  1. Many people are not yet aware of how dolphins arrive at the swim with dolphin attractions or how they are 'trained' to perform for you/swim with you. If everyone wanting to swim with a dolphin or participate would take a few minutes to visit this link and learn a bit more our mammal friends would appreciate it.

  2. We were told at Dolphin Quest in Bermuda that they do not train with deprivation or torture. They have received many accolades for their methods. Of course anyone could tell us anything but since I have done this twice at two different locations, I approve of the way they handle their dolphins since I experienced it first hand. They gave them many breaks and lots of treats and were handled in a positive manner.

Ric O'Barry and his 50 years of experience will refute that completely. 5. If we do this on our own - book directly with dolphin academy - what is the best way to get to the dolphin academy from our Holland American Koiningsdam ship? Hubby can't walk too far.

  6. We also did the "Swin with the Dolphin" in Cozumel last year. We were with our daughter. All of us truly enjoyed the experience.

They limit the number of people on each tour. The tours often are sold out. We had to waite until our next visit to Cozumel to take the tour because all of the tours on our prior visit were full.

Lost of people do not share your view that dolphins in a large pool is cruel.

  7. We are looking at this as well...curious if anyone has done the Private Island Dolphin Encounter through Carnival and what you thought?

  8. Sailing Rccl in January. Would like older teens to swim with the dolphins at Blue Lagoon Island. Can adults just pay to get to the island and be observers? Royal says no....Blue Lagoon says yes and it was apparent it happens quite often!

    Has anyone done this? Thanks!

  9. My DH is interested in the history of Grenada and he would like to see the area where they have the Russian and Cuban plane from the 1983 invasion. Is there a particular tour that we need to take that will include this or is it close enough that we can walk there from where the ship docks? Thank you

It is on the east coast of the island where our old airport used to be so you will definitely need a tour guide and transport. Ask one of the Taxi Association gentlemen you will meet inside the cruise ship terminal when you arrive and tell them you want a good history tour taking in Pearls Airfield and they should hook you up

  10. So will we get on the water taxi at the same dock where the ship is docked? That's what happened the last time we were there a few years ago and it was drop us on the beach; as you say, got a bit wet but it was fun :D

LOL it was probably broken back then too. Yes it is the same dock next to the ship.

The new one will not be a floating dock but will be fixed and in concrete. More pilings are in and re-bar is down for 1st concrete layer so it is moving along quite quickly. Maybe it will be ready for end of November after all :D

  11. Looking through the thread hope this will answer a few questions on the Underwater Sculpture Park and how to see it

The park is within the Marine Protected Area for which you need to buy a wrist band to enter (US2 divers; US$1 snorkelers - this may be changing soon). Not all operators include it in their price and add it to your overall cost.

HAven't visited in a while but looking at it Grenada Seafaris seem to have a new website with direct booking booking system and prices listed. Also a live Chat Now button to answer any questions the website may not cover.

Latest media article on snorkeling the park link attached https://www.atastefortravel.ca/7769-snorkelling-grenada-underwater-sculpture-park/

hope you all enjoy a fun snorkel in the Worlds 1st Underwater Sculpture Park

  12. Since Island Star reported that the water taxi dock at Grand Anse beach was badly damaged by Hurricane Maria, I was wondering if anyone knows if the water taxi is now operating. It was certainly an easy and inexpensive way to get there when I went several years ago. Thanks.

The team from Grenada Seafaris Powerboat Adventure and the Water Taxi guys met with Government and Tourism Authority Officials recently. New pilings are going in (newer location more towards the vendors market) so we are hoping it will be operation by end November. As before asap it is fit for use I will let everyone know clear.png?emoji-cool-1690

As far as I am aware until the new dock is in situ the water taxi guys will be operating with a head to beach and drop you procedure. You are likely to get wet but may be fun if sea is calm ;p

  13. Any news on that yet IslandStar?

  14. Thanks Islandstar...thinking of you all

Thankyou. We are fine though unlike our sister islands. Grenada has already sent 4 full containers to Dominica with water, medical supplies, tarpaulins, non-perishable foods, feminine and baby products. Prime Minister Skerrit of Dominica broke down in an interview and has asked the international community to come to their aid. The Nature Island has been stripped bare - it is heart wrenching.

  15. Hurricane Maria missed us thankfully but the swells she threw our way very badly damaged our water taxi dock on grand anse beach. It has been completely removed and we are in the process of getting a new one but it could be some time till we have a dock up and running so land taxis may be best bet. ASAP I get any updates I will post them.

  16. Dominica was hit by the full force of a CAt5 hurricane at 9pm last night. All communications are down the only information coming out is via ham radio. Last communications said half a village has been swept away in flash flood, trees and cars all over the place, everyone has lost their roof, church and main town flattened. We in Grenada are waiting to hear from friends and family that they are ok.

  17. Thankyou. Today we are hoping for the best for our sister islanders of Dominca who got a Cat5 direct hit last night at 9pm. We have friends here desperate to get news from Dominica about family but there's no communication at all as everything is down. Only communication is via ham radio. Latest reports are half a village has disappeared in flash floods, cars and trees everywhere, everyone has lost their roof, no communication. Town centre has been flattened. Just awful!

  18. HI there, Hurricanes Irma and today Maria both went well north of Grenada. Today we have a little rain but no wind and it is very hot and humid. We have had some sea swells but nothing major - apart from that we have been extremely lucky. We are super concerned for our sister islands which are suffering another terrible hurricane after the devastation of Irma.

  19. A brilliant summary of driving my lovely island by Randy - still giggling now imagining him facing the oncoming garbage truck :'):')

All that said we are safe if you drive defensively and not try to copy anything the buses do and dont pay any attention to them if they say its safe to overtake - they like to help but trust your own vision on corners etc.

The only down side to driving yourself is you are so intent on looking at the road you miss our fabulous scenery and you miss out on a lot of information the the taxi association guides give you.

Whatever you choose I hope you have a fabulous day visiting my beautiful spice island

  20. water taxi and land taxi are both safe. Water taxi drops you right in front of Coconuts Creole restaurant which has a restaurant chairs etc. If you walk a little to the right you will have numerous other options for food and drink but Coconuts gets my vote :-)

  21. Both options can be done but not well in one day. I would definitely recommend Grenada Seafaris as it not only takes you to the sculpture park and gives you a guided snorkel (they are key members of the small group that maintain the statues) but they also give a lot of information about the island (history, geography, ecology etc) in the 2.5hr powerboat adventure. Its actually a very good one-stop-shop for sightseeing/snorkeling/fun/information. The tour usually ends by 11:30 so you would still have time to go to the beach and relax or go to see the waterfalls with one of the Taxi association 1/2 day tours.
