  1. Smoking areas on S-class ships (Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse & Silhouette) include the following locations:

Deck 12 (Pool Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside just forward of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 14 (Sun Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port- (left) side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted.

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

Note that this is from information provided on the Silhouette in November 2015.

  2. Actually, it is one (1) berth (i.e., price of 1 passenger) per eight (8) cabins based upon the average per passenger price for all the categories of the cabins booked. The individual making the “group” booking needs to specify the cabin categories and make the appropriate deposits at the time of booking with the Celebrity Group coordinator.

As az tchr suggested, use a TA and it will save the OP from a lot of headaches .

  3. Is anyone suspicious about the OP? Well, I am.

The OP is a first time poster and has started two threads on this forum – one seeking information about using an alias or fake ID while on a cruise, and the other seeking information about what valuables passengers have and carry around while on the ship. You are all assuming that the OP is an innocent, un-informed potential cruiser who needs information for writing a novel. But how do you know? Just suppose that the OP is a Troll (thief?) seeking information for nefarious purposes. So far the responses have provided a lot of useful information for such an individual.

However, maybe my years working in communications and cyber security has just made me more suspious.

  4. Cellar Masters was built with the all S-class ships. With the exception of the Eclipse – where it has been converted to a Gastro Pub – Cellar Masters still exists on the other S-class ships. When I was on the Silhouette in April 2014, the wine dispensers were still there. But the wine dispensers are being phased out.

Michael’s Club - on Deck 5 - was the occasional “piano bar” on all S-class ships when they were built. It was converted to Suites-only lounge within the past two years

  5. It is not the cruise line or the ship but the requirements of one or more of the countries on the itinerary.

For example, cruises that sail “around the Horn” in South America collect the passports because the authorities in Chile and Argentina require a physical inspection of all passenger passports by their respective agents. Instead of having to line up all passengers to display the passports, the passport control personnel board the ship prior to entering each other’s territorial waters and inspect the passports. The passports are then returned to all passengers when the inspection is complete.

  6. My wife and I have been on 30+ cruises with Celebrity and have always received any promised OBC within 48 hours after boarding.

A manager in the Guest Relations (Purser’s) office (who we’ve known for several years) provided the following explanation:

An OBC is an “on-board” credit to your ship-board account, and therefore, you will not receive the OBC until you are officially “on-board” the ship. It usually takes from 24 to 48 hours for the ship and the Celebrity HQ in Miami to confirm (via batch data transmissions) who is “on-board” the ship and what “on-board” credits are to be applied to what accounts.

However, always bring any documentation (such as emails from TAs or RCCL’s Investor Relations) that promises an OBC.

  7. In order to access your “home” internet provider (Verizon.com) from a cruise ship, you must first access the ship’s internet access portal (provider). You do this by purchasing “access minutes” from the ship’s provider that will be charged to your SeaPass card. You would need to go the” Celebrity ILounge” on the ship and establish an account. You can purchase “packages” of minutes for “x” number of dollars.

Check the FAQ section of the Celebrity website for further information and costs.

  8. If you decide to use mobile phone service on the Summit, the following is applicable:

The cellular service on all Celebrity ships, with the exception of the Reflection and the Silhouette, is provided by a satellite cellular company called Wireless Maritime Services, LLC (WMS) -- www.cellularatsea.com/. On Reflection and Silhouette the service is provided by On-Waves -- www.on-waves.com/. For text messages, these carriers charge 50 cents to send a message and 5 cents for each message received. These carriers also charge $2.49/minute for voice calls – both sending and receiving. Verizon and AT&T will re-bill these charges to your account, in addition to any usual Verizon or AT&T charges.

  9. To AmberCascades: The individual you described is an Assistant Maitre D” who is responsible for the day to day operation of assigned restaurant section(s) or buffet operations of the ship, and supervises the guest’s service staff (dining) personnel (waiters, assistant waiters, and related personnel). The Assistant Maitre D” directly reports to the ship’s Head Maitre D” and indirectly to the ship’s Restaurant Manager. According to Celebrity’s employment position description, the Assistant Maitre D” is responsible for the following:

    · Ensures the efficient and cost effective running of Restaurant Operation as per company budgetary guidelines

    · As per company standards, ensures guest’s satisfaction at all time with their table assignments, overall service at the restaurant (s) or Buffets

    · As per guidance from the Restaurant Manager, ensures that all crewmembers in the Restaurant receive a complete familiarization and training in their positions and are made aware of the company service standards and the vessel’s rules and regulation.

    Hope this helps

  10. Smoking areas on the M-class shipsConstellation and Infinity - include the following locations:

Deck 10 (Resort Deck mid-ship) – Port-side only – outside between the Buffet (Waterfall Café/Grill) and the Pool Bar

Deck 4 (Promenade Deck mid-ship) – Port-side only – outside between restaurant (Cosmopolitan Rest.) and Celebrity Theatre

This is based on personal cruise experiences on the Constellation TA in Oct/Nov 2014 and the Infinity (S. American cruise) in Jan/Feb 2015.

Smoking areas on the S-class ship Reflection include the following locations:

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port (left)-side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is “officially” permitted

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

.Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

This is based on a personal cruise experience on the Reflection TA in Apr. 2015.

  11. Smoking areas on the S-class ship Reflection:

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port (left)-side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

Deck 14 (Lido Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside next to the Pool Bar

.Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

  12. To the OP, the info you are quoting is, at least, 2 years out of date. As other posters have stated, there is No Smoking anywhere indoors and smoking in cabins and on verandas is prohibited. The following identifies the smoking areas on S-class ships (except Reflection) as of May 2014.

  13. The correct name for the side-to-side motion, usually felt at the stern of a ship, is YAW. In an enclosed space, like an aft cabin on any cruise ship, even moderate yaw can cause a “queasy” stomach in experienced sailors, especially when combined with the “normal” pitch and roll of a ship. A cabin that is mid-ship to forward will in most cases experience less yaw.
