I'm so glad for this thread. DH is about to retire, and I've been obsessing over having to live on a reduced income. Since I didn't want to take money from savings thinking we might need it some day, I've been thinking that we can't afford many, if any, more cruises. After seeing this thread, I realized that we still need to cruise. There's no guanantee that we'll have the health and have each other to make memories with. An occasional cruise won't make that much difference to our savings accounts, but the lack of memories would be a big mistake. Thank you!

We went on Carnival Inspiration out of New Orleans for our first cruise. We did a Western Caribbean itinerary - Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We wanted to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and could easily drive to New Orleans. We came back saying we would probably cruise again, but probably not on Carnival. Two years later we cruised to Alaska on Princess and were hooked.

Is there a hotel near the Amtrak station?

A flight excursion has weight limits. If you are wanting to do one of those, you need to ask if this would not be a problem. He might be required to purchase 2 seats if they even will let him go.

We prefer to pick our time so we like anytime dining, freestyle, etc.

Last year in mid-May it never climbed about the mid forties and there was a constant very COLD wind. Take something with a hood to block that out.
