  1. We have had very good luck using Cortrans Shuttle Service, you might check with them and see if they're pickup times work out for your schedule. They are a shared shuttle so you may have to ride with others who are heading to the same area as you. I have seen others using Cocoa Beach Shuttles but I have no experience with them.

  2. Capt. BJ,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated, My planned cruise date would be 2/10/2018 and it looks like the 4 ships in port will be Norwegian Epic (4100 pass.), Disney Fantasy (4000 pass.), Carnival Magic (3690 pass.), and Carnival Sunshine (3006 pass.). My previous cruise was 12/10/16 and there were the same 4 ships in port and traffic was horrible, hopefully it won't be as bad this time.

According to you port load chart, my previous cruise on 12/10/16 was only the second time that both Magic and Epic were both in port together other than on 11/12/16 and on that date the Epic docked at Terminal 1 which I could be wrong, but I believe is on the other side of the port and shouldn't have affected traffic on 401. So I'm hoping on 12/10/16 they were still learning how traffic was going to be when 4 ships were docked on the north side of the port and overloaded 401.

Thank you very much for all your informative information on traveling to Port Canaveral. It's been very useful to me and hopefully others who planning to travel to that area.

    Thanks,

  3. Traffic on 401 still stinks on busy port days. There is only so much they can do about it.

Thanks Magellan321, That's what I was afraid of, I was hoping it was only a temporary issue due to a new ship being in port. I guess I'll just have to allow a some extra time and have some patience and keep telling myself that I'm on vacation and not at work.

    Thanks,

  4. A1A is always busy Cocoa Beach through to Port Canaveral during tourist season. Traffic patterns have not changed, in fact, they are going to be starting road work on SR520 which goes between US1 and A1A so you might want to avoid that stretch.

Thanks for the reply, I will keep that in mind when there. I was mainly inquiring about the traffic on 401 after exiting A1A as it was really slow stop and go traffic getting into the port over the drawbridge area. Our Uber driver said it was worse than normal and attributed it to the Norwegian Epic which had recently began embarking at Port Canaveral. We were just hoping to avoid the traffic problems next time if they still exist when 4 ships are in port. It just seemed that Capt. BJ had some info a while back about the traffic issues at one time. Was hoping to hear from him on this topic.

    Thanks

  5. I'm just wondering how the traffic on highway 401 from A1A into the port area is on Saturday's with 4 ships in port? We were there last December headed to the Carnival Magic and it took us 30-45 minutes to get through the stop and go traffic into the port from A1A highway. We're hoping they have improved or changed the traffic problems and it was only backed up because I believe that was the first month or so of having 4 larger ships in port and they just hadn't developed a good system for traffic yet.

We are looking into booking another cruise from Port Canaveral in the future and don't want to have to sit in traffic again.

I'm hoping Capt. BJ or someone else who lives in that area or has cruised from there recently might be able to help me.

    Thanks,

    Stingray310

  6. CaptBJ,

thanks for the info on the attendants, that is good to know in case I forget to bring change or forget where I packed it. And oh well, if I do have to wait in a small line to pay, it won't bother me to much, after all, I'll be in Vacation mode and won't mind to much. In fact it might be good practice for when I get on the ship, because there I'm I'll see a few lines on board.

    Thanks,

    Stingray

  7. We are flying into Orlando and renting a car to drive to our hotel in Cocoa Beach, and I was just wondering if the toll booths along that route have attendants in the toll booths that can make change if needed or do we need to make sure that we have correct change with us before getting on the tollway? I don't want to have to pack a bunch of extra coins if I don't need to. Also wondering if there are several toll booths along the way or do you pay as you enter or exit the tollway only once?

    thanks,

  8. Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach is nice...and a great location if you want to visit Ron Jon's surf shop and plenty of restaurants.

thanks for the reply magellan321, I just wanted someone with some familiarity with the area to confirm my hotel choice for being in a nice, safe area. I appreciate the input and will check out Ron Jon's if we get a chance. Good to know there are restaurants close by, although we're getting in somewhat late, we may need to pick up something for dinner or late night snack.

    Thanks,

  9. I've booked the Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach for my precruise stay, never stayed there before and actually have never sailed out of Port Canaveral. Just wondering if anyone else has stayed there or has any comments about the hotel. It seems to have pretty good ratings, comments and reviews at a reasonable price. Just hoping its a decent place for a 1 night precruise stay.

    Thanks,

    Stingray310

Trying this again, does anyone have any experience or opinions for the Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach? Just wondering if I have booked a decent hotel for a 1 night stay and is it in a nice area of town.

    Thanks,

  11. I would like to thank everyone for their responses, I will definitely take all comments into consideration when making my decision. I would definitely feel more comfortable with a 12:30 or 1:00 flight, but the next available flight that works for us isn't until 3:50 and that's a little bit more time than I would like to spend at the airport. I was just weighing my options based on other cruises out of Miami and getting off the ship and arriving at Ft. Lauderdale airport by 8:00 or 8:30 and thought Port Canaveral to Orlando airport may be a similar experience, but I have never sailed from Port Canaveral before.

    Thanks again

  12. I have no experience cruising out of Port Canaveral, but I have cruised several times out of the Miami & Ft. Lauderdale ports, so I am not familiar with the Port Canaveral terminal and times and distances to the Orlando airport for making earlier flights. I'm just wondering what others opinions are of making and 11:35am flight from Orlando airport. I know Carnival does not recommend any return flights earlier than 12:50pm, but I know in Miami we typically get off the ship and we can be at Ft. Lauderdale airport by 8:00 or 8:30, so I know Carnival allows a lot of buffer on their recommended flight times.

We have Platinum status with Carnival so there is not a problem with getting off of the ship early, but I'm just looking for recommendations from previous Port Canaveral terminal cruisers on the best way whether to take a shared shuttle, private shuttle or rental car, because I don't think Carnival will let us take their shuttle with an 11:35 flight. Our other option is to wait for a 3:50 or later flight and rent a car and find something else to do before our flight, but I think we will just be ready to get on a plane and head back home after being away for a week.

I know there are many unforeseen factors that could affect the debarkation times, but I'm just looking for peoples typical arrival times at the Orlando airport based on previous experiences without delays or other problems.

    Thanks,

    Cruiser310

  13. You can also book a hotel from http://www.goportcanaveral.com

They have a sale going on right now too

Just wondering if you or anyone else here has an experience using goportcanaveral.com that they could share. I've heard several bad reviews and a few good reviews, but would like some other opinions from fellow cruisers as to how prompt they are with their shuttle times and what variety of times they might have. They seem to have really reasonable prices, but was just wondering what others thought of their quality of service. Would appreciate any info and first hand experiences that anyone could provide for me. Thank you in advance for any info provided.
