  1. Thanks so much for this information!  This was exactly the kind of information I was looking for since my son and I are on a RT Alaska cruise out of Vancouver.  We also have travel insurance, so we are covered.  Looks like Canada's isolation/quarantine is longer than the US - 14 days instead of 5.

It is there- it just isn't terribly easy to find. Do read the top paragraph before going to the Vancouver section.

Huh, I'm not seeing anything about what happens if you get test positive for covid while on board in this doc.  These seem to be the rules for boarding the ship proving you don't have covid and are vaccinated.

The other doc that is specific to US and European sailings spells out what Celebrity will cover beyond the cost of any testing. Things like if you test positive onboard and need to quarantine for more than the number of days left on your sailing, you can stay on board to finish your quarantine.

  3. The Covid quarantine policy was updated on April 22 and gives guidance for ships starting from US and European ports. I don't see any mention about Canadian or other ports.  Am I missing something?

    From https://www.celebritycruises.com/content/dam/celebrity/pdf/cel-covid-19-cancellations-and-refunds-policy.pdf

"For all Celebrity cruises scheduled to sail from the European Union or the United Kingdom between May 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022, inclusive, if you test positive for COVID-19 during the voyage: • Celebrity will cover the cost of necessary COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard the ship; • you and members of your Traveling Party may stay onboard the ship to complete any required quarantine period, without needing to pay additional cruise fare, stateroom gratuities or taxes/fees to Celebrity for the same; and • Celebrity will assist with coordinating travel arrangements to get you and members of your Traveling Party back home, but will not be responsible for any associated costs. • For all Celebrity cruises scheduled to sail from the U.S. on or before May 17, 2022, and those scheduled to sail from the European Union or the United Kingdom between May 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022, inclusive: • If a guest who purchased flights through Celebrity is denied boarding at embarkation or reboarding, or is disembarked during the voyage due to a positive COVID-19 test or being suspected of having COVID-19, Celebrity will coordinate the travel arrangements, and cover the airline change fees and any difference in the airfare for the same class of service, necessary to fly the guest back to the city of their original flight departure point. If such a guest did not purchase flights through Celebrity, Celebrity will assist with coordinating travel arrangements necessary to get the guest back home but will not be responsible for any associated costs."

  4. Thank you all for replying to my concerns!  I am feeling better about this trip. As a few of you mentioned, it's about the time with my son and celebrating his graduation. Part of the equation is that my son is autistic and doesn't take well to change. I was trying to weigh out the options before I discussed it with him.  It's a little ironic because my a huge part job is coaching teams to pivot when they have new "learnings".  I'm certainly learning a lot, especially about barnacles in those other threads and about confirming the bigger picture in this thread.  Here's to our first, not last Alaska vacation!

Where are you getting the information about the "predicted" short port times? Agree that not enough time for excursions in port would probably cause me to cancel. Why are they shortening the times and is there a reason to think this may spread to other sailings?

It's due to barnicles on the hull slowing the ship down it affected the first 3 Eclipse sailings. Ours is the 4th sailing.

  6. We're booked on the May 22nd Eclipse sailing to Alaska. It's our first trip to Alaska and now thinking about canceling because of the predicted shortened port times. The May 15th sailing is spending such a short time in most ports that the excursions we planned are likely to be canceled if our trip is the same. This makes it quite a different trip than we thought we booked.

Here's some of my concerns weighing on the should we go ahead with the (likely) changed itinerary or cancel and book another cruise:

    1. We used FCC from a March 2020 canceled cruise- what happens with that FCC if we cancel? We booked this last September under Cruise with Confidence- I think that allows us to cancel- not sure anymore.

    2. I bid and won a move up- does that get refunded to my credit card if I cancel?

    3. If I cancel, it's unlikely that my traveling partner (son) will be able to cruise in the next year. I hate to disappoint him- cruises have been our "thing". He's starting a FT position in June with limited PTO that he already has plans for.

    4. We are really excited and looking forward to this getaway to celebrate his graduation. We booked amazing excursions- float plane in Ketchikan, ocean raft in Icy Straight, and the Hubbard Glacier small ship tour. We also have a rental car booked for Juneau on our own.

I can cancel the flights and hotel without penalty.

I'm 50/50 about canceling or going ahead with the trip with altered expectations. Is the scenery from the ship enough?

Update, I e-mailed the move up team & got a response within a couple days. We got it! Our original reservation was for a SS guarantee & we got placed in an accessible room, per the move up rep, they wanted to check first to make sure we did not need the accessible layout before changing. We are so excited, my husband is a nurse & this will be the longest break he's gotten in a couple years 🙂 We're staying extra diligent masking, distancing etc. on this cruise so we can (hopefully) stay healthy and enjoy every minute in this room as we know it's a rare treat!

We're still "pending". What email address did you send to?

I can definitely agree on the World Class Bar.  I still am trying to perfect an aged Rum old fashion that matches the Zacapa one they serve.  We loved heading there after the shows for a quiet drink. You could always find a seat and actually have a conversation.

That being said, the Martini Bar was our favorite for a pre dinner cocktail.   Just a lot of fun and the bartenders were always fun. I am enough of an uncouth barbarian not to mind a shaken Martini and I spent many nights working through the gin list.

Here's the recipe for the Zacapa old fashioned, my favorite drink from the WCB

Curious- has Celebrity made any mention of ArriveCan since they are mentioning the vaccinations? Will they be checking those before boarding in Alaska?

My son took a flight to Canada a couple of weeks ago. His ArriveCan an information was checked when he checked into his first flight.

You are not alone! I much prefer having an actual book in hand. So disappointed Celebrity is doing away with their libraries.

On our first Celebrity cruise, my son found a graphic novel that he was planning to purchase in the library the first day. This was one of the things that made us switch our allegence from Princess to Celebrity

  12. We were invited to a sail away on the Equinox helipad during our first cruise. We were in Aqua Class. Not sure why we were invited.

Same cruise, we were invited to the bridge for a tour. During the Celebrity Connections party for our Cruise Critic roll call, I just asked one of the officers for the bridge tour explaining that my son had a passionate interest in the ship's bridge. A couple of days later, the invitation came.

  13. I'm stumped and could use your assistance.

Yesterday, the Canadian gov't announced some testing changes starting Feb 28th when boarder crossing - antigen test within 24 hrs or PCR test within 72 hrs, etc. You can see details here https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/news/2022/02/government-of-canada-lightens-border-measures-as-part-of-transition-of-the-pandemic-response.html

This is the part I'm confused about:

    "As of February 28, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. EST:

We will be easing the on-arrival testing for fully-vaccinated travellers. This means that travellers arriving to Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, will be randomly selected for arrival testing. Travellers selected will also no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting their test result."

So, does this mean that we won't have to have quarantine plans any more if traveling to Canada?

    Thanks,

    MadisonMom
