Your title is a bit confusing - sounds like you are asking about travel times between FLL airport and POM, but the title indicates MIA - which is the Miami International Airport.

I suspect that by 10:00 the worst of the rush hour traffic will be gone, but would budget at least 45 minutes for the trip - hopefully one of the locals will respond with some more recent weekday traffic experience.

Thank you, the airport & port are so close to one another the few minutes difference wouldn't be much, but I have changed the title to the Port thank you. And I was hoping for locals who are familiar with work rush hour traffic to hopefully be able to give me some pointers....her in Las Vegas it can last until around 9/10am for morning but afternoon it starts before 3 and lasts til 6. thank you again

  2. Hello,

We usually stay in the port city where we are departing but this year we are considering staying in Ft Lauderdale instead of where the ship departs which is Miami.

We are going to be taking one of Navigator's Mon-Fri 4night cruises, and are wondering how bad traffic will be on Monday morning around 10am, Ft Lauderdale to Miami so we can plan appropriately...is this an hour trip around that time of the morning or should we expect a traffic jam so it will be longer?

Same for the trip back, it would be around 10 or 11am Friday, Miami back to Ft. Lauderdale, thank you!

  3. I have been trying to pay for some items on the Royal Caribbean cruise planner and keep getting a response that the card was not accepted. Credit card company says no issues on their end so I thought I'd check if anyone else is experiencing any issues with payments on that site. I have tried it from my phone and now lap top. Thank you

  4. I have, and Travelocity as well, but I would like some first hand personal accounts from people on this board as well, as I have found other users on this board to be honest and knowledgeable. Doesn't hurt to ask and get as many iPhones and as much information add i can, thank you.

  5. Went to Carambola on our last visit to the island and had a good time  but the food was expensive and not that great for the price. Considering someplace a little more relaxed and less expensive and am considering Vibes. How is the beach and water, looking for sandy beach able to just walk right in without watershoes ...and of course nice beautiful warm water 😁 also i believe i saw caribs were $3 that would be great.  Last thing is must have loungers and umbrellas,  any confirmation of these items, and personal recent feedback would be appreciated,  thank you

  6. Help!!! We always went to Morningstar Beach when we stopped in St. Thomas as we loved that it was relatively close to port. But with it closed now we have no idea where to go. We are nervous about traveling far, and will be on Symphony so docking at Crown port I believe.

Please any help with beach bar with loungers and umbrellas would be a great help thanks!

  7. I’ve only ever cruised one time before and it was on a much smaller ship from Carnival. I was horribly sick for the entire first day. We had very rough seas and many were very sick. Like line around the corner and down the hall for the Dr on board.

I’m booked on Adventure OTS for June 15th. I booked only 6th months out and the agent wasn’t able to book a midship set of rooms for us so instead we are at the front of the ship on Deck 7. Everything I read gives conflicting reports about the best place to be if you can’t be mid ship.

So how concerned should I be? I’ve talked to my Dr and he is ready with an rx but keeps warning me about being sleepy. We saved for too long for this trip for our family to (a) be miserably sick, or (b) sleep it away.

Thank you in advance for any insight.

While everyone is affected differently all I can say is we are going on our 20th cruise and I have never had seasickness. That being said we always cruise when the weather is calm (April/May) but you mentioned you are sailing in June so unless a storm whips up it should be pretty calm. I CANNOT go on smaller vessels, like ferry boats, sightseeing boats and the like, however, as I get sick as a dog...so I just don't do it LOL

Prescriptions do mostly make you drowsy, there is a non-drowsy Bonine I think it is but you need to take it before you board and keep taking it (not certain as I have never had to bother) there are also accupressure bands for your wrist you can buy at Walgreens, CVS and such, in the same area as these motion sickness pills, which may be a good try as well, at least you won't be drowsy.

Try and not think about it, that can stress your system and get you nauseated too LOL Good luck, that first time could have been a fluke as it takes a lot to move these big beautiful ships!:D

  8. M&M closed several years ago.

I believe the building is still for sale.

It was at Church and 24th.

It changed owners; neither could make a go of it.

Our last cruise out of Galveston would have been May 2015 so wouldn't have been too much after that, that they closed, by the looks.

Happy for your list, can't wait to try a few of the places you recommended, much prefer local places over chains anyday, thank you

  9. We have an aft Jr Suite on Liberty, room 7714, coming up, and it doesn't have a pull down bed but the sofa is a sofa bed, and we were able to book for just 2adults. Might be due to the time of year (we will be after spring break but before summer, so way fewer families traveling) or possibly they allow for certain Crown&Anchor level members or higher? I am guessing though it might be time of year - summer or holidays they want to have as many paid people as possible so may require 3 people if there are 3 beds. Sorry about that, it's a bummer when you can't get the room you want

  10. and sorry for saying this Wednesday, it is next Wednesday, the 25th. I am guessing in the next few days we'll hear more...going to be extremely sad if we miss Roatan. I'll be happy to take a tender over if need be, just don't want it cancelled :(

  11. Two of our favorites:

    Tremont Café - 2300 Mechanic

    Star Drug - 510 23rd

    El Jardin Mexican - 413 24th

    El Estacion Mexican - 2420 Ball @ 25th

    Apache Mexican - 511 20th

    All serve breakfast

@Galveston Cruiser - we used to love M&M over on Church I think it was, do you know what happened to the place as it is now closed. Has another restaurant moved in or just closed? Loved their lobster eggs benny and mimosas

  12. Royal Caribbean usually has a "Luggage Valet" service where they will take your bags from the hallway the night before you depart, and get them directly to the airport for you, and you won't see them again until you get to your home airport. There is a fee for this service, around $25/suitcase, but for the convenience of only having to have maybe a small carry-o, or backpack, to worry about, for a few hours while touring, it is extremely convenient. We have done this several times with no problems...no guarantees of course, but we like it.

  13. As I mentioned, all ships to that port have been cancelled at least through the week,

so my visit on Liberty of the Seas slated for this Wednesday will not happen? I have not been notified by Royal Caribbean and actually Roatan is our favorite island so not stopping there will be an extreme let down. No way to share Carnival's pier? I notice only one ship at that pier on the:( 25th so we'd fit LOL

  14. Two of our favorites:

Thank you! Can't wait to try some of these!

  15. I live in Las Vegas, so sailing out of Galveston is closer than sailing out of ports in Florida. I have been on 2 Mexican Riviera cruises out of California, and that is plenty - they are nothing compared to when you can sail the Caribbean!!!! :o:)

We love the City of Galveston, it has charm and we love walking around The Strand, as we stay at The Tremont House Hotel which makes everything close by, including the port. People are friendly and the architecture is amazing, so the city, we find, is a destination to explore in and of itself, at least a day before we board the ship.

That being said, my only wish, if any city officials are reading this (LOL) would be more traffic lanes into/out of the City, from the mainland, as it does get congested and slow on the freeway coming in/out. But does that stop me from sailing out of Galveston, no, not at all. I am actually going to be there in a few weeks to depart on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas, for our 20th cruise, 3rd or 4th one specifically out of Galveston. We fly into Houston (Bush Int'l) and we hire a private car from a limo service, it's not much more than an Uber/Lyft and at least we know the type of car we are going to get, and service, upfront, and off we go.

No port nor city is perfect, they all have flaws and all have some things they are better at...Galveston is just an option and for us, we enjoy it!
