  1. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the cabins B754, 756 or 757 BB cat on the Caribbean Princess (Baja level)? I've looked on other threads and I was wondering if anyone had any pictures or comments about these cabins. I contacted Princess today and asked them if there was a beam in these cabins and she stated no. I know people have had comments about vents but does anyone have anything on these rooms. I'm also not sure what the gap is between B757 and B756. I appreciate everything!
Post 25 on this thread has a photo of the aft of the CB.

You can see the vent between B756 an B757. No beam in those cabins or B753 and B754.

  2. Thanks so much for your post...we usually go in mini's but thought that the deluxe might be nice...20 ft. does not seem like much!

But either way, they are new and it will be fun!

We are trying out a Deluxe Balcony next year because of the sofa. We enjoy having one when we are in mini-suites but never use the tub. For the $80-$100 premium over a similarly located balcony it might be worth it.
  3. The standard Royal Princess cabin sizes including balcony are 222 sq ft for balcony cabins, 233 sq ft for deluxe balcony cabins and 299 sq ft for mini-suite cabins. Since almost all cabins have the same balcony size, the deluxe balcony cabins are 11 sq ft larger than balcony cabins and the mini-suite cabins are 66 sq ft larger than the deluxe balcony cabins.
There is a slight error in my post above. The smallest balcony cabins are only 214 sq ft so 19 sq foot more for deluxe balcony or about two feet longer.
  4. Hi all,

Does anyone know how much bigger a mini-suite is versus a deluxe balcony on the new Royal Princess?

    Thanks all!

  5. The ultimate sticker will include hot chocolate.

You can have it made with water or with milk.

Marshmallows can be put on top.

Some people have reported in the past that on glacier days there is a person hading out hot chocolate on the main viewing deck.

As I remember, there was free hot chocolate on deck during the Glacier Bay viewing but there were also fortified hot drinks for sale. Also, if my memory isn't failing me, I thought there were instant hot chocolate packets in the HC but you would only have hot water available to make it with. Maybe others can confirm/refute my memory.

  6. Thanks Pam! Does anyone know what fountain sodas, juices, mocktails and shakes cost on an individual basis? TIA

    Paula

Prices are increasing every year, but last year sodas (12 oz. can) were $1.95 ($2.24 w/gratuity) and mocktails were $4.00 ($4.60 w/gratuity). The breakeven point for the packages is about two drinks/day. If you drink more than two sodas a day the package would probably be best for you.
  7. Is there a water bottle package (I remember Disney had this)? Or should I just bring my Brita bottle and refill it somewhere before heading onto shore?
No water bottle package on Princess. You can fill your bottle from your sink in the bathroom or there are water dispensers in the Horizon Court. To prevent the potential for cross contamination from your bottle, suggest that you fill up a clean glass and fill you bottle from the glass. At times, when Noro starts to rise?, I have seen signs on the water dispenser stating that only crew are allowed to fill water bottles from the dispensers.
  8. They do for non-alcoholic drinks.

Soda sticker is about $4.25 plus 15% tip per day. Includes unlimited fountain sodas, but not room service or cans.

Ultimate sticker is aBOUT $8 Plus 15% tip per day. Includes sodas above, plus smoothies, virgin drinks.

At least last year the Soda only package was $4.50/person/day or $5.18 with gratuity while the Ultimate package was $7.00/person/day or $8.05 with gratuity.

  9. On April 23 Princess introduced a more restrictive smoking policy for cigar and pipe smokers. On Crown class ships smoking of cigars and pipes is confined to the Cigar Bars only; there is NO outdoor venue for those smokers. It is really a farce for Princess to claim that the ships are virtually smoke free when cigarette smoking is allowed in the casino which is a public space. On our recent transatlantic on the Emerald Princess, the cigarette smoke from the casino was not only unbearable but disgusting. While one could argue that you can avoid that area it is not so if you are at the Passenger Service Desk; Captains's Circle desk or anywhere else at that level other than those Princess employees BEHIND the Passenger's service desk. Cruisers on scooters wanting to cut through on deck six to the Princess theater (using the ramp provided) have to pass through the Casino to get to the theater. The smoking policy as of January has moved cigarette smokers to the Casino. The updated more restrictive policy for cigar and pipe smokers has eliminated all outdoor venues for them. The reality is there is no place for them to smoke without cigarette smokers who are also permitted to smoke in the Cigar Bars.
The policy regarding cigar and pipe smokers is not new but was part of the old (Pre January 2012) Smoking Policy. This is the notice from our October 2009 cruise in the Golden Princess in the Patter that stated:

"For those passengers who would like to enjoy a cigar or pipe, Players cigar lounge is located on deck 6. Smoking cigars or pipes outside of this lounge is not permitted."

Princess enforced this policy, at least on the Sapphire last year. We had a cigar smoker on the aft balcony next to ours and notified the Passenger Services Desk. The next morning they called our cabin to verify that the cigar smoking had stopped. Several times later in the cruise when we stopped by the Passenger Services Deck, the individual I had talked to the first day addressed my by my name and asked if there were any further problems.

With regard to the Casino, they have always smelled strongly of smoke and we avoided walking through them whenever possible. I can't speak of the Crown and her sisters but this was true of the older Grand class ships including the Grand, Golden, Star and Sapphire. Princess appears to have done it right on the Coral/Island. The walkway past the Casino on Fiesta deck is on the side and we have never been bothered by smoke smell there.

  10. We had a problem with a cigar smoker on the adjacent balcony on our last cruise. Even with the old policy cigars were not allowed on balconies. I reported the problem to the Purser's Desk and it was addressed that day. I had a followup call the next day and was asked several times later in the cruise when I stopped by the Pursers Desk. They still smoked cigarettes but no more cigars on the balcony. At least on the Sapphire they enforced the old policy and I assume they will enforce the new policy as well.

  11. What I would like to see on this thread is objective experiences on Princess ships after the implementation of the new policy.

I don't like cigarette, or especially cigar, smoke but I knew what to expect with the old policy.

    1. If I forgot and walked out of the port side of the HC I would just move over to the starboard side or walk through that area of the Lido deck quickly because smoke was usually quite bad near the tables by the windows.
    2. I never walked through the Casino because the smoke was always bad.
    3. I did not walk past the Cigar Bar on the smaller Grand class ships because the doors were always open and the smoke was bad in the corridor.
    4. Smoking was allowed at tables and loungers by the Outriggers Bar near the Terrace Pool but it was not an issue for us on the starboard side.
    5. We never had significant issues with smoke on the port side of the Promenade and Sun decks.
    6. We didn't have problems with smokers near our balcony until our last cruise (10th on Princess) when we had a cigar smoker next door to our true aft cabin (this was not allowed under the old policy and was address by the Purser's staff). There was also a cigar smoker in a balcony cabin down the hallway because the smoke smell outside of the cabin was overpowering.

I doubt conditions 1-3 have changed but I would like to know the following:

    1. How are conditions by the Terrace Pool area? Are there more smokers there and more issues with smoke?
    2. Are there more smokers on the port side of the Sun and especially Promenade decks and more of an issue with smoke?
    3. Are the port side Emerald deck mini-suites impacted by smokers on the Promenade deck below?
    4. Is Princess strictly enforcing the non-smoking policy on balconies and in rooms?

I can and will co-exist with the smokers but would like to have the current objective facts.

  12. As I always say "I don't mind if you smoke as long as you don't exhale!"

Seriously, on prior cruises I have been aware of smoking being allowed on at least some areas on the port side of most open decks, in the Casino and the Cigar lounge. Wasn't aware of Skywalkers but we haven't gone there in the evening when the DJ is there. Never remember smokers there during the daytime when I have gone up there for the view. As a non smoker, I just go to starboard side and avoid those areas if the smoke is too bad. I also avoid the Casino and the cigar bar. Even before the new policy, on the Grand class ships the doors were always open and you could not avoid the smell in the hallway going to the Princess Lounge. Rude comments should not be made to those smoking in the designated areas.

Based on comments in this thread, the biggest impact appears to be on the Promenade deck. I never noticed many smokers there on our ten prior cruises but it may be more popular now. Beside possible noise from the show lounge on the port side, that is just one more reason to book a starboard side AD Emerald deck mini-suite if they are available on a future cruise where we decide to book a mini. Otherwise, it appears that the new policy will not significantly impact this non-smoker.

  13. I don't understand. I just looked at the deck plans for the Sapphire and Star. Star doesn't show any balconies. But on the Sapphire - I'm confused - how does the opening face forward when the cabin is on the aft?

And can people at the pool walk to the back rail and look over at you?

I need to go check out these cabins before we leave the ship sometime - would love to do a B2B so we could walk around and look.

A746 on the Star WAS an aft facing ocean view cabin with porthole windows without much of a view. It appears that a new balcony cabin was added on the port side, not aft, and designated as A746. The original aft ocean view cabin was apparent designated as A750.

The aft balconies on the Sapphire and the Diamond are different than the Ruby Riviera deck balconies added during a prior drydock. They are most like the aft side Emerald deck balconies on the Coral/Island which we have had or probably the Sun class balconies. Their balcony opening is the hull of the ship. The hull is angled so the A746 balcony varied from 6 to 9 feet deep and was almost 10 feet wide. We were not in the adjacent cabin A744 but with the hull angle the balcony might vary from 6 to 3 feet deep. I checked it out and the balconies are not visible from the Lido or Sun decks. We had a great view of a pod of as many as 100 dolphins playing in the wake for 15 minutes or more. It wad also fascinating watching the Golden Gate bridge pass by fairly close as we left San Francisco.

  14. We cruised in 2009 in cabin A749 which was one of the port hole cabins. Aside from the port hole (which we hated- to high and not clear enough to se out), the cabin itself had a big problem with noise from the door to the aft pool area. The traffic going in and out of that door never stopped day and night. It is sort of hard to explain but when people went in or out, they let the door slam shut, plus when the wind was right, it would grab the door from people and one didn't have time to close it quietly. We even tried to close it quietly ouselves and couldn't. It was really disturbing whenever we were in the cabin. We actually chose it because of the convenience to the aft pool which we used a lot.

Personally I would not ever choose a cabin in that area again.

I will put in my two cents about the general location. We had A746 on the Sapphire. On the Sapphire and Diamond these rooms have balconies. A746 is the closest cabin to the door to the Terrace Pool area and we had no problem with the door slamming noise. Maybe the door closer was better adjusted but we had no noise problem. We love the terrace pool area and being just a few steps from that area was great. In addition the Horizon Court is just one deck above. We would get food and bring it back to our balcony to enjoy. Each has their own opinion but we thoroughly enjoyed the location.
  15. Looking at this cabin for an Alaska trip later this summer. We've done balconies on the Caribe deck on previous trips but considering A746 this time around. Looking for a review on this room since the balcony layout shown on the deck plan on Princess' site doesn't seem to match pictures, descriptions or deck plans on other sites. Has this cabin been added and numbers re-issued? Anyone cruised in this cabin and if so, would you do it again? Looks like it has a one-of-a-kind balcony. I've done a search on this site as well but it appears this cabin number used to be in a different place. Even have my glasses on!
Interesting. It does appear that this cabin has been added to the Star. A quick check of deck plans on other ships does not show a cabin in this location on Aloha deck. It should be a similar balcony to those of B744/B745. Those balconies are larger and fully covered. The balcony opening faces forward and a portion may be windy when the ship is underway. A746 used to be one of the aft pothole ocean view cabins. The old A746 is now apparently A750. Hopefully someone who sails in this cabin is the future will post exact details.
  16. Are there any outdoor designated cigar smoking areas?
The ONLY area designated for cigar smoking on Princess ships is the Cigar Bar/Room. Even when smoking was allowed in cabins and on Balconies that did not include cigars. However, there have been several posts about an experiment with "Cigars Under The Stars", a designated area on the port side of the Sun deck near the bar above the Neptune Pool. Don't know the long term future of CUTS.

  17. I know that the Terrace Pool is for adults, the question I have is, can you smoke by the bar by the pool?
We can only comment on the Grand, Golden, Star and Sapphire and there may have been changes since January 15th but I doubt it. Depending upon the ship there are lounge chairs or tables in the Horizon Terrace area and smoking is permitted on the port side of that area. Smoking is also permitted on the port side of the Sun and Sports decks above. People were also allowed to smoke on the lounge chairs next to the Terrace Pool on the port side on the Sapphire in September.
  18. Can anyone give me an info on the Sapphire Princess VS Suite E733? I hear there is an "obstructed view" but can't determine what the "obstruction" is. Also... are those suites noisy ... due to being directly above an entertainment deck? It's hard to believe they would put a premium suite in a noisy location... but I've had some poorly located suites before. Is there engine noise? Do you feel the ship "rocking" much more than you would at midship? Never been in an aft cabin... but it seems like an experience! E733 on the Sapphire is what we have available to us at the moment. Thanks for any help!
There is a beam that is visible on the left side of the photo. Within the last year or so Princess added this comment about obstruction to the aft cabins affected by the beams. The beams are part of the Princess design and I believe every aft suite is impacted by one as well as many of the balconies. That was one of the reasons this thread was created.

We had friends who were upgraded from an AD Guarantee to E733. They enjoyed the suite but the wake noise was loud which made it had to enjoy the balcony when they were underway. That was only their experience. We have had balcony A746 four decks up and there the wake noise was just calming. You will experience thruster noise when docking which might wake you up in the morning of early ports.

  19. Bus #30: It's about 10 minutes' walk from the main cruise pier to Nationaltheatret. From there, the bus ride to the Folk Museum & Viking Ships is about 13 minutes, and to the Kon-Tiki & Fram is about 17 minutes. The first bus is around 6 am. From 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, the bus runs every 10 minutes, and outside of those hours, it runs every 20-30 minutes (until midnight).

(The bus schedule can be found here.)

Ferry #91: It's about 5 minutes' walk to the ferry pier. The ferry ride to Dronningen is 15 minutes with another 8 minutes' walk to the Viking Ships. If you head straight to Bygdøynes, it's 20 minutes, and the ferry pier is right next to the Fram & Kon-Tiki museums. The first ferry is at 8:45 and runs every 30 minutes. During the summer (until the end of August), it runs on a 20-minute schedule from 11 am until 5:45 pm.

(The ferry schedule can be found here.)

Thank you once again. It looks like we will go there by #30 bus because we want to be at the Viking Ship Museum when it opens at 9:00.
  20. You could always do the bus one way & the ferry the other ;)

    Enjoy

We are considering that but only if we can make it to the Viking Ship Museum by 9:00. We will need to leave about 12:30-12:45 to safely make it back to the ship and I just need to know the time it takes to get to the Viking Ship Museum from the port area. It appears that the ferry starts at 8:45 in the morning.
