  1. My hubs and another couple were all on this cruise. This was our 4th time to Alaska and their 3rd time. We had a good time all and all. The entertainment was repeatious from earlier Princess cruise we had been on so we didn't attend many of the shows. The food was excellent and we did Chefs Table one night which was super good. The biggest complaint I had was that the common areas w ere freezing cold. I mean to the point people had on heavy coats inside most of the time. We have never been disappointed in Princess.

  2. We recently returned from a great cruise that left from LA and sailed to Hawaii and back. Best vacation EVER! We used Princess transfers as we had on many occasions. Arrived at LAX approx. 9:30am - got on the Princess shuttle bus- was taken to the Crown Hotel where we were put into a holding room for over 3 hours. We were then put back on the bus to be taken to the pier. We got to the pier and sat for another hour in the terminal lot. One of the passengers on the bus finally got out and asked the driver what the problem was and then we were finally taken to the terminal and let off. Check in was a breeze but of course it was 3:00pm by then. Had a quick hamburger at the grill and headed to our cabins to get ready for the muster drill. We missed all the pre-cruise activities. I emailed Princess headquarters before we left LA and on Monday morning I was called back. They did end up giving us a free specialty dining but we STILL missed all the festivities. There was no reason we had to sit at the hotel or in the terminal lot. Thank goodness the cruise made up for the disappointment at the very beginning. Think twice before using their transfers.

  3. Thank you for all of your nice advice. We are doing R/T and we have done Mexican Rivera cruises from LA. I remember it being fairly cool about the first day and after that nice and warm. I am pretty acclimated to warm temperatures as I live in Arizona. Right now in my packing stack I have about half sleeveless and have sleeved tops. Our cruise two weeks away I will reevaluate before I actually pack. Thanks again.

  4. We're going on a cruise from LA to Hawaii early October. Will I be ok wearing sleeveless tops on deck once we get out of the CA area? I know LA is always a bit nippy but after a day or so, I am hoping the temp will increase enough to wear sleeveless tops. And once we get to Hawaii the temp is good - right?

  5. I was on the Dream when that happened. The man was trying to get to his neighbor's balcony and was crawling over the rail and fell. He fell one level. We were with a large group and one of the couples was questioned about the guy that died as they were partying with he and the group they were with earlier that evening. The Carnival security department had a flag on her card and when she returned from ashore and put her card in to return to the ship an alarm went off and she was held to talk to security. First off the security started questioning her in front of other passengers that were coming back onto the ship - FBI also talked to her about the incident. It was their first cruise and they will never go again - totally ruined their trip. Carnival security was very indiscreet about their questioning.

  6. I really appreciate the info. After getting quotes for tours and transfers from various New Orleans companies it's been pretty much decided to double up in cabs and take them to the Courtyard Marriott where we will be staying. Same goes for the trip to the cruise terminal 3 days later then we are taking the Carnival transfer to the airport on embarkation day. We still would like to go to Avery Island and see the Tobasco factory but it's over 2 hours away and I can't find anyone to take us under about $1300. We will be either cancelling that one or renting a car for a day. Out of 24 people on our cruise only 6 want to go there. I will look into the street car information you suggested. Thanks again!

  7. We're heading to New Orleans for the Dream Cruise to the Western Caribbean in Jan 2015 with a group of 24. We have yet to arrange our transfers from the airport to the hotel and the hotel to the cruise terminal. I have gotten a couple of quotes for our group on these transfers but I decided to reach out to see if anyone knows of a good transfer company. We would also like to go to Avery Island for the Tobasco tour but haven't found anyone less than $1300 for that - only 6 of us going to Avery Island. I'm wondering at this point if we should just rent a car/van at the airport for our New Orleans days then return it back to the airport and pick up the Carnival transfer/bus there. We aren't all staying at the same hotel and not all coming into town at the same time. Any thoughts or ideas?

  8. We sailed out of New Orleans a couple of years ago and I don't remember any smell. I do remember how interesting it was to weave back and forth in the inlets/river to get to the gulf. I do remember seeing oil rig platforms further out and thinking how pretty the lights looked again against the dark sky. And I do remember the skyline of New Orleans as the sun set. It was impressive. I guess it's all attitude. Funny how you can read 2 reviews from the same cruise and one is the best vacation EVER and the other review says it was a terrible trip. We liked sailing out of New Orleans so much that we have booked another cruise that leaves from there in January 2015 - our group is up to 10 couples!

  9. I ALWAYS take something to prevent getting sea sick. I don't want to risk ruining my vacation. I remember my first cruise was so rough that when you walked down the halls you could hear people getting sick - not pleasant. Last October we left from New Orleans and my husband got a little sick once we got out in the open water - there was a little weather left over from a passing hurricane. He normally never gets sick. I think I made a believer out of using Bonnine. You might want to do the same and have a wonderful time!

  10. The door decor is fun. I can't figure out why some folks destroy or steal the decorations off the door. If they don't like them then don't look at them. It's all in good fun and I thought that's what vacation is all about.
