Grab some veggies and have the pizza makers add them to your pizza. yum!

Excellent - I was thinking of that but I was going in the wrong direction.  I was getting the pizza and then putting some veggies on it.  Thanks for straightening me out!

  2. Passing time, dreaming of cruising, staying out of "public places" -- thoughts of cruising sure help!

I remember reading a year or so ago about fun things that people were doing in the buffet (I know, I know....that sounds kinky). Let me give you an example or two and these are quite well-known, been around for years, and easy -

Arnold Palmer - 1/2 iced tea + 1/2 lemonade (to taste, of course)

Double R Burger (Roy Rogers) - Hamburger of your choice from Guys Burgers + ham slices from salad bar area.

and now that I have begun my list, I've forgotten the ones I wanted to mention.  Although I do know that in the MDR, when they have chocolate melting cake, I'm going to order a side of peanut butter (I am addicted to peanut butter and chocolate!).

What other combinations and mixes do you do?  Do you have any favorite little "recipes" that you concoct in the buffet?  Let us know - inspire us.

  3. Just a quick question for seasoned travelers out of Charleston, SC.  We are on the Oct 26 Sunshine sailing and will be flying in the day before.  We have a new scooter that folds into a nice rolling size (Pride Go-Go).  What would be a good choice in either a taxi or limo that has room for scooter and walker, from airport to hotel and back to the airport the next day?

  4. Hey OP is this for next year (2019?)

I will be at the Manhattan Cruise Pier in 28 days. I will be having my breakfast watching disembarkation of 2 ships before we board. Will watch for people needing assistance and how handled. Will come back and post an answer!

We were looking at MSC Meraviglia for the beginning of October, 2019. Easiest for us to fly to than Miami (we're over by Lake Ontario above Syracuse) and I really like the looks of the Canada/New England ports of call.

  5. Am trying to determine if we can do this cruise.

MSC Meraviglia next Oct. (pier 90 I think). Too early to tell if MSC will have airport transportation, but...

Arriving at port should be okay. We are older and husband uses walker (loses races to turtles!).

My concern is debarkation. I’ve read that you have to go across the street to get transportation back to airport. Hubby on walker, 2 suitcases, 1 carry-on, purse/bag etc. — I don’t know if we’re gonna make it across the street.

Please tell me if I’m wrong in my thinking.

  6. I wrote and asked about it last week. That's half the fun of preparing for the cruise. Here's the answer, I received from JH:

It was operationally that we decided to do this because of some of the challenges we faced. I’m so sorry if this causes you some frustration and if you have any concerns once you try and check in please do let me know. I will certainly pass on your comments to hold the right people.

"operationally"... exactly what does that mean?

  7. Renovation...remodeling...enhancing - it's all a great idea, but why is there a need to change the name?

"Legend says that when every ship is christened, its name goes into a "Ledger of the Deep" maintained by Neptune (or Poseidon) himself. Renaming a ship or boat means you're trying to slip something past the gods and you will be punished for your deviousness."

  8. Question, please. Some people talk about receiving notices from Players Club by email. I see my offers online and the snail mail comes a week later (sometimes long after all the cabins are taken). How can I find out about receiving the emails? I know, the obvious answer is to go to Players Club and make sure you're registered. Which I've done, but there's no place to enter my email.

Hope you're having a great Saturday morning

  9. Excellent post; thank you so much for reminding us of the importance of each and every day.

Just about 3 years ago, my DH suffered a stroke. We have kids in Washington State, Rhode Island, Florida - we told them to stay at home, that everything would be okay with time (and it pretty much was after very intense physical therapy).

I booked cabins for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for the Vista two years ahead of time. The airfare, bar bills, excursions would all be on them but they would have a cabin. It took two years of payments but in December seventeen of us sailed on the Vista. It was the first time our family had been together at same time in 10 years. Brothers and sister had a ball, cousins meet each other for the first time, and my husband and I spent 8 days smiling at each other. My dream of a "staircase photo" became a reality!

Bless them all - we have wonderful, wonderful memories.

  10. In December, we did a back to back on the Vista. The first cruise was a family get-together of 15 of us. Our kids hadnt been together at the same time in 10 years. What a fabulous trip and great activities for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Anyway - we were in Cove Balcony 2270, which was listed as mid-ship but more forward than we usually do. Our cabin was almost exactly above the shore gangway. What a treat it was to stand on our balcony and wave and talk with our kids who were going ashore. At sea, it was so very pleasant to see the water going by and to hear the sounds of the sea. The only problem I can remember is a "human-based" one -- door slammers. They just didn't seem to be able to go out to the balcony without letting the door SLAM! But that can happen anywhere.

The second cruise, we also had a Cove Balcony but we moved to 2354. That was a great cabin that was just around the corner from the mid elevators. We could very easily get anywhere on the ship with great ease. DH says I liked it only because when you took the elevator up, you could get off right at the casino entrance. Hey - we all have our priorities!

Love cove balconies, so much so that we have booked the Horizon in June for cabin 2356 (next door to where we were on the Vista).

  11. The last PD party that DH and I attended -- we never got in. When we rode the elevator down and the doors opened, you literally couldn't get off because of the mass of people. It was just too much chaos, so we really haven't had an interest in them anymore, nor do we need the Funship Freddy Specials and one hors d'oeuvre. But having read your comments, we may try it again on our next cruise. :D

  12. No matter when this thread was started, I am very thankful that it was re-posted because I have been using a Belkin that has been great but I never knew it was surge protected. We have a family cruise coming up and I bought every cabin the same Belkin. Scrambling now to find ones that will be acceptable. Why go to all the trouble (you may ask)? Because on one of our first cruises, we had a surge protected power strip go up in smoke--we know it can happen!!!!

Special thank you to Chengkp75 -- I appreciate the research and recommendations you contributed.

  13. DogLover, my mouth fell open when you said 120 officers for 9 square miles!!!! Husband was police officer in Rockland, Maine and there were 12 officers for a town of about 5,000 (maybe 6,000). He was with Pinellas County Sheriff's Dept. until we moved to Maine. Ahhhh, it was an interesting life! ;)

Thanks so much for your help; and to BNBR also!

  14. Hi There. My father is handicapped and it has been quite a while since he has cruised. We are getting married on the Pride and the whole fam will be leaving out of Baltimore. Are they accommodating? Do they have have wheel chairs that you know of that he can use till he gets on the boat? Just curious what your experience was like.

We have always found them to be most accommodating, but they have to "know" that you need assistance. I will be the first to admit, I am a wimp!!! Unless I'm hot, hungry, or tired, I usually don't complain or say anything. Our PVP always makes a notation for our embarkation and debarkation ports that wheelchair assistance is required. Sure, on occasion that will not be present, but PVP Marsha has said "Go tell them!!!" And she's right. For the most part they have been there to help us and they are very kind about it.
