If we take taxi from cruise port to Grand Anse beach where would we tell driver to let us off so we could be on the section of Grand Anse that you suggest that would have loungers food & drink and restroom facilities

I would suggest Umbrellas as it is further from the crowds of cruise folk. There is usually a guy renting loungers right out front of Umbrellas. Another option is to ask to go to BBC Beach and depending on the day (monday is often closed) Le Plywood does amazing food and the beach is super quiet until the Rum Runner  booze cruise from the cruise ship arrives. Its usually on there an hour though so shouldn't be too bad. Hope you have a wonderful visit.

Been researching ideas on here and tripadvisor on what to do on forthcoming cruise  stop, looking on tripadvisor  photos of menu's  show prices for drinks and food at various grand anse beach bars in dollars, is this local caribean dollars or us dollars ?

Also water taxi prices is this local or us dollar prices, many thanks in advance

Usually prices are in ec$ but check before you buy just to be 100% sure. Water taxi is US$5 per person each way.

Is it possible to combine snorkeling at the underwater sculptures with a tour of other parts of the island, such as Grand Etang, the waterfalls, the nutmeg processing? We will be in port from 8AM-5PM. Thanks!

Depends on who you go with as some tours are 4hrs with 2 snorkels. Seafaris do a 2.5hr tour. Either way it should easily be possible to do a morning snorkel and then an island tour with one of the taxi association guys or another operator.

Was just there two weeks ago.  Frustrating waiting for the water taxis to fill up.  Beach too crowded to be enjoyed.  Was hoping it would be better this time but was actually more crowded than last visit.  Won't return!

Did you venture further south on the beach. There is somewhat of a grouping mentality so if you stay where the water taxi drops you it will get super crowded especially if you come on a day when three ships are in. Walk 10 minutes max south and there is noone else around you

    Thank you.

You are most welcome. I actually thought about a nice little walking tour. through the tunnel and right for a view of our Carenage. Then back up road to the choc museum and well earned coffee 🙂 afterwards walk up hill 50 feet and on your right is Lilo's Batik shop (lovely stuff in there), another 50 feet up and on your right is Maria's glass jewellery store and coffee house. Then its an easy hill to the fort for a wander about and some great views and then back down the stairs to your ship

    Hi IslandStar,

If we don't want to deal with walking thru the tunnel with traffic, could we get a cab, do you think?

    Thanks

    Liz

you could but definitely not worth it as will take you longer in traffic in our one way system to bring you to the museum. The tunnel is only 350ft long - you'll be fine🙂

Any recommendations to spend 1 day in Grenada? We are on the Celebrity Reflection and we will be there on December 10.

Depends where your interests lie really. If you want to see the spices I would recommend one of the land tours you can get with the taxi association guys that you will see in yellow jackets as you walk into the terminal shopping area. If you are interested in sightseeing from a different perspective I would say the Grenada Seafaris Powerboat Adventure team do a great mix of sightseeing, loads of information and a great guided snorkel on the underwater sculpture park that they have helped to install all from a fast but fun powerboat

Good day all, for those that have been to Grenada previously, my client is traveling on RCCL and walking a distance is a bit of an issue.

How far is the ship from the cruise terminal where she might meet a tour guide or get a taxi? If the ship is a bit of a distance, are there shuttles available between the ship and terminal?

    Many thanks.

I am terrible at distances but thought this aerial shot may help as you can see size of ship and distance to red roofed cruise ship terminal. Taxi Association drivers that offer tours are just inside and the buses are just on the outside. Hope this helps. [ignore the red circle that is just to highlight the water taxi dock for another post I did]

If you are in on a Monday check ahead as it may be closed. All other days it is open and food and beach are wonderful. YOu'll need a taxi there and back

Our cruise ship is in Grenada from 12pm-7pm on a Thursday in January. My husband has limited mobility and will be using a walker. Our plan is to get tickets for the Grenada Discovery Train in the terminal. On the trolley train route we'll stay onboard at the first stop at the fort and then get off at the museum stop. We'll do the included museum tour and then walk the short distance to the Chocolate Museum and tour there. After we'll walk back to the 2nd train stop and finish the route back to the cruise ship terminal.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Sorry I didn't see this until just now. That does sound like a good plan. The Chocolate Museum is also a wonderful coffee house so that sounds like an ideal spot to have a well earned rest. Apologies our roads and sidewalks aren't super great for our disabled visitors. I hope you have a wonderful visit here.

From what I can tell, Umbrellas restaurant is somewhat set back from the water (with a parking lot in between?).  Do you have to go up to the bar/rest. for drinks or do they have runners on the beach.  What is the condition of their loungers (cushions?).  TIA

There are loungers but the guy may need a little searching for as he covers the area from Umbrellas down to the edge of Camerhogne Park. When you get there ask a local where you can rent a lounger 🙂

We are eager to see the Chocolate Factory, and spend a bit of time there, and of course, it would be exceedingly rude not to purchase some chocolate, right? :classic_biggrin:

Does anyone know how far it is from the cruise port, and approximately how much it costs for a taxi there?

Are taxis easily available for a return to the port, or should we ask one to wait?

Also, although we don't want a huge tour, are there any special sights that are sort of en route from port to Chocolate Factory?

(We probably need to avoid spice factories, or minimize time near them, due to possible allergies.)

We understand that this is a "little" factory, but that makes it more interesting.

(For example, we were fascinated a few years ago with a tour of the Curacao factory... not at all what we envisioned in advance, and we loved seeing it for that reason.)

    Many thanks!

Go to Belmont Estate on the East Coast (chocolate plantation had a great guided tour, traditional methods of processing, new chocolate making room with air conditioning, shop and lovely grounds and lunch). Go across the centre of the island to get there and see the Mona Monkeys and Grand Etang. I would recommend getting a BYO (build your own) tour with Sunsation Tours or you can simply ask the Taxi Association guys in the cruise ship terminal when you arrive 🙂

We are thinking of a beach day here on Feb. first..have seen many lovely pictures, but very few people in the water. We enjoy being in the water a lot, is it rocky or have a strong current?.....maybe people just prefer to relax....how is the swimming...thanks😉😉🍺🍺

The water is fabulous and while there are a few bits of broken coral in certain areas the vast majority of it is lovely sand. Calmness usually 99.99% guaranteed but you can never be 100% if we get some Northern Swells 🙂

We took a ship shorex that was awful--would not stop for snorkel due to visibility (actually, that happened on 2 diff cruises) and then dropped us at a shallow dirty beach rampant with vendors, no food, no loungers, no latrines. We don't want to go again on the champagne/lobster/cat that goes to the private mangrove-swamp beach/marina. We're looking for one of the "gorgeous beaches" promised by the exclusive Travel+Leisure mag this month! Where are they?? Grand Anse sounds hectic and again, latrines, and drama.  So there are apparently other beaches... Where are they? thx

Grand Anse is a 2 mile long beach - why stay with the crowds. Walk south for 5 minutes and you get hardly any people, beach loungers, bars and fewer vendors.

BBC Beach is where some of the rumrunner booze cruise drop but if you had no visibility at the snorkel site it probably means it was rough which means BBC would be rough too. Its still very pretty though.

You could go even further south in a taxi and visit Magazine Beach, or Pink Gin Beach or further afield to La Sagesse on the South of the island.

Latrines? Sounds very war zone 🙂 Do you mean bathrooms with toilets? If you buy a drink in the bars on the beach they will let you use their bathrooms.

  15. 5 minutes stroll I would say. Come out of cruise ship terminal and turn right, walk through the Sendall Tunnel (if has traffic so hug the right hand side). When you come out follow the road but keep left going past the museum. Take a left and just up on the left is the Chocolate Museum. Go in, Say hello, grab a chair, put feet up and relax with all things chocolatey!!

  16. When you arrive in port there is a stand for the Taxi Association. They can do as much or as little as you want to see and then take you to one o our many beaches. I would highly recommend them. Also if you wanted something on the water instead of land for a couple of hours which also provide information, sightseeing and the underwater sculptures I would highly recommend Grenada Seafaris and their Powerboat Adventure. Hope you have fun whatever you choose

  17. Thanks IS, that's reassuring...I wear a shortie wetsuit so that would help to protect but wouldn't want to get bitten on the face or extremities either! I also imagine the weather will be more settled in January when we're visiting...fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed for great weather and seas
