with so many unknown factors ,we have come to the conclusion to regroup our resources and plan on next year starting in Jan 2021 ...why go thru the stress of schedule, cancel, reschedule, cancel again for the next few months

I am totally with you and will doing my FCC for after 2021, not booking any cruises for 2020, however, if there is a cure this year I will seek some other form of vacation other than cruising.

I'm sure there are a lot of logistics to deal with.  Legend cruises are not available until 11/15/20, so all Europe cruises will probably be cancelled.  Radiance sailings are gone until 11/8/2020.  Mardi Gras not available until 3/27/21.  I haven't checked everything so there are probably more.  Will Carnival ships be deployed as floating medical centers?  If so, for how long?  Still lots of unanswered questions that Carnival has to work on.  Wish Monday would get here soon.

    Yes me too

We received the OBC email for our May 16th cruise. Is there a difference how Carnival refunds your money if they cancel the cruise? Would we get a full refund if they cancel? I know if I cancel before the March 31st deadline I will receive FCC. I want my money back instead of FCC. Thanks

    This is from Carnival website:

    • All ships sailings March 13 - April 9
    • Carnival Spirit April 10 and April 20
    • Carnival Radiance April 29, May 9, May 21, May 30, June 11

We truly value our guests and appreciate your patience and understanding. To that end, we want to provide flexibility as you think about your future plans. Below are two options for guests whose cruise has been canceled to consider, including a bonus value offer. We look forward to welcoming you on board, when the time is right for you.

Carnival will honor this offer for any guests who were previously booked on these voyages and canceled their booking on or after March 6, 2020.

If you are booked on one of these sailings, please make your selection here  there is no need to call.

Regardless of the option you select, your taxes, fees and port expenses, Carnival Vacation Protection, pre-paid gratuities, pre-purchased Carnival shore excursions, beverage and Wi-Fi packages, and Fun Shop purchases will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment.

If you purchased your own flights for getting to your cruise, we encourage you to contact your airline or travel agent about your options as the airlines are being flexible with change fees.

How are you keeping your carnival spirits up? I rebooked a carnival cruise for fall and my wife really perked up. I didnt realize how important that was for her. Hope you are keeping positive ideas.

My cruise is scheduled for May 9 so I am still hopeful it will go but also very happy their are some good options should Carnival decide to cancel our booking, I have already looked at what I will be rebooking and that keeps me in a very happy place through all of this.

Wonder how you are meant to let them know you want a refund? Can't get through by phone and no one responding to social media. I cancelled mine on Tuesday and just want an email confirming it to claim on insurance (which WILL cover me). Can't even get that! I understand they are swamped, but I would think an email would be an automatic thing....

On their website it says you do not need to call them, there is a form

My vacation is very important to me, not at the risk of others, but it is a very important.  I do believe we all need to take precautions and be vigilant, but I do think it is getting very blown out of proportion.  I know many may disagree with me, but it is my opinion.  Only 3 ships to date have been quarantined out of how many that sail each and every day.

    Thank you

You wouldn't get the fees as part of the FCC, they go back to your original form of payment. If the cruise you're booking is less (cruise fare) than what you paid/have in FCC the difference will be put on as OBC up to $500 per cabin I believe.

You are correct as per the letter but anything over that $500 would be lost

For the record, I was on that cruise and we debarked at Port Everglades this morning on time and without issue.

Early in the cruise I was in the Lido deck men's room and a guy walked out of a stall, a stall mind you, not a urinal which would have been bad enough, and walks straight out the door without a thought of washing his hands! What are people thinking?

Yep happens in the ladies room as well. People are just plain nasty and we have to suffer for it.

Are you with the Mr. Smooth Cruise on May 9th?  Looking forward to a wonderful time.....

No I'm not but they sound like fun and like yourself I am looking forward to having a wonderful time as well.  Just got a call last night from one of my couples who are looking to cancel, it's a shame but to each his/her own, I need this vacation.

I agree with the over hype but the issue is that Princess ships are in the media whether the virus was transmitted from land, air or sea. As usual the cruise industry is being targeted.

This is so true and it's crazy. We are sailing May 9 and I just got a call from one of my people wanting to cancel, not a problem for me because I will not have to deal with their paranoia, however, I agree that the cruise industry is being targeted right now and it's so sad.

Noticed lots of white shirt crew all over public areas this morning. Lido buffet now being served by crew only, including silverware and plates. Must have had to scrounge up extra crew because one guy was naming all the food on the buffet line to a group of crew so they would know what to serve when asked. I'll keep my eye open for other changes..

That's good and a shame it's necessary but you can not depend on people to WASH their hands which is something I will never understand and why when possible I don't eat at the buffet. All of that aside, I honestly hope you guys get to enjoy your cruise, we are on this itinerary on May 9.

The local government is concerned about ANY illness.  I suppose in this climate of caution, that's understandable.  but...did you feel that way before this?  Did you feel that any staff with a cold should have to go home for at least a cruise length?  If what I've read in the news article is accurate, this is just another example of an island being overly cautious..which is understandable.  You taking it to the extreme of thinking "there's something on this ship!" is just feeding into that.

    Thank you, very nicely put.

Nessa55, don't beat yourself up about your euro purchase.  In 2014 we went on Med Cruise and we had an ATM machine eat a debit card and euros were about $1.34 ea. I believe whether you purchase euros before you leave home or wait til you arrive in europe is a matter of personal choice.  Do whatever is comfortable for you.  And contact BOA about returning leftover euros. Have a wonderful time in Barcelona!

Thank you so much. I love the cruise critic family, you guys are such a good support and a load of information so keep posting.

That is an outrageous fee they charged you.  The best use for your leftover euros is to save them for your next trip.  The foreign exchange shops at airports do give you a poor rate of exchange.  So, spend them as much as you can and save some (100+ euros) for the next trip.  Then use ATMs to get a decent exchange rate while in Europe.  If you are not planning to ever return to Europe, spend them and enjoy them while there.  Look at Hlitners' post above.

Live and learn, I will probably not be returning to Europe so I guess I will be spending everything before my return. Thanks for your response, I thought it was outrageous but was not sure.

  15. I just got my euros from BOA this week and I was very upset with the rate, 630 euros cost me 730 dollars. Also does anyone know if there is an exchange at the airport in case I want to change my euros over before I leave Barcelona and also on the ship do they pay you at the end of the cruise in euros or dollars?

  16. I submitted my status match and it took 1 week and I only knew this because I called but while she was on the phone she took care of my roommates and I had only submitted hers the night before the call so we are now both matched. Called my travel agent and he was able to get me the 5% refunded to my card. I am really happy about this part of my experience so far with MSC as this is my first time cruising with them. Leaving on October 2 from Barcelona on Orchestra super happy and a little scared at the same time. I have never flown out of the country for a cruise and have only flown as far as Mexico so a lot of first going on here. But, back to the topic, thank you for the status match information on here.

Thank you all for your information and advice.  No better place for obtaining information based on experience.

You are correct and as I was reading your question, my answers (I use a rollaider when traveling) were pretty much answered by other posters. When I go into the dining room, I am able to walk so I park it wherever the dining room staff tell me to park it. Like your spouse, my issue is not being able to stand or walk for long periods of time so I always travel with my rollaider which you might want to look into as opposed to renting a scooter or wheelchair. I don't have to book a handicapped cabin as it does not take up much space and can fold if need be although I have never had to fold mine out of the way. In the theater as stated, there are areas for handicapped users, I don't do the pool but when walking thru, you can plant it out of the way so you need not worry about this being an issue in any of the venues.

  18. Thanks for this thread, am booking when my TA returns on Monday from vacation and am not sure if any of this will apply to me or my booking but I am thankful for the information. I am a government employee so I am hopeful that I will get an additional discount on my chosen sailing. If I don't get the discount for whatever reason, I am still thankful for everyone who post their experiences on this site so that some others may benefit.
