We did this itinerary Christmas/NYE 2018. Your itinerary is almost identical to the one we did. It is a wonderful cruise!

Perth is a lovely city. Plenty to do for a couple of nights. There is a lovely waterfront and great restaurants right in the city. Look to see if they will hold the holiday show in the park while you are there. We were there over the same dates as you, and it was really wonderful to be outside in the park with the holiday music. Also, try to tour the prison in Fremantle, where the ship docks.

Albany is a small town and easy to walk. We didn't do anything special other than wander the town and visit shops.

In Adelaide, you will want to take the train from the cruise port into the city. It was SCORCHING hot the day we were there. Plenty to do in the city. No shortage of food and shops. They also held our Azamazing Evening in Adelaide, which was a performance by a known Australian pop singer. It was held in a beautiful venue, but it was nothing amazing. Worth it just to see the venue to have a nice evening with other passengers.

Kangaroo Island was incredible! We booked an island tour through the ship. Fantastic guide and incredible wildlife. We saw plenty of koalas and kangaroos out in the wild. We were able to get fairly close to the koalas that were in the trees. We also toured the coast and some of my favorite travel photos are from this day. I don't know how the wildlife situation has changed since the fires. It varied from warm to cold, depending on where we were on the island.

In Sydney, you'll dock at White Bay, which requires a bus ride to the city. Plenty to do in Sydney, obviously. Darling Harbor is right across the harbor from where the ship docks, which we did for dinner one evening. We did a NYE event through Azamara - dinner and fireworks viewing from the zoo. It was incredibly expensive. We liked it, but a lot of people complained about it. Do plenty of research about what options are available for NYE and do price comparisons. I don't know what Azamara will offer through the cruise line for 2021, but keep an eye on the cruise line pricing vs independent booking. Do your homework for this one!

The other ports, we didn't visit, as our cruise did Tasmania instead.

    Have an amazing time!!

Thanks for all the tips and information really appreciate it would like to visit the prison in Fremantle and the park all sounds amazing ! So do you think if we stay onboard we would miss out on good firework display happy to stay onboard if we get a descent view and maybe a buffet party onboard as we have a couple of older family members in the party that would prefer to stay onboard NYE  Thanks Sue

If Australia is not safe by then we will all of gone mad 🙂

I see your cruise ends in my home town of Melbourne. It will probably be around 90 degrees Fahrenheit but dry heat at that time of year. If you tell me your interests I can help with suggestions for Melbourne.

Hi Yes it ends in Melbourne unfortunate we don't get any time in Melbourne as we fly back home from there same day as we embark the cruise ship real shame that

    Thanks anyway

  3. Hi we have Explorer 2 booked in May i would like to know if we can visit Sorrento when we arrive to the ship at lunchtime before we set sail at 6pm? Wondered best way to get a visit in before we set sail has anyone else done this so basically suitcases into cabin and out to explore it is one of the places we really want to see but no excursion as its on 1st day and last day hope someone can help thanks  Sue

  4. It is possible that P&O are trying to manipulate (sorry, persuade) passengers to take the early/late slots. But if it's Valentine's Day, then the most popular slots may already be booked up and you may be unlucky. Perhaps Epicurean offer better times on the particular night you need?

NauticalMiss that is what i thought especially with it being Valentine day but i tried every evening just to see and it was all the same just allowing to book the two slot times !

  5. Hi due to go on Azura in February and have tried to book Sindu for 7pm on one of the evenings but when i go to book it on Cruise Personiliser it will only give me two option times of 6.30 and 9pm is this what they do i,m confused are they trying to fill early and late places first any help greatly appreciated thanks Sue:D

  6. Hi we are taking our 10 yr old Grandson on Majesty in 2 weeks time would like to know what as a woman/man and young grandson would take to wear on the formal nights they both have tux but have read mixed reviews on what the majority will wear as my grandson will in his words wear a tux if other boys are ? Thanks in advance:):)

  7. No chance whatsoever! You agreed to the price when you booked - and companies are entitled to change prices as they wish (demand is low they reduce prices, demand increases and the price will rise again).

I am sure that you will find this in the small print of your booking details.

Sadly, booking early is no guarantee of getting the best price.

    Campolady thankyou for that :)

  8. Hi there,

We are off on the Maj later this year with our 10 year old daughter, our 4th cruise on Thompsons. There is plenty to do in the kids club, and they split the sessions by age range. They have sports competitions, competitions on the X-box, they will do a tour of the ship, they will have a "movie & pizza evening", they have parties ... All sorts of stuff. One of the main reasons we book Thomsons is because the child care is so good, on board

Ahh thanks for the reply sounds really good then as he loves all those things sure he will have lots of fun
