  1. Appears to be state related. We are in a sold out Balcony category, so I don't think it will apply to us - and we don't want to change cabins. Perhaps the port charges will apply though. Woohoo! ;)

Balcony Discounts showing up for December 12th sailing. Can't tell if it's over 55 or state. But they have lowered the prices. Also the port fees dropped to $140 from $144. Not much, but I thought we would get a credit?
  2. Always AFTER.... for the reasons you stated

this time we are flying in the same day as the cruise sails.

When should we put on the cruise line luggage tags. Before the flight, or after we pick up our luggage at Newark Airport.

I was thinking to put them on after our flight lands. Airlines really throw the luggage around, and I thought they might tear off..

    Thanks.

  3. Just a question. Why didn't you turn the pictures in? Someone paid for them and they weren't yours. I guess it is a good idea to check just in case someone decides to keep what's yours.

    We've never found anything.

Who knows how long those photos were in the back of the drawers for? And.... do you really think that the cruise line would try to find the correct home for them? Yeah, right. :(

And back then (20 years or so ago), those photos were not as pricey as they are nowadays. :p

  4. On one of our first cruises, we found someone's cruise photos and mailed them to one of our cruise buddies unsigned and stated "wish you were here - the chicken she is dry". When he got the photos, he had no idea who the people were and was confused. He figured out it was from us by the chicken remark (which was made to us (and him) by a waiter on a previous cruise).

We always look in the back of the drawers now. We've found clothing, new scarves, and assorted stuff. (A lot of stuff falls out the back of the drawers and into the abyss.) We even found a pair of shorts that could fit both of us at once (yes, they were HUGE!) It's like a mystery tour.

And it's always good to double check there before you disembark the ship especially if you overstuff the drawers.

  5. This thread reminds me of two "lost and found" stories - both quite amazing...

On our first cruise to Alaska, we invited our tablemates to our balcony cabin to view the glaciers (as they were in an inside cabin). We visited and talked, wandered inside and out, etc. The next day, the wife mentioned to us that she lost a precious gold earring some place the day before. They had looked everywhere... As chance had it, a couple days later, they came by to our cabin to enjoy the views from the balcony - and she looked down and spotted the earring on the track for the window-washing machine, just below our balcony. It took a little manuevering, but we recovered the little guy.

    ------------

On a cruise to Bermuda, we were at Horseshoe Bay Beach, our DS who was about 9yo went out swimming with DH and other family members. He's pretty nearsighted so he was wearing his glasses. A wave knocked his glasses and a lens fell out in about 6 feet of water. I was lying on the beach, when my DH came to me, explained what happened, and asked for a swimming mask. He said that my brother was trying to stay in the general spot (in spite of the waves) so they could possibly locate the lens with aid of the mask. Before he got back, my brother actually spotted the lens mostly buried in the sand and retrieved it - thank goodness for Bermuda's crystal clear water. We were all relieved (especially my DS) after we finally got a tiny screwdriver to reinsert the lens.

  6. During the days of "horse racing", our tablemates decided to get wild and carried some rumballs from the Lido buffet up to the stage and nonchalantly placed them behind the horse's butts. A few minutes later after waiting in line for a ticket, he proceeded to walk over and look down at the rumballs, look back at us, shrug his shoulders, pick one up, sniff it, made a face, then bit it - then proceeded to spit it out making awful faces. The passengers paying attention to the stage went hysterical. :D

By the way, he was a lot of fun and got us into all kinds of "innocent" trouble!

  7. You know what's funny about this? That two of my coworkers recently got married to each other (1/16/11) and they took a honeymoon cruise on the celebrity equinox. He told me that they were chosen for that Not-So-Newlywed game, and that when they were taken backstage the Cruise Director told them to say exactly that, because "that's what the people like to hear". He was bummed that it was rigged, but they still won the game :)

After watching a few of these shows, we have concluded that a lot of them are "staged". On one of our last cruises, the couple in their 80s were so spot on with all their answers that it just couldn't happen. They couldn't even remember which seats they were supposed to sit in, but the memory for that stuff 60+ years ago was pretty instant. Sure, there's that long term memory vs short term memory stuff, but really... :p

It's just entertainment and they all received the same parting gifts (so to speak).

Of course, after reading these posts, there's quite a bit of entertainment almost everywhere on the ship - if you are in the right place at the right time.

  8. Enjoying a sea day a few years ago on the upper deck (away from the pool). My husband points out a topless woman a bit down from me (she has a big floppy hat and I can't see her face)....then we notice her male companion laying next to her on his stomach.....going....commando. Got even more interesting when he rolls over a covers himself with a tiny white washcloth from the cabins....

Best part....wait for it....they are our table mates. We were so freaked out we ate at the specialty restaurants for a few nights...

Our favorite one from this thread so far... Too funny! :D
