sleep. It was impossible. Questioned the location of the cabin when I booked it with TA and was assured "ships are built better these days and you won't hear a thing" Yeah right!

Since then I have always booked a cabin sandwiched between passenger decks and have not had a problem. Just turned down an upgrade from deck 5 to deck 8 on the Pride in two weeks...it will be much quieter than under the Pizza area.

Usually the main show lounge doesn't have anything going on after the 2nd showing of the production show. I'm assuming these would usually be over by 11:30pm. Not a problem for me since I'm usually up till at least midnight but would be a problem for folks with children.

  9. Hi,

I am a 40+ single female looking for a good recommendation for a quality cruise that affords opportunity to meet single, available males.

Does such a thing exist???? Is a cruise not such a good venue for meeting a potential mate?

I don't seem to have great luck with the online dating services.

    Sqic

I have not really met any "available" men (although I've met a few men on the prowl) on the cruises and I've been cruising since 1999. I'm booked for Cruise number 17,18, and 19 this year and two of these will be solo. I'm already seeing a man on an on-again off-again basis and am not really looking to hook up but I just love to cruise. I find I enjoy a solo cruise as much as those that my family comes with me for. I guess I'm also a romantic at heart and it would be nice to meet someone that could, not only be my best friend/soul mate, BUT who also enjoys cruising but I'm certainly not expecting it! :o

  10. Oh I am SO jealous! Would love to do a cruise on the French Riviera!!! You really do become addicted to traveling once you take a trip like this! I don't know if I can stop now:)

You will have to post pictures when you get back. You will LOVE Paris, it is so beautiful and full of so many great things to see and do:) And despite what some say the people were very friendly there from what we experienced.

Stacy, As I said before thankyou for the wonderful review. I would love to go to Paris! Where did you stay? What is the best but most cost effective area to stay in and did you do any tours while in France that you especially enjoyed or just use the paris museum pass to go everywhere?

  11. great pics and all but what a bout the ship, you dont even mention it:(

You've got to be kidding!! A cruise is not just about the ship. Its the whole thing, ship, ports, tours, sunsets.....everything!!! This is probably the best review I've ever read and it brings back such memories of our Trip to Rome in 2009. I'm amazed that they were able to see So much in only 1 day. We were there for 4 days before our Mediterranean cruise and so were able to sit in road side cafés and sip wine at a more leisurely pace but probably did not see much more than they. I'm impressed! :)

  12. Can anyone tell me how to find out how many cabins have been sold on a particular cruise? The thread for our cruise (Sapphire Princess, July 14 Vancouver to Whittier) is really quiet. I was wondering if, perhaps, the cabin sales are sluggish for this sailing.

The roll call for my Cruise on Island Princess from Whittier to Vancouver is also VERY slow. Few people on it and the ones who are on do not bother to read the entries since their last visit as they do not respond yet according to the various travel sites the Cruise is sold out which means there are thousands of folks cruising with us! So I guess alot of folks just don't participate in the roll calls.

  13. Hm... That's interesting. 1.5 liters is two bottles. If I'm correct, Carnival typically allows 2 bottles per person (or 4 bottles for 2 people). So if you can only bring 1.5 liters in a box per 2 people, you are bringing less.

Most boxes are 4 x 750ml bottles/box. I had hoped to bring one for my boyfriend and I to share for the duration of the cruise...

    Thanks!

The limits listed above are incorrect. Carnival allows up to 750ml per person or 1 bottle per person which ever is less. I once could only find mini-bottles on my way to the cruise terminal from the airport so I bought two 325ml bottles per person for a total of 4 of these little bottles for my sister and I. When I arrived at the ship Carnival confiscated 2 of the bottles and told me the above information.

  14. Monarch of the Seas - Feb 6 and Feb 13 - 4 nights. I just booked the 2/6 cruise. Outside cabin for $311 total (incl taxes & port charge). single supplement was only 125%.

I've been looking for another solo cruise and this worked out great.

I called hoping to get this same rate but for the Feb 13th date. On the day I called they had neither rate and the lowest was $421 (incl taxes and port charge) on 2/6/2012 so I took that. 3 days later they lowered the price of the 2/13/2012 date that I originally wanted to (U guessed it!!!) $311 total. Its not that the $421 price is bad but when you add curise line air, shuttle fees, insurance ect my total bill was almost $1000 so it would have been nice for it to be $110 less. I called and asked about this but was told there was no discount I could receive because the date I booked (because I was told it was cheaper than my originally requested 2/13/2012) was still $421. Next time I hear about a great deal, but they tell me its not available, I will wait and watch for a few days before booking. :p Anyway, It will still be a blast. (THERES NO SUCH THING AS A BAD CRUISE!!!) :D In any event, I will also be on the 2/6/2012 Monarch cruise to Nassau so I'll see you there.

  15. I buy drinks but since I drink long island teas and only 2 per day my bar tab isn't too high.

I have bought the art at the auctions since I'm a Thomas Kincaid fan and they have numbered prints at reasonable prices. Much less that the local Kincaid gallery.

I don't buy a soda card but only because you get only fountain drinks on the card and I don't like the Sacarine that is used in fountain diet drinks.

I don't use the laundry service. I have usually packed so much that I end up not even wearing 1/3 of what I bring so why do laundry?

I must use a computer in my work and don't go near one when on Vacation so no nasty internet fees.

I sadly usually have a significant bill at the end of the cruise but less so since I have started trying to stay away from the Thomas Kincaids!:D
