  1. Hi, Mike

We've seen that "extra" little dining room used during our Christmas cruise. The ship was packed and they must have needed the extra room. We had a great table alongside one of the big round windows and could look out on the water.

Don't know if it was because of Christmas or because we could look at the water -- but it was GREAT!!!!

Keep those photos coming -- love them!

  2. So envious of you...10 days. We've started the double-digit dance to our January cruise. First time on the Fantasy and I'm looking forward to new sights and getting lost on board (don't ask...I always go the wrong direction, on the wrong deck, to the wrong place!!)

    Have a great cruise!!

  3. I would love to go back on the Legend again and will probably do so in time. We had the best-est time ever and the last one was so very special because it was Christmas.

How you react to the ship depends on your expectations. We're older, we like to have quiet breakfast early in morning, relax in Serenity area, enjoy adult beverage or two...in short, we like to RELAX.

Enjoy your cruise and make of it what you want!!!

  4. Just off the fantasy while at the past guest party the CD announced the the fantasy is going into dry dock to get the 2.0 upgrades does anyone have any info when that will happen the CD said when it would be but I missed it

we're going on Fantasy for last cruise before dry dock, Jan 19-26. Should be interesting to see how things go. My vacation fell in that range, or else I might have waited for her to come out of dry dock!

  5. We always pack a large manila envelope, two pieces of cardboard that fit inside the envelope. That way, if we purchase photos they can be placed in between the cardboard and put in the envelope.

On our first cruise, a really nice photo of ours got bent in the suitcase on the flight home. I could never completely get that crease out. The cardboard and envelope save us from that happening again.

  6. There are several commercial travel agent sites that show military/Veteran discounted cruises. While I can't point you directly to them, the one I use can be found if you GOOGLE To Go Vacationing. If you get to the right site it will show vacations to go on and will list discounts for Military, Teachers, Fire Fighters, etc..

    Go Luck.

I know exactly which site you're talking about and it's a wealth of information. It's very unfortunate but Carnival never lists any military discounts.

Amazing how many veterans you encounter on a cruise!!

  7. Is there anywhere in particular that you can see listings of upcoming military appreciation or veterans cruises? I was looking for something on Carnival, but when I enter the search term at the Carnival site, it comes back with an entry from 2007 (that doesn't work).

  8. Found a technique on the Internet that looked very interesting (dangerous but very interesting). The author suggested that you bet on only two or three numbers or areas and if you win, bet the same amount again....if you lose, double the bet, if you lose again, double the bet, (always betting on the same numbers) when you do win the odds say you will make up the money lost.

Example (where you place your bets is up to you, just keep them the same each time):

    $5 on 00 and black - lose

    $10 on 00 and black - lose

    $20 on 00 and black - lose

$40 on 00 and black - black wins (you should win your money back)

    $5 on 00 and black - win

    $5 on 00 and black - win

I've been playing with this on the computer and I've gone down in my "money" to a scary level, but I must admit that I've been saved at the last minute. Right now I'm up $500.

    Does anybody use this method?

  9. We definitely like the same types of books. I've frustrated because I want to listen to Fern Michaels' trilogies ... Vegas, Texas ... and they're not on Kindle yet! Darn!

I like Maeve Binchy a lot, too, and just bought Scarlet Feather for my Kindle. Have you read it?

I've never been disappointed in any of hers, except maybe one which was a compilation of short stories. That was like eating one pistachio nut -- definitely want MORE.

I enjoy the way the characters remain steady and it's like following someone's whole life. Have read Scarlet Feather but it's been awhile and now you have wanting to start her books again!!! Thank you.

  10. Jim Dale's interpretation is really wonderful. You can determine who's speaking just by the "voice" that he's using. Each voice is unique. It makes listening so much easier.

My other favorite authors are Fern Michaels, Diane Mott Davidson, Maeve Binchey, and some others. They're all female type non-fiction, but I tend to want to just read/listen to light and airy (where I don't have to think). Too much of the day is spent thinking....to relax I go on strike and refuse to think!

Next most favorite thing to do....listening to old time radio on my iPod. Great Gildersleeve, Fibber McGee & Molly, Halls of Ivy, Lux Radio Theatre, and on and on.

  11. Thank you for the welcome. I wander around CruiseCritic a lot, but usually maintain a "low profile." I would hate to come off sounding like the new kid on the block in the midst of true cruising gurus. You all sound like a really great group!

My favorite audiobook???? The Harry Potter series. I love the narrator, who does an excellent job of consistency in the many voices even across the various volumes.

  12. Sometimes being well-educated doesn't solve all problems!! :)

I am very fortunate to be able to download books from NY Public Library. They are downloaded using OverDrive and happily sit in the Media, Overdrive file. My problem is....I want to listen to them on my iPod. I haven't the foggiest idea what I'm doing (hence the lack of education in technical matters). I feel like I should find a teenager to help me out!!!!!

Can anyone recommend a good tutorial on how to make my audio books come out of their happy little home in Overdrive and on to my iPod?

Thank you...thank you...thank you. (30 days until my first cruise, so I have time to play with it)
