  1. An alternative to Glasgow is a visit to Largs just along the coast.

You can pick up a bus (McGills number 901) a short walk from outside the port that will take you on a very scenic drive as the road hugs the coast all the way to Largs.

It's a regular 15 minute service. Recommended as a less frenetic alternative to Glasgow

Largs is a popular coastal resort with fabulous views over the Clyde to Argyll and beyond.

Lunch at Nardini`s restaurant is a must.

There's a Viking museum and the Pencil monument commemorating the Battle of Largs.

Those who are energetic can continue to walk to the marina and , again, have a lovely lunch at Scotts.

There's also a ferry service to Cumbrae  , one of the inner Hebrides, from Largs.

It's a short hop across the water with a frequent service. https://www.calmac.co.uk

Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about cancellations of the Middle East cruise on Azamara Pursuit in October and November2024. So far we have not received one word from the company and would love to hear from them about our bookings.

I suggest you email Azamara. Don't expect a fast response. Most likely, the response you will get is something along the lines of something like ...we are still assessing the situation.

I`m expecting them to cancel following final payment.

Not a good situation when flights, accommodation and parking at airports are already paid for.

Very poor when other lines have cancelled their sailings in the Red Sea area .

It's also unlikely that Azamara will get insurance if they go ahead with the cruise.

We're booked on that cruise and were disappointed to see it in today's email. I'm hoping they cancel it sooner rather than later, as we've got quite a lot of FCC tied up in the booking and suspect we might lose that if we cancel. Not so much of a deposit as we booked on board, so only £125 each.

I'm going to approach our TA and see what they think Azamara might offer.

I emailed Azamara a few weeks ago . They eventually responded requesting me to contact my T.A.  and have them phone Azamara and they would then look into another sail date. I don't know what the conditions would be for that.

Prior to this response from Azamara I had already contacted my T.A. who advised that I hang on , if I could, until final payment date as something may arise in the interim. Perhaps an enhanced F.C.C.??

    I`ll hang  on....

Ok, I admit this is kind of a trivial question, but: is a shoehorn part of the standard amenities in an Azamara veranda cabin? Wondering if I need to bring one from home.

Really? The shower cubicle isn't that small.

We were there a month after Carnival had ended.

I realize that not every cruise will have an Azamazing evening, but I hope that budget issues don't kill these celebrations.

And to the person who posted the video online, thanks!

My pleasure. It was a wonderful night.

We are due to board on the 9th March in Gran Canaria so this a little worrying.

Be grateful for any further updates please

I`m sure this will be reported to the Spanish authorities before the ship arrives in Las Palmas and appropriate action is taken. e.g. deep cleaning, which could delay embarkation for passengers joining in Gran Canaria.

As regards Pursuit in October I fear the easiest decision is to cancel our 18 night Athens to Dubai cruise and the following Dubai R/T and running empty from Athens to Dubai around the Cape to pick up the following itinerary.

There bigger problem is Onward with 200 World cruise passengers onboard expecting a reasonable alternative itinerary.

Agreed. If they were to cancel now I would consider rebooking something else with Azamara.

Leave it too late and I`ll be looking at other alternatives as , most likely, other Azamara cruises round that time could be fully occupied.

My thoughts are that they are leaving the inevitable decisions to as late as possible to retain deposits made and hoping that people will cancel and lose their non refundable deposit.

A case of who will blink first....

In addition, they may be looking at cancellations for those who have nothing to lose up to the final payment date before cancelling .

If enough of this category cancel, surely it's a no go?

I`ve already booked flights for this cruise....It`s a good one that I did in 2022...I`m unsettled..

Can't you use Skype to call the US?  That's what I do when I need to call a vendor in UK or EU – calls end up costing me pennies.

I`ve been using Skype for many years now. It's saved me lots of money and got me out of a few hot spots when my cell phone couldn't get a signal. e.g. Miami Airport

I`ve used it onboard to contact a travel agent with regard to an urgent response to a change of itinerary.

Most recently, I used it to call home from a Far Eastern cruise.

As you say, cost pennies. No expiry date on your initial top up. You only have to make one call every 6 months(?) to remain active.

    Internet only required

@Sthrngary - Hi Gary.  I've been following your trip since your early planning posts.  I enjoy the detail you provide and totally understand your interest in detailed planning.  We are still 127 days out from our Vista cruise in March, but I have been planning since we booked in Dec 2022.

I know you are doing independent tours rather than O excursions.  If you will, please let me know what you did in La Spezia, and if you enjoyed it, share any tour operator you used.  I am still trying to finalize our plans for that port.

    Continue to enjoy your cruise.

    Terrible to miss Florence.

Get yourselves to Cinque Terre if the weather is decent. It's quaint and charming and shouldn't be crowded at this time of year. You can do it on your own; loads of details on the Italy forum here on CC.

We made Florence from La Spezia when Livorno was cancelled. We contacted our excursion company https://www.italytours.eu  by WhatsApp  and they responded by sending the driver to La Spezia to pick us up for our trip.   Their communication was spot on . They phoned me and emailed with rearrangements.

A bit sneaky that Oceania notified guests of the change on the morning of the Civittavechia visit, after travellers to Rome had gone on their trips.

Fortunately, we were staying onboard on the day and found the notification letter by our room on returning from a leisurely breakfast.

    San Pellegríno too?

When we booked all inclusive, our TA got them to sell just me the upgrade to the premium non-alcoholic package for about this price and left the husband with just the classic package. I can’t drink so upgrading both of hasn’t been worth it.  But I could cancel that and upgrade us both for to Premium alcoholic at roughly the same cost, as long as my beloved San Pelligrino is covered 😀

    It is,,

We leave on Saturday on Equinox. Always book Aqua. Hope Blu is as great as it has always been.  Last time we sailed X was January 2920.  Have sailed 4 times on Viking Ocean since then.  They were great. A very different experience than X. As Elite Plus, we have a booking on Azamara,  which will be our second cruise with them, and we are Discovery Plus, so have gotten our Elite Plus perks.

You'll have to try the meat loaf on the Blu menu...........
