I’m sure some people expect perfection every second of a cruise and that is impossible. Calling out a bad experience or poor service has nothing to do with a willingness to be pleased.

Until one reads what is being characterized as a bad experience…it’s clear that a significant minority of posters here have some unreasonable expectations and some really odd complaints.

  2. ‘Left luggage’ is just a synonym for bell storage. We have placed luggage in bell storage many times in many places, sometimes for a few days.

In my experience, superior hotels like the ones Regent uses have secure storage areas for the purpose. I hope that gives a bit of peace of mind.

That could be a huge liability issue if someone got injured since the cruise line would be providing the bikes.  Unlike shore excursions where the tour company would have liability if you were injured on a tour.

Many river cruises do provide bicycles. Liability issues abound in this industry but waivers can handle most problems.

Compass Rose does not require reservations. Walk in whenever you want. Some evenings there might be a slight wait if you arrive at a popular time, especially if you want a table for two.

If you do face a little wait you may step down to one of the lounges and the host will notify you when the table is ready

  5. In my experience, most all internet groups or forums have an ignore, mute or block feature that allows a user to hide individual members from one’s timeline. I can’t find such a feature here. If one exists, could someone please tell me where it may be found?

    Thanks!

Edit: I found it. Profile > Settings > Ignored Users

Simply enter the screen name of the poster you wish to ignore in the Ignored Users text box

I have a question.. we are cruising with another couple in Jan.  They will be on their first cruise, we are gold status so can select dining reservations early.  I assume we can not select a shared table and put their reservation number in when we select, correct?  So is it best for us to select a shared table then hope there is still room for them when they select or do we have to wait and simply select on the day they can select?

When you do get the answer to this one, would you please follow up with it? I’m interested as well. Thank you!!

Thanks for your comments!  See my other comments re Pacific Rim but - different sailings/seating times/days may have different results!

I respectfully submit myself for Five Lashings with a Wet Noodle!  The F and B Manager may have been there but I didn't realize because he wasn't wearing his name tag or stripes!  The Hotel Manager and Captain were definitely MIA.

Tbh I found your criticisms to be on the mild side…certainly a fair expression of your experience without the hyperbole we get all too often

Wow, that's some nice victim blaming right there.

I disagree. I’ve been on more than one Regent excursion where the itinerary changed mid-excursion because participants had failed to think objectively about their ability to participate. In some cases certain sites were cut out completely because the operator doubted the ability of several participants to negotiate the pathway, stairs, length of walk, etc.

If the Lord blesses me with a long life these limitations are coming for me as well. My intention is to properly evaluate my abilities when the time comes.

If you are boarding in Regensburg on 9/3 we are on the same cruise. We are coming into Munich early as well but staying at the host hotel and arranged that with Viking with no concerns. If you were assigned a hotel by Viking in Munich and chose to move to that hotel on 9/1, I would think Viking would be obligated to include you guys in the trip to Oberammergau. For us, that is the morning of 9/2, followed by lunch in Oberammergau, the Passion Play, dinner at intermission, and transportation to the hotel which is about 20 miles outside Oberammergau

We actually embark the Viking Ingvi on 9/7/22 at Passau. We are spending a few days on our own in Munich then the land based portion of tour begins in Oberammergau/Bad Bayersoien on 9/4/22.

It looks like we are a couple of days behind you all so I assume we are on different boats.  I suppose if we relocated to whatever hotel Viking booked in Munich they might let us board the bus but I’m not worried about that. We’ve booked a car service. I’m pleased my wife looked ahead instead of us scrambling for a ride the night before.

So sorry to learn of your flight issue...

For future air travel I suggest using a flight tracking app on your smart phone.  Enter your flight info and open the app on a regular basis.  If a flight can no longer be found you'll know to check the airline's website to determine the reason.  It may be as simple as a change of flight number in which case you'll just need to update the app...or a cancellation. An app will also show changes of flight times so there will be no surprises.

I use the free FlightView app.

Good advice! There are a number of choices. I recently switched from Flight Aware to Flighty. I often receive updates from the services before the ones from the airline!

  11. We leave 8-28-22 for our Oberammergau/Munich/Salzburg to Budapest trip. We just learned today that because we deviated on our arrival by coming to Munich early and staying at a different hotel that WE are responsible for getting ourselves to the Oberammergau hotel.

I’m not too exercised about skipping a bus ride although it’s likely to cost another €200-€250 to get us there. I’m a certainly happy we checked on this today otherwise we would have been left scrambling to arrange transport. Anyway, for anyone in this situation just know that you’ll need to make private arrangements.

@texasatty thank you so much for taking the time to share your cruise experience - I've really enjoyed sailing along with you and appreciate how long it takes to edit and upload so many photographs!   Experiencing such high temperatures in cities where we are unaccustomed to such weather must have been a challenge - although perhaps you are more used to such a climate?  Hope your last few days in London are a little more comfortable (the temperature has fallen considerably here, a couple of hours west of there) and that you have a safe and uneventful journey home!

Its funny you should say we are used to hot temps because Stacy and I discussed this. We are to a degree 😀 but if I’m honest, all we do in Texas when the thermometer is 97+ is go from one air conditioned building to another or go to the pool. If anyone suggested walking around town to sight see we would have them committed

  13. Well, we made it to London and have been here four days in the unbelievably luxurious Rosewood Hotel. I got frustrated with the ship internet trying to upload photos from an iPhone XS...I’m sure the files are very large. The ship internet is fine for loading a photo or two at a time to Instagram or FB but the interface with this site makes it tough to upload more than a couple here.

From Oslo it was on to Copenhagen, where we ran into some friends about to board another cruise ship to head up to Germany, St Petersburg, Finland and Sweden. After a drink in Nyhavn, we were off to explore the city. We sailed for Skagen and had a great day in that small but very interesting town. Up next was Bruges.

We we made it through the hottest day on record in Bruges after a very relaxing sea day. Following Bruges we sailed all night for our disembarkation at Southampton. We had a car waiting at 9:00 to take us to London and despite heavy traffic in the city we made it to our hotel by about 11:30 where we found our room ready. After a quick unpacking we were off to see the city and a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Globe, once again enjoying one of the hooter days on record.

This is Nyhavn in Copenhagen. There are a number of casual restaurants with sidewalk seating. From here we took a canal boat cruise and saw the city from a different perspective. Our first Regent cruise left from here about ten years ago. Then we flew in the same day, something I would never do now; consequently we had only ever seen Nyhavn in this port.

after the cruise we grabbed a beer and some chips and then headed off to Tivoli Gardens

We discovered Scandinavian people love churros and tacos...but who doesn’t? Taco Tuesday is a thing from Iceland to Denmark

Obligatory photo of the Little Mermaid as we walked back to the ship. It was late in the day though so the light was perfect and there were only a couple of folks there as opposed to the hundred or so we saw in the morning.F487FE93-C879-43C5-9C8E-5E6C6A0A6A10.thumb.jpeg.f20ee3f222aec5ca3a9ac95dc4772544.jpeg

Next up was the little town of Skagen Denmark. As we walked into town I began to notice very expensive cars parked at the houses. I saw a Rolls and two Bentleys while Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs and Land Rovers were a dime a dozen. It seems Skagen is a favorite summer house spot for Danes: Think Martha’s Vineyard or Mackinac Island

For most of its existence, Skagen relied on fishing, life saving and wreck salvaging as the coast is very dangerous for ships. The villagers manned life boats and there is a very interesting little museum near the shipyard. The wall in the photo above bears the name of every man who died over the years in life saving efforts. In one event, ten men died decimating the village and leaving eight widows and twenty-five fatherless children.

There were also some examples of houses from the area and a demonstration of fish salting

The village was beautiful but became quite crowded later in the day. We shopped and then rented bikes to ride out to the area where the North Sea meets the Baltic...and the site of many of the rescue missions

Next we had a sea day and then we enjoyed a heat-record setting day in Bruges. We started with a little canal cruise then essentially went from one shaded area to another. Luckily we have already deeply explored the city on another cruise, including climbing the Bell Tower.

It’s never too hot for a waffle, though!

We have had a great four days in London and we look forward to three more before finally flying home. I hope you enjoyed the trip. See you next time and happy cruising!

We are boarding in Oslo next year, so great to hear that doing the museums on your own was easy, since we will do that before the cruise.

Any other Oslo suggestions greatly appreciated!

After a morning with the museums we just caught Uber back to the Palace area and then spent some time walking n town and seeing the sights. That afternoon we ate near the fortress and explored it before boarding the ship which was docked just near there
