  1. We’ll be doing an Alaskan cruise on the Quantum with family members. I have a number of questions after having read many posts and reviews about the ship. 1. Are the main shows always performed twice a night? If so, what are the times? Or do they jump around like on the Oasis class? 2. How limited are the hours for bumper cars, roller skating, I fly and Northstar? (I’ve seen different prices for Northstar & I fly ranging from $15 pp to $30 pp! Except free on port days, heavily booked, and long wait lines.) 3. I understand the menus in the four main, free dining rooms are all the same. However, do the entrées and things change nightly or is there a lot of repetition? Are there certain specialties in each of these restaurants, each night that difference between the four restaurants? (We were recently on an E class ship on Celebrity that had the four dining room style. We did not like it at all and found the things served were very, very repetitive. Did not know Quantum had a similar dining style until after we had already booked it. ☹️) 4. What did you think of the Royal Promenade style on the Quantum as compared to the Oasis and Voyager class ships? 5. Did you like the shows? I understand there is no Broadway musical style show on the Quantum, even though Kinky Boots is on the Ovation. 6. If you had children or teens, did they enjoy the special activities & venues for their ages? Sorry for so many questions! If you can only answer , one or some, of the questions, please do. Would greatly appreciate any helpful input.
  2. I never realized, reallyitsmema (great screen name, by the way!) that re connecting cabins, the one that sleeps more than two is always on the right when you’re facing the cabin entries from the corridor. Great tip! As for searching for a cabin via Google, I’ve searched for exact cabin numbers on certain ships before, and different ones come up. I don’t usually get the actual cabin. Most often I get a cabin of the same type in that category. Maybe I’m not lucky or looking hard enough. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
  3. Thank you so much, reallyitsmema! How did you find out? njcruzer, i’ve seen videos of the Quantum‘s interiors and photos of various cabins, but no way to tell what cabin most of those are. Thanks for the suggestion.
  4. Thank you both for the info. I also assume both ships have the exact same cabins according to numbers, but??? I know the cabin holds three. I’m more concerned about where the bed(s) and sofa are located as the locations vary.
  5. Does anyone happen to know where the bed is located in cabin 6692 on the Quantum OTS? Wondering if the bed is just past the bathroom or is it more towards the balcony end of this cabin? I know that, in general, the cabins side by side, alternate bed locations. Cabins 6690 & 6694 are on either side of 6692, so it’s likely it is the opposite of those. Thanks for any information!
  6. Thanks for that link, jeromap! Will be on a royal Caribbean ship, and I was able to find our pier
  7. FaceTime looked at some of those already, but thank you. I’m sure we will find something. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for replying. I know that’s true and many, many ports, but fear Alaska might be different because it’s not as highly populated in the small port towns as many other places we visited. Dd needs to decide if it might be better to skip an Alaskan cruise this year and shoot for some other year.
  9. dfilpus, got me thinking maybe we can bring the scooter. I can just fold it up into suitcase, size and lift it down the steps. DH will probably tell me not to bring it though.
  10. Mendenhall does have ADA accessibility. You can get more information here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/about-forest/offices/?cid= The above reply to was posted by Coram a few minutes ago on my duplicate question post. (Huge thank you to her!) i guess the powers that be pulled that duplicate post off which is fine. Since that title is now missing. I just hit the back button a number of times until I got to it, copied the post on that thread and moved it onto this one so others can see it.
  11. Thank you so very much for this link, Carol! Super helpful. I think it will be doable for us..
  12. Wondering if anyone out there who has taken a regular bus tour to Mendenhall glacier, could answer a few questions. Would the terrain at the sightseeing areas in the park and around the visitor center be difficult for someone with a a bit of a walking disability? We are considering doing the blue bus to Mendenhall glacier. While my DH can walk a fairly good distance, although just a bit slower than a normal gait, he must be careful. Hilly trails & bumpy, rocky, terrain or icy ground can be difficult to undoable for him. He often avoids areas require a very good balancing ability. We have a small foldable travel scooter, but of course, would not expect to be bringing that on this particular tour as I’m pretty sure it would be impossible to use there. Any information about the destination would be helpful.
  13. If you are sailing on the Encore or the Bliss, from mid June to mid July, are you finding most of the shore, excursions, especially the best ones, are already booked? I’m guessing they likely are. Family members about to book a cruise to Alaska on another line, but the excursions are said to already be sold out. So before they finalize, just wanted to check and see what I can find out. Thanks for any helpful info. (For the record, most independent operators are also filled.)

  15. Good point, but it was already happening somewhat before Covid. Been on over 50 cruises and I started noticing it some while back. I agree though in Nassau we have been there when there are eight ships! I agree that size and number of ships definitely points to that and somewhat, no doubt, Covid causing companies to fold. Thanks for your reply.
  16. We & our dd, her husband, & their 3 kids are supposed to finalize a cruise that is 3 1/2 months away by Monday. However, I read on a social media rollcall that most of the excursions are already sold out. Additionally, the cost of many of these runs very close to $200 a person! Yikes! There was one particular excursion that dd’s family was very excited about doing. Unfortunately, I think that excursion is sold out already through the ship as well as through other channels. I checked online to see if it would be bookable independently. Unfortunately, on the various vendors’ availability calendars, most, if not, all are sold out as well. I’m now wondering if we should finalize this cruise. Being able to book several months ago was not an option due to restrictions on vacation time and so on. It’s unfortunate for those who can’t jump online the second excursion booking opens up and choose what they are going to do in the ports. Some years back RCI are used to hold a few slots open for pax unaware of early booking. I doubt this is the same anymore. (?) My dh and I just got off of a Celebrity ship two and a half weeks ago. Same thing occurred on that ship. It seems to be extra common now. Especially since so many of the ships are carrying 3,000 - 5,000 passengers with some about to debut carrying over 5,000! If anyone knows of any ways to get around this, please chime in! Feel free to vent about this issue as well, lol!
  17. On the deck plans for the Encore, there are a lot of spaces or openings in the deck layout where you can’t tell what is located there. I’m particularly curious as to the area directly behind the aft staircase? Have wondered about spaces that show no title on deck 12 as well. Any help appreciated.
  18. Those ships are about twice as much, which adds up for a family of five.
  19. Thanks so much for the replies. I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about there multi-day, land tours, but good to hear you had a good experience, Julig22. kitcat343, i’m not sure if you are referring to a land excursion in port, or an actual multi day tour pre-or post cruise. It’s the multi day tour information I was referring to. Additionally, we did our only other Alaskan cruise six or seven years ago and booked it around this time of year. The cruise was in late May. I tried to find a rental car so that we could do some traveling on land after our cruise. I had read they get taken up fast and that is what I ran into. We had just booked to late. Couldn’t find one, so we ended up on the land tour with Princess and enjoyed it very much. Thanks again.
  20. Would like some input from those of you who have taken a pre-or post cruise Alaskan land tour with NCL? I noticed some posts by people who are signed up for some on a particular rollcall, and although their cruise is getting close, cannot find out much at all about the tour. Even those who booked directly with NCL cannot seem to get any information. This includes train, hotels they will stay in, and other things. We once did such a tour with Princess and it was wonderful. We did have all of these details well in advance of our cruise. thank you for any information.
  21. If you have sailed on NCL’s Jewel within the last few years and took kids along, how did your kids like it? Our DD is thinking of booking this ship in Alaska for her family. Her children will be newly eight, almost 10, and almost 17 at the time of sailing. They were all on a Disney cruise about two years ago and Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas about a year ago. I’m just trying to make sure there are things the kids will enjoy doing on this ship, because if they are happy, the parents will be happy. if you have cruised with your children on the Jewel, did it iseem like NCL’s facilities and activities for kids in these age group were very good? Were there good hosts & fun things scheduled for these age groups? I would really appreciate getting some good first-hand reports - asap!
  22. Yes I have. I definitely will before deciding to book the cruise. I am certain that anything that is the slightest bit complicated or isn’t super easy, DH will veto! Even getting him to wear rain pants will be next to impossible. Maybe he will just have to use a cane and get drenched or stay on the ship when I venture off. Sound mean, don’t I? I guess the amount of trouble a person is willing to go to is often connected to how badly they want to do something. Thanks for the advice.
  23. Thanks so much for the information, JSR. (I was a bit late in reading your reply it as we were gone for almost 3 weeks on a cruise and visiting my brother. I pretty much stayed off of the net most of that time.) Great suggestion about trying to cover parts of the scooter, but I fear it would be quite a feat as there electrical parts in the steering column, dash, and floor of the scooter. I thought of bringing a very large garbage bag, and if it starts to rain heavily, folding up the scooter and putting the garbage bag over the top, then trying to get to cover. DH isn’t the type that likes to prepare for any situation. I am the opposite. You’re always unexpected things that arise when traveling and so much boils down to attitude when things aren’t going just right. Glad you enjoyed your trip in the rain didn’t really hinder you or your enjoyment. once again, thank you for all of the information you have gone to the trouble to put on here to help the rest of us.
