    Why is this over reaching?

There are definitely Minors who are mature enough, responsible enough, etc… to go solo from point A to Point B. It does depend on the situation for sure. Why is it overreaching?  Because there are oodles of kids out and about on Carnival ships. Seen plenty. Every cruise, every line, etc… Many teens are responsible enough to navigate solo. They do not enforce this ‘policy’ at all.
It seems like a hopeful suggestion on Carnivals part. LOL

The cruise ship has basically bedroom doors one after another and lots of them. It would only take one strong arm to reach out and pull a kid into the room. It’s a risk we personally would not take. Doubtful something could happen, but why take the chance?  No thanks. No hallways at 8.

Yes, Age is a big factor too. We board the Magic Sunday with 5 adult kids and 3 GBabys. These GB’s are 8 yr old twins, and a 7 yr old. The twins 1st cruise and the 7 yr olds 3rd.
They are in the same Camp Ocean group which is fabulous. They will not be unaccompanied on the ship at any time. Can they go grab a cookie or swirls while in our eyesight?  Go down the water slide? Of course!  Someone will be keeping an eye on them. The 8 yr olds were latchkey this year for the 1st time. They did just fine and are very well behaved kids.

    No, it is not.

I mean - the legal age to leave a child home alone completely unsupervised:

        14 years: Illinois
        12 years: Delaware and Colorado
        11 years: Michigan
10 years: Washington, Tennessee, Oregon, and New Mexico
        9 years: North Dakota
8 years: North Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia
        6 years: Kansas
No age limit: the remaining 37 states

Home alone is a totally different scenario than letting a child wander on the streets or around a cruise ship. Yes, children need to develop independence skills, etc… but not on a cruise ship. 🤦‍♀️

  3. Not sure where these stats are coming from!

Why would anybody risk their child’s well being or innocence?

    https://childwatch.org/statistics/

From Child Watch of North America :

An estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each year – more than 2,000 children every day. An estimated 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized before age 18. Yet, only 1 in 3 will tell anyone.

—-It’s not 1967 when I was 5 yrs old and walked to school and around the 6 block radius around my home.  I actually knew who lived in every house. I have no idea who most of my neighbors are now.

  4. We look at it as a good size floating city. We personally would not allow any unaccompanied moving around on the ship for an 8 yr old. There are 3,500 to-7,000 people on these ships. Most are strangers.  Either kids club or with us or other adult in our group. They go to Camp Ocean the 1st night and make friends quickly that way. Most kids love Camp Ocean. YMMV

  5. Heinz only in this house ….  I once accidentally bought the sugar free Heinz, it was awful. That was at least 10 yrs ago, so maybe they’ve changed the recipe to something more palatable. If eating out and need ketchup we will grudgingly use what they have. LOL

  6. I’ll finally turn platinum this year. Sounds like it is dwindling down to a big fat raspberry.
Whatever, we’ve spent many, many thousands of dollars with Carnival in the past 14 years, we usually sail in Suites, drink, gamble, etc…  The message is pretty clear, they really don’t care if they have loyal passengers or not.  If they did they would show it, but umm…nada so much.
Business is booming, yay!  Seriously!  Their “loyalty” program is a crock of bull dung. Period.

  7. We sailed Alaska in July, it snizzled or rained 98% of the time.
We cruised Alaska in August last year, we had amazing weather 98% of the time.
You never know what you’ll get for weather. We’re going August again this year and hoping we get fantastic weather again, but know it’s unlikely.
‘We had no mosquito issues either time but we’re not hikers either.

  8. It’s great to hear you asking for comments  That makes me think they won’t be the hall running, elevator button pushing, screaming & littering kids. Honestly, as far as your daughter, people thought I was 20 when I was 12 so I know what that’s like. Considering that a cruise ship is basically a floating city, she should be extremely careful about who she’s with & where.
Maybe make sure she’s not alone. Meet friends in public places, pick her up in a public place if need be. It’s a different ‘game’ with her for sure. Hopefully, you have discussed her situation thoroughly with her.  Being informed will be her best defense.

  9. My upper Midwest state gov’t is toying with this law currently. Meh, they should be spending their time on important issues, there are many, many of them they need to address.

Sounds OK, as long as we get a breakdown because the port fees vary widely.
Of current greater importance would be to know breakdown so it’s not an excuse to tack on another fare increase for themselves.  All the cutbacks alone is making them a fortune.

They have watered down the product more than enough IMHO.
No, we obviously don’t have stock in Carnival Corp.  lol

  10. Yes, they need to make money.  Blah, blah, blah…

But $14.95 + 18% fee for 12 small bottles of water is absolutely price gouging.
And greed at its finest.  Not impressed a bit. It’s ridiculous.  $17.64 is robbery.
They might pay $1.00 / 12 pk, if that much.
They have a captive audience of their making, after then saying it would be reasonable.
And yes, cheerleaders, I know it’s our decision whether or not purchase this product.
And we will. Not happily though. Another scratch on the hull for Carnival.

  11. People who remove gratuities cost everyone.
They will keep raising the price but it’s going to be sooner to make up for the cheapskates.

Considering what a travel bargain cruising is, it’s so wrong, dumb, cheap, selfish to remove them.
