I have $500 in Carnival GC's and am seriously tempted to book a cruise. Not until 2021, at least, though.
There seem to be some decent prices out there, and I am still mourning my cancellation for my Feb cruise on the soon to be, if not already, scrapped Imagination.
Have you booked yet? Are you holding out? Are you tempted too?
I am just worried that if something happens with CCL that I would be out my $.
    Thoughts?

My husband and I along with 10 other family members were booked on the Legend's cruise to Norway, June 2020. We are the only two who decided to put our money toward another cruise. Last week we booked the Legend's June 25, 2021 cruise to Scotland and Ireland. We hope some of our other family will follow. If not, we will still have a great time. We have a lot of on board credit. The gift shop maybe my new best friend.

  2. I'm waiting for the new (as yet unnamed) ship that will debut in/around August 2020. I'm hoping it will do a few European sailings before it's TA to Port Canaveral. If so, we're hoping to do the last European sailing and then the TA back. Let's see if that pans out :)

I talked to my Carnival trip planner this week. We discussed this very topic. He stated that the schedule for the new ship should be out around the first of the years. He also said that they were hoping that it would sail in Europe before traveling to Port Canaveral. In my opinion, if European ports have the right method to refuel the ship, there is a good chance it will sail there a few times. That is my opinion. I do not know any more than anyone else. Maybe that is my hope.

  3. Hi there,Just wondering if anyone knows if Carnival will be sailing in Europe in the summer of 2019?

    Thanks[/quote

On our last cruise( Horizon April1) we were told that Carnival would introduce a new ship in 2020. I think, it will be built in Norway.

  4. Just off 8 day Horizon cruise.

Have read and then also heard a lot of complaining about the new elevator system on board the Vista and Horizon. My take is that If used correctly it works Fine.

The very best example was when we did self disembarking at the end of the cruise. In the past when we have tried to get off the ship with our luggage it had been a nightmare to get elevator to fit ourselves and our luggage. With this system we waited a bit but when elevator arrived it had room for all of us and our luggage instead of being full of people already and took us right to the floor we needed.

    How to Use:

When you walk up to the elevator choose the floor you are wanting to go to. Tap the button once for each person in the group that needs to get on elevator. In other words if there are 4 of you on Deck 3 and you want to go to deck 9, tap the screen toactivate it, then tap floor 9 option 4 times. A letter will appear each time to tell you Which elevator to board.

*be patient. Since you are not able to see where the elevators are you have no sense of how long until your designated elevator arrives. This adds to sense of longer waiting time but when it arrives it will take you to where you want to go. If it is a really busy time your wait will be longer. Just like any other ship.

*do not get impatient and just hop on the next elevator to arrive if it’s not the letter you were directed to. This is one reason why the elevators are full sometimes when they stop to pick people up, and the system then doesn’t work correctly.

*again push the button for each person in the group. That is the only way the elevator knows there could be 7 people all waiting for same floor. If you punch it just once an elevator may stop that doesnt have room for all.

It’s not perfect but it does work.

We were on the Horizon's April 1 voyage. We really liked the system. How many times have you gotten on a ship's elevator and discovered someone had punched buttons for every deck? I tis not possible with this system. Many office building are not using this method. BIG improvement.

  5. I couldn’t find this posted anywhere else. Just wondering what the best option is to park at Port Canaveral. I’m leaving on the Sunshine at the end of the month and will be driving to Port. Thanks!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

We have done it all; hotel parking, private parking, and port parking. We have decided that we will park at the port from now on. Much easier on all involved, especially if you have children with you.

  6. I would like "intelligent" lectures.....

I'm not talking stuff like Shakespeare....but relevant things

    1. History & highlights of the ports

    2. How to buy jewelry....what to look for/what to avoid

    3. A financial speaker

    4. Maritime issues

Things that don't insult my intelligence

I agree. Plus, I will add the following: cruises from Mobile and a ship in Europe every summer for at least five months. It is impossible for school employees to cruise during the school year unless they sail on another line.

  7. Loved it! Did vista in Europe last summer, she's nothing like any other carnival ship... loved all the outside spaces, never felt crowded. Food was great, entertainment was really good.... loved it so much we are thinking of doing horizon when she launches

My husband, two cousins, and I were on the May 1, 2016 sailing. I had a wonderful time. I would do it again tomorrow. I agree with the writer above. Also, I never had to wait for an elevator. All ships have pros and cons. When I am on a cruise, I am avoid the cons. We are eagerly awaiting the Horizon.

  8. I went to my bank today to give them information about our upcoming cruise this week. They told me that due to so much fraud recently, we can only withdraw $80.00 dollars worth of foreign currency daily from an ATM, not the $300.00 we had expected.

We did get our euros through Well Fargo two weeks ago. Usually, we wait until we arrive and use an ATM to get local currency.

My bank is a small hometown bank. Yours is probably different; however, it would not hurt to check.

  9. My husband was just saying, aside from all the price drops we got, the dollar has gotten stronger since we booked, so we are making money that way too, AND he just figured out how much money we are saving by not taking that excursion in Ephesus, and not eating off the ship that day, so he figures skipping Izmir even with the added VAT we are saving a little money.

I was whining about not getting to go to Ephesus and walk where Paul walked, when he pointed out that Paul lived in Rome and I will be walking all over where Paul walked in Rome...so....it's all unicorns and rainbows on this end again.

Dear Bride, Paul also visited Athens. If you are going to Malta, he was there also. There is a church , Paul's Shipwrecked Church, in Valletta. It is down a side street and not marked well. Google it. I enjoyed my visit.

  10. Are you on the Inaugural?

Yes. We will arrive in Venice on April 28. We are taking the train to Trieste on the 30th. My excitement can not be contained. A person would think I have never been off Peachtree Street the way I am acting. I can't wait to meet you and thank you for the blog and the wall information.

  11. Hi Bobbie!

Our cruise docked at the port right near the Old Town so it wasn't much of a walk to get there but I do recall shuttles being used also!

In 2012, both me and my partner managed just fine and we were terribly unfit and I am a larger set guy. I remember being surprised at how simple the steps were.

When with a tour, it can be very tempting to rush to try and keep up with the tour guide but if you're going on your own, then I think you'll be just fine if you take your time and have some patience. There's plenty of room to move so you won't be blocking anyones path.

Take a camera, the view is to die for.

OH THANK YOU SO MUCH. That is what I have been wanting to hear. we are going to do it ourselves. All four of us are very patient. He is so very determined. He wanted to book this cruise because of this port and the wall. I, on the other hand, wanted to see Crete.

  12. New post up today! All about Dubrovnik! :)

Thank you. Do you know if Carnival will have a shuttle to Old Town? From pictures I have seen, the path on the wall seem easy to walk. How difficult are the steps that lead up on the wall? My cousin has broken some bones in his foot and has to wear a steel boot right now. He may be in that boot when we sail. For years he has dreamed of walking that wall. His wife and I have tried to prepare him for disappointment by suggesting other activities. He is a very stubborn man.

  13. My sister and I would like to see Pompeii on our stop in Naples. She is recovering from surgery and has a little difficulty in walking. How walkable are the ruins? Is the surface very uneven, lots of steps, long distances, etc? This has been a dream of hers for many years and I hope she will be able to manage this. We were thinking of a private tour so she won't have to keep up with a guided group. Any thoughts here?

If you think you might need a substitute, google Ostia Antica and take a look . I believe your sister could use her walker there and it would be much easier than Pompeii. Also, I would suggest that you google pictures of Pompeii and take a good look at the streets. If you believe you can make it; follow your dream.

There is a cameo factory at the bottom of the hill. I bought a signed cameo that I wear proudly to remember my day in Pompeii.

  14. Agreed.

Your guess as to what it's about? I don't have any idea given the location.

Many cruise ship companies are dropping the Turkish ports. Could it have anything thing to do with that. The final payment for the May 1st sailing is Feb. 1. I would hope that if a change is to be made, it would be completed before then.

  15. I have NO desire to see her. I'm not a prude, but I disagree with her in so many ways. I would avoid any ship she is on. C'mon Carnival, you can do better than that.

I agree. If I were booked on a cruise and realized she was performing, I would cancel. Carnival can do better than that.

I believe we should have a list of entertainers who will perform. My granddaughter loves Marcus Anthony. She was born with a cranial facial disorder and has had many surgeries in her short life. Every time he has entertained on the ship we were sailing on, he has been so nice to her. I would book just for her to see him.

  16. We have been to Kusadasi on numerous occasions so when we were there this April we had made prior arrangements with a guide to take us south to DIdyma, Priene, and Miletus. One of the many wonderful things about this great day was we had these historic sights virtually to ourselves --- a welcome change from the mobs at Ephesus.

I had the same experience four years ago. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit those places. I don't think you would be disappointed.Do your research and your will probably be surprised with the history of the area. We booked a private tour with EKOL.

  17. With political instability, recent terrorism incidents and trouble at its borders, Istanbul has been cancelled as a port for Celebrity this year. What do Cruise Critic members speculate as to the possibility of returning to Istanbul in summer 2016? My cruise on Reflection is supposed to stop there overnight.

Celebrity is very cautious. We were on a Celebrity ship four years ago when Egypt was cancelled. We met people in other ports who docked there with Princess. They said they were never in any danger. The cancellation did not ruin our trip. Other interesting ports were added.

Istanbul is one of my favorite places. I hope the situation improves. Our next cruise stops at Izmir, the gate to Ephesus. Many people booked the cruise just to visit Ephesus. Many of the Syrian refugees are traveling to Izmir and boarding boats to other parts of Europe. I don't know if Kusadsi could be substituted or if they are experiencing some of the same difficulties.

  18. Good Morning! We will be in Livorno the second week of November. My travel companion and I are trying to decide what we want to do that day.

Option A - Take train to see Pisa and Lucca

Option B - Come off ship, and hire a taxi for the day to drive us to Pisa, and two wineries. We already have tower climb tickets, and the addresses of the two wineries we would like to visit.

Can anyone share their experience with hiring a taxi on the spot for the day in Livorno? About how much did it run? Good experience or a pain?

All feedback/opinions are welcome. Thank you all!

It is not worth the gamble. Find a good tour company and go with them or take the excursion the boat offers.
