Depends when you booked. They recently re-categorized suites and minis.  On the new ships more for the bigger balconies.  The OS on new ships now DOS.  On older ships, deck 10 OS more than 9 but that was prior to most recent change.  Trying to squeeze out what they can.

I must have lucked out because I only booked 2 weeks ago.  Good information to know.  🙂

  2. I've booked this cabin for an upcoming cruise but can't seem to come up with any accurate photos of it.  I'm worried that I'm not getting what I need which is space for our family of five.  It seems that the Joy changed cabin categories at some point?  Does anyone have photos or video of the Haven 2 Bedroom with Large Balcony?

    Thanks. 🙂

  3. We aren't loyal NCL cruisers but we have a fair amount of FCC to use as I had purchased lots of extras for our cancelled cruise and the sailing was for my family of five.  We used the FCC to give us a chance to try the Haven.  We are hoping to be WOWed into not straying from NCL again.  However we are loyal to price and ship amenities.  NCL and Carnival have been our go to cruiselines as they make it easy to search pricing for families of five... soon we will have the option of sailing any line as our oldest will be out of the house... when that comes any line could tempt us.

  4. It has been our experience that when we have sailed in a family oceanview with our family of five, the beds are not placed back into a sofa every day but rather remain made up as beds throughout the entire cruise.  We recently rescheduled our March cruise for next March and splurged on a Haven Family 2 Bedroom.  I'm curious if I can anticipate the room made up every day and the sofas returned to seating areas?  I'm not terribly concerned about the second bedroom but it would be a disappointment to have the living room set up as a bedroom for the entire cruise.  Thanks.

  5. We've done a dozen cruises with our family of five.  The boys are now 16, 14 and 13.  We've sailed in single inside cabins, ocenaview, balcony as well as suites and the odd connecting cabin.  In March, we will sail for our fourth time in a Family Oceanview on NCL.  We don't find them too bad, price is a huge factor for us.  We are dealing with a poor Canadian dollar and would personally rather vacation more than once a year so we'll make do with cramped quarters.  Having said that, the Family Oceanview space is ample.  We make it work by packing light and staying organized in the cabin.  We also don't spend much time in the cabin either, we really only use it to sleep in the evening and take the occasional nap.

We are very conscientious of the deals that are out there... our upcoming cruise we booked about 18 months in advance for $5800 Canadian for the five of us incl the drink package.... we thought that was a great deal but then there was another drop and we ended up with a final price of $5000.  So keep watching your price after you book.

  6. Our last embarkation on the Breakaway was an absolute nightmare because of a half-marathon in NY that morning. Hours of sitting in traffic, long lines outside at the port, basically complete chaos. We are hoping that this experience was only because of the marathon. This year the half-marathon takes place on our debarkation day.

We have a 9:30 arrival and like to be among the first to arrive at the port. We will parking at the port. I'm wondering how early we can arrive and if we should expect to have to wait outside in the cold for a fair bit?

I'm also wondering if anyone has any thoughts on our debarkation timing with the half-marathon being in NY that day? Should we carry off our luggage and be one of the first off or hang tight and exit last? We have to drive about 7 hours home that day.

  7. We were last at GSC in March 2015. They had a great slide for the kids at the time and I'm sure we pre-purchased passes online prior to the cruise but I don't see it as an option online. Is it still there? Also does anyone have a price list for the items not listed online like floats and clamshells?

  8. Last time we sailed the Breakaway in March, we had no issue getting Vibe passes quite possibly because it was pricey for the days you lost with the colder weather days heading in and out of NY. I'm wondering if it has been the same experience on the last few sailings as well? With three boys, I have very little time to relax and I hate spending it looking for a lounge chair when I finally get a few moments to myself. :)

  9. Good Morning!

I'd like to permit my children to have a bit of spending money for the arcade on the cruise. I see that I can buy OBC certificates and assign them to the children. They won't have charging privileges except for these OBC certificates. I'm wondering if that would work to limit their spending and allow them a bit of freedom in the arcade?

    Any experiences helpful.

    Thanks.

  10. Thanks everyone. After the number of the cruises that we’ve been on, I understand that they are strict about ages but their own information was very vague. It also seems to be saying that if your 12 year old is registered for the Club then it is because they need ‘additional’ supervision. The wording is very odd. I would assume that most children attending the kids club would be doing it to meet friends rather than because they need extra supervision.

  11. I just noticed this on the NCL FAQs...

If a 12-year-old is registered for Splash Academy, it is understood that 12-year-olds need special attention and programs; therefore the Dolphins Youth Counselors offer more mature games/theme nights and schedule Entourage Take-Overs allowing the Dolphins to enjoy the lounge, video games, air hockey, foosball, music videos and much more.

In addition, whether registered for Splash Academy or not, the 12 year olds are invited to attend some of the Teen Counselor hosted activities* that take place outside of the Entourage Teen Lounge.

*These activities are not part of the Dolphin drop off program and the 12 year olds can come and go as they please. Please check with the Teen Counselor for activities and time slots. The schedule may vary per ship and itinerary.

Has anyone had any experience with 12 years olds in Entourage? I will have a 12 year old and a 13 year old on our upcoming cruise (also an 11 year old) and I know that it is unlikely that they will go to the kids club but the 12 year old might go to Entourage with his older brother if he has the option.

  12. It depends on what part of the NCL site that you are reading. I just checked and found...

Traveling with Minors and Young Adults:

Norwegian Cruise Lines policy dictates that a minor or young adult under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a guest 21 years of age or older at the time of boarding. (in the FAQ section) - LINK

    ...and I also found...

Traveling with Minors and Young Adults:

Norwegian Cruise Line’s policy dictates that a minor or young adult must be accompanied in the same stateroom (or connecting stateroom) by a passenger 21 years of age or older at the time of boarding. (in the Required Travel Documentation section) - LINK

...and the Guest Ticket Contract has...

© Guests under 21: Any Guest under 21 years of age is considered a minor. Any Guest under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same, connecting, or side by side stateroom by a Guest 21 years of age or older at the time of embarkation who expressly agrees to be responsible for the under 21 Guest throughout the cruise. - 04/17 - LINK

...so, it's understandable that there are mixed results and answers.

Thank you. I was searching on my phone and could only find the one. Too bad it won't work out for us but we'll just have more cramped quarters.
