  1. I've done 2 singles hosted cruises this past year.

There are lots of things to take into consideration......do you prefer large or small groups? Certain cruises get a bigger turn out..for example the Halloween cruises get a really big turn out. Now some singles stay away from these because they are not comfortable with a big crowd.

Some hosts are simply more outgoing than others. I was on a cruise last year where one of the hosts didn't do as good a job in my opinion as the others.

When they have function in the nightclub the music is loud to get people up and dancing...otherwise they tend to sit down...and not really get to know one another.

Depending upon how large the group is, really determines whether or not you get to meet all the people. I didnt meet some men until the next to the last day on the cruise.

The singles cruise motto is...its your cruise. You choose to participate in as many activities as you want to.

Some people never have their dinner in the dining room. They choose to eat at the buffet instead for dinner.

Some women aren't interested in chatting with the men who are on the cruise for whatever reason.

Also, some people are shy which sometimes comes across as being aloof. Some women will spend there time with others that they have met on previous cruises, why? Probably because they are insecure.

Some women won't even go on a ships excursion unless they have someone going with them.

I also found some men who always had a buddy with them.

  2. Why doesn't someone take the reigns find something interesting and let's all go on a cruise maybe 1st week in Nov or 2nd week? or 1st week in Dec?

well, its a little late now...but I'm going on a singles hosted cruise the dec. 5th!

  3. ...on a ship that a singles cruise is also booking? Obviously, there would not be the ablility to attend their parties, but wouldn't you still meet the singles at the pool, bar, trivia, etc?

In other words, is it worth the premium to book with the singles cruises?

    Thanks for your help!

the singles cruise company that I booked with last week met the price listed on the ship's web site. I did not have to pay a premium.

  4. I have not been on the hosted singles cruises but I heard that when they say "Over 40" that most of the participants are closer to 60. At 52 you are still young (very young to be widowed-sorry for your loss) so check it out! You likely will have fun. :)

this really irks me! I'm going to be 61...and guess what? Im the rare exception who looks younger than they are. If you saw me out, would you flat out ask me my age? And by that, I mean.....when you're somewhere and you meet an attractive woman, is the first thing out of your mouth..how old are you?

I've seen/met quite a few men and women in their 40's who look IMO bad for their age! I exercise daily for at least 90 minutes.

Sorry to say this, but I believe whats good for the goose is good for the gander. So, I know longer date men my own age, only younger!

  5. Are they allowed on Princess. I have brought an extension cord in the past. I know Royal Caribbean does not allow them.

I have used my power strip on Royal Caribbean, 2 different ships. One out of Barcelona and the other out of San Diego...it was NOT AN ISSUE. In fact, I left it plugged in 24/7.

  6. Basically, not much of a deal at all - unless maybe you'd be booking the highest/most expensive stateroom in that "group" (inside, oceanview, verandah, etc). I can't imagine HAL really wants to be in the roommate business, which may explain why that option isn't particularly attractive from a financial standpoint. If not for financial reasons, why would anyone be interested in doing it? Keeping the cost high will discourage people from following through, yet they can say they offer it ;-)

    Sue/wdw1972

Exactly, it's oceanview, thought I had mentioned it. For the cost, I'll take the room to myself, I've done it before.

  7. There are places that I really want to go to. I don't go on a cruise by what the price might be, even if it's a bargain.

I've traveled solo before and have paid the single person supplement all those times.

I was just curious to see what their 'deal' was.

  8. grrrr....I called today to see what the deal was with HAL'S singles partner's program...they match you up with the same sex roomie.

There's no way online to figure out which cruises have this option, you have to call, and the rep on the phone was pretty clueless too.

Anyway, for an oceanview room.....cat E, it's not available in all the categories, the price was $2810. I asked him how much the same room is if there are 2 occupants, and he told me, $2070.

So, HAL is charging you $800 to find you a roomie. Since you're taking a chance with whom they set you up with. I would rather pay the single person supplement. To me it's not a bargain!

  9. Here's another question for all you seasoned solos? How do you handle the 'looks' from people when you're standing in that long, long, long line to check in? Or even worse if they ask you why you are all by yourself?

The cruise itself wouldn't bother me at all but I have to admit, the standing in line by myself sort of intimidates me. :(

I've cruised solo numerous times...and have been asked if I'm travelling alone.

Being an x-New York/New Jersey woman...I would really like to say...it's none of your business...however..I answer...well, none of my friends have the time nor money and this cruise is on my bucket list of things to do. Do I stay home because of them?

I'm a young senior...and it riles me to no end, that people can now say whatever is on their tiny little mind and (think) they can get away with it.

  10. book your cruise directly with the cruise company!

I really want to go on a cruise this year in 2014, but don't have anyone to go with. So my questions are this:

How did you make that first step in going solo?

Are you tired of waiting for others to join you, make a decision about going on vacation? I was....and bit the bullet!

Did you have fears of never leaving your cabin/room?

There is so much to do on the cruise...there are lots of activities ALL DAY LONG! They don't want you in your cabin.

    Where did you cruise to?

I flew all the way to Barcelona for a cruise out of the Mediterranean. I also took a cruise out of San Diego.

What ships cater or like having solo travelers?

Pick what ship you want to sail on based on the port they are sailing out of, and the itinerary. Ships want/like all travelers.

At ports did you stay on the ship or adventure off?

What is the point of going some place far away IF you are going to stay on the ship? Book excursions with the cruise line. They will make sure that you are pack to the ship on time.

How did you pick your excursions?

I picked things that I was interested in. I wanted to see the Coliseum, the ruins of Pompeii, tequila making in Mexico...you look thru the list of excursions and see what interests YOU!

How long was your first solo cruise?

Both cruises were for 7 days.

Dinner, I don't even want to go there. That is #1 fear. Eating by yourself in a packed restaurant EEKKK! Help needed on this one.

Trust me.....no one is interested in what YOU ARE doing. And if they are...they are a busy body and gossip. When you walk to your table....how does ANYONE know that you are not meeting your guests at the table?

Any helpful advice is appreciated. I am shy female not young, not old either. I really want to cruise to the Eastern Caribbean, not Bahamas I've been there. Any tips on a good first solo cruise?

A good tip is look at the itinerary...and decide from there...just do it!

  11. first off....you made the right decision in that......you got tired of waiting for your friends!! I even had a friend.....who made me fly into Miami instead of Tampa...where the ship was sailing from....who decided 1 week ahead of time that she didn't want to go.....I told her flat out that she was going...I made it easier for her by flying in and out of Miami instead of Tampa.

I did a solo cruise also for a birthday. I did the Mediterranean but on RCI.

So about the beds....if the beds are separated when you get to your room....they will simply push the beds together...no big deal. I also ask for the egg crate foam thing to be put on top of the mattress. Just ask and it will be done.

I preferred to book my excursions thru the cruise line. Why? Because I was alone and I wanted to make sure that I was back to the ship ON TIME.

I was seated at a table with other people. Since this cruise was out of

Europe there were many people from other countries at my table. On a few nights when I didn't feel like talking, I ate at the buffet.

I went to one of the singles mingles meetings...but only 3 other women showed up...and they were very quiet.

There is so much to do on board that you won't be spending any time in your room. There is always something going on!

    Enjoy yourself and don't worry!

  12. I'm cruising with a group in October to New England/Canada. Our group is small so we are using a t/a. I prefer dealing directly with RCI.

It took the agent we did have......3 days to email me my invoice. I called the Office Manager today, and asked why it took so long.

Sure enough...my OBC is not on my invoice.

I sent an email this afternoon to the new agent handling our group...and of course she hasn't gotten back to me.

She had nothing but excuses when she called me earlier today about sending me my invoice.

  13. I just booked a single on the Enchantment of the Seas for its Halloween Cruise on 10/31/09, inside guarentee, 5 days , for $297 total. This is only a few dollars more than the double occupancy rate. You just have to stay on top of the rates when they get within 30 days and you can find these bargains. By the way, if you want to have some real fun , you have to try a Halloween Cruise. I have done about 5 of them and they are a blast. You bet your dupa !!! :D

Thats great for you because you live near the port. For those of us on the other side of the coast, the airfares are usually much higher when you book so near the cruise.

    Enjoy!!

What's your costume going to be?

  14. I got a good senior single rate for an aft balcony of $977...with my $200 loyalty discount my total for 7 days is $777 (with those numbers maybe I should spend more time in the casino)!

This is my first time going solo but I have always wanted to give it a try. I live in the Dallas area so going out of Galveston also saves me air fare.

I am nervous....but I will never know unless I go solo at least once.

    Wish me luck.

I went solo for the first time a few weeks ago and had a great time. It's really up to you whether or not you enjoy yourself.

I met another solo female traveler on one of the shore excursions. I asked her why she didn't go to the singles get togethers and she said she couldn't be bothered. Oh well. lol

I did go to a singles meet up for lunch but one of the woman made an antisemetic remark and I didn't want to have lunch with her.

I did enjoy myself on the Voyager of the Seas. I decided when I wanted to go to a show, when I wanted to eat breakfast, lunch etc and where I wanted to dine.

    Enjoy!!1
