The actual engineroom will be between D1904, D1891 to E1922,E1911. But the auxillary equipment machinery spaces with the generators and propeller shafts will be aft of there. If you find a side view photo, the engines will be below the funnel on top. The four main engines power two generators that then drive the two propellers. There are two thrusters in the bow and two in the stern to move sideways to assist in docking. The thrusters are usually activated early in the day/morning when arriving at a port. That is when most passengers complain about the noise/vibration.

    Thx so much!

You likely will feel some vibrations.  Go to Halfacts.com and see if anyone has commented on your proposed cabin.  Also on a famous, must be unnamed, travel website in their cruise forum there is a woman named fannish who is a wiz concerning good and bad cabins on that ship.  Do a search “Volendam cabin” on that cruise forum   Also @RuthC on this forum is a bit of an expert on such matters.

    Thx so much!

Haven't sailed on the ship, but it isn't too challenging to figure out.

Pax cabins must be above the uppermost continuous deck, which is above the waterline. Engines, the ship will have multiple medium speed diesels, probably 4 of them. Due to stability requirements, these are placed within the ship as low as possible, usually on the tanktop, or just above the double bottoms.

Since the ship is probably diesel/electric, she does not require shafting from the engine to the tailshaft, so the engines can be installed further fwd.

Therefore, no the ships engines will not be in the vicinity of Dk 1 Aft cabins. However, depending upon the ships speed, aft cabins can be susceptible to prop vibration and/or cavitation, and aft thruster noise/vibration.

    Thank you!

Took a bit to respond - that work thing got in the way of my posting.

I've been to a few of the locations you've mentioned. Thankfully Vegas was ever only a pit stop on a trip to national parks. I've never gone to Vegas just to be in Vegas. I haven't been to Fremont St. or to those museums. I'm not really a fan of kitschy. I didn't even enjoy Wall Drug in South Dakota!

But, your post is spot on! One can, and should, find those things that seem enticing and seek them out. Vegas ain't for everyone, just as Santiago ain't for everyone.

    Thanks DON!

I agree with you about Wall Drug and a prior poster about Crazy Horse Memorial. I wasn't disappointed because they weren't on my must see list.  I wouldn't necessarily recommend.

so much this. they rope off areas you have to get to. They roped off the medical bay during open hours because it was a port day and thought it was better passengers who are getting off for the day don't walk the one flight of stairs by mistake instead of me who is having my first asthma attack in almost 50 years find the medical bay. I was on a b2b and had to fight my way to the restaurant that was my holding area. Everyone including crew were yelling at me for cutting in line and going through barriers but i had to do it to get where i was told to sit and wait. Passengers staying on the ship shouldn't wait in the same areas used by the passengers leaving the ship.

Sounds like a mess. Did you get to medical? They are open so few hours. Heaven forbid you need them at any other time.  I hope you are feeling better.

Thank you for taking the time to answer all of our questions.  How was the embarkation in Brooklyn?  I have read that the disembarkation in Brooklyn can be chaotic if you are looking for private taxis or Uber.

Disembarkation was definitely chaotic. They ran more than an hour late just calling numbers to disembark. Went to our meeting place in the Carousel Lounge. Had to snake thru what seemed like the entire ship and down 2 flights of stairs. Once outside, getting an uber/lyft was crazy (lyft was cheaper). The line of cars to get to the pick up area was horribly backed up. Took a good half hour for our car to come. 2 cars cancelled before someone came.  We got to Penn Station just before 1p. I hope nobody had early flights.

Quick question. How was the dress code enforced on non gala nights? Were they strict about wearing long pants every night?

    TIA

Only dress code is no shorts etc. It even said in the planner that jeans and a nice shirt was good for gala night. Very different from when I started cruising.
