  1. If you look on the Trip Advisor all other reviews are good. I would call them, tell them you are single and was worried about the review, the hotel is nice, beach so so but as stated good for a swim.

Thanks. I'll do that. I just wanted to get any past guest's similar experience before I called and on the off chance get an indifferent employee who says it's not true, then arrive the evening before my cruise to be shown to a room without a lock.

  2. I am on the 11/30 Wind Surf sailing from St. Maarten and have one pre-cruise night booked at Holland House in an ocean view/front room. I'm sailing solo.

This weekend I read the most recent review on TripAdvisor and the author stated, along with an AC problem, that the room doors did NOT lock and that though "many patrons complained" the problem was not fixed.

Has anybody else experienced a room at HH in which the door did not lock? If so, I would like to cancel my reservation and book someplace else.

    Thanks!

  4. It is either in or headed to dry dock. We were on Sept/Oct and after it finished Europe was going for big overhaul including furnishings, carpet, etc and improved wifi just to name a few things. Lucky you going on right after that.

Really? I hope that's it! Unless we're guinea pigs with an entirely all new crew. BUT then again, that would beat sitting in an office for 50 hours a week!!!

  5. Have a look at the marine traffic web site

Thanks! Good idea! I might have thought of that myself if I hadn't been on just my first cup of coffee!

Right now it looks like it's docked in Spain.

Couldn't find an answer to where it will be for the month of November or where it's coming from before arriving in St Maarten the end of November.

Doesn't really matter, I just sometimes have an overactive sense of curiosity.

  6. I'm on the 11/30 Wind Surf sailing. I was on the WS website this morning and it hit me that I wondered where the ship was coming from prior to my departure date. When I did a search of the fleet for the entire month of November and what's left of October Wind Surf doesn't show up at all. The first date appearing is the 11/30 date. I figured for November there was an early European (or other area of the world) sailing followed by a trans-oceanic trip to St. Maarten.

Could it just be that the earlier November sailing(s) are sold out so they're just not showing up in the search?

  7. This wasn't a cruise but about 10 years ago I traveled alone to Hong Kong. Had a great time. Of course I overpacked and when I packed my suitcase to return to the U.S., I had additional items I purchased and I literally sat on it to get it zipped. As soon as I got through the entrance doors of the airport I was approached by a uniformed official, even before I had checked in, questioned about where I had been, where I was going, why was I traveling alone, etc. He asked to look through my suitcase (large suitcase) and I told him I had to sit on it to get it closed. He said he would help me get it closed again and proceeded to lie it on the floor, right in the middle of everyone, and went through everything. He did close it back for me. In the U.S. I may have made a stink about it but I don't when I'm alone in a foreign country.

Something similar also happened to me at Charles deGaulle in Paris and upon return once to the Port of Miami. I'm just never surprised when it happens and I keep my cool.

  8. As I'm sure you know, "the patient" CAN authorize a medical provider to disclose certain specifics to *anyone*.

I don't know if the staff at their doctor's office are confused or just being uncooperative (but why?).

Perhaps you could FIRST go ahead and send in your parents' medical insurance claim forms completed by the physician with your claim, with an explanation (one that also might bewilder them!).

Then you'll have started filing the claim in a timely manner.

Then IF that's not satisfactory, you could have your mother call her physician's office, with you nearby, and tell them that you are bringing over a letter of permission to complete the entire medical form, and that she expects them to do so.

(It would be a different problem if the patient didn't want to disclose the info, but at least you aren't in that situation.)

I KNOW my mother doesn't like to cause waves and is probably not being forceful enough with them. She understands the situation I'm in and gladly signed a medical records release for both her insurance company and mine.

Although I'm not wealthy, if I had only paid several hundred for my cabin, I may let it go just to not have to deal with the headache of the claims process, however, I booked a solo cabin, with balcony, and it was getting close to the $2,000 mark. Plus I booked a one-way ticket to the cruise port because I was going to drive home with them - helping my father with the driving.

I guess before I take any more action, I'll wait and see what kind of hoops the insurance company tries to make me jump through.

  9. In August I booked a cruise for my 80 year old parents, which was actually supposed to begin tomorrow. Later, when my work calendar freed up a bit, I decided to book myself on their cruise, not tell them, and show up and surprise them.

Because of their age (they are in excellent health) I purchased them a good trip insurance policy, which cost close to $350 for the two of them. After I booked mine I also bought a different policy for myself with a different company than theirs. Mine did cover immediate family emergency situation cancellations.

Well, of course, 10 days ago my mother fell and broke a hip. She did undergo surgery and was hospitalized for three or four days. She is now getting PT at home. I cancelled their cruise a day or two after the incident. When I saw how necessary it was going to be for me to help take care of her (shopping, some cooking and cleaning, etc.) I cancelled mine.

At her orthopedic surgeon's office this morning, they completed the insurance company Physician's Authorization form for HER insurance but refused to fill the form out required by MY insurance company because they said it "violates HIPAA regulations." My mother offered to sign any form at their office to allow them to complete the form but they still wouldn't.

I would not have even told them about my surprise if it wasn't for the fact I needed my mother to get my claim form filled out by the doctor. She cried when I told her.

I placed a call to my insurance provider a little while ago, was on hold for 20 minutes, then cut off. I then sent an e-mail and received an automated response that they would get back to me within the next 24 to 48 hours. I asked them if a copy of the physician's form the doctor's office completed for my mother's insurance company could be substituted for theirs. I'm not sure they'll go for that. I also asked what the alternative is in a situation like that.

I intend to call them again in a bit but wanted to try and get any responses from others first that have experienced similar occurrences and how it may have been resolved.

    Anybody???

    Thanks.

  10. Hmmm......I booked my first Windstar cruise (Wind Surf) on Saturday (yipeee!!), after a few years of trying to coordinate my schedule with their schedules. At that time the agent told me that I should go on the website and look at shore excursions, transfers, etc., and book anything I'm interested in. You would think she could have given me that information at the time.

My sailing is at the end of November so of course I had to make full payment. Because an earlier post stated that somebody that works in "IT" thought something else was going on, I hope they aren't experiencing some kind of financial problem. I haven't purchased travel insurance yet, but planned to do so today, but if I recall correctly from past plans purchased, I believe if a travel provider goes insolvent within at least 90 days from purchase, it's not covered. Hopefully I'm not the cause of any RUMOR getting started. If Windstar has an individual who will occasionally post something on CC, as some other lines do, it would be helpful if they would post a short explanation.

Do you think they may finally be updating their system to allow passengers to book on their own cruise online? I definitely think they should, and I could see how that might take some time.

I attempted a couple of months ago to get a quote through one of their call center representatives but finally gave up. I think she may have been new, but I was either not getting a response or getting a quote for the wrong ship on the wrong sailing date. The person I reached this time, was much more competent. I have booked at least 14 cruises online in the past and find it so easy.

  11. While I'm not married, I can relate. I have been on 10 or 11 cruises solo, a couple with my grandson, and a couple with my sister. While I dearly love my grandson and sister, I enjoy my solo cruises much more than the ones with them. I always get a balcony and spend most of my time there reading and gazing at the sea. I can eat what I want whenever I want. I've closed the curtain and made it dark, ordered room service, watched a movie and napped, with nobody to make me feel lazy or guilty. I've met some nivce fellow cruisers but prefer to remain a loner. I've never felt unsafe or lonely. I LOVE solo cruising - and travel in general - soloed to Hong Kong, Italy, France, Mexico, and some islands too. I see way more solo females than men, and I know more women who have, or would, go solo than I know men. Not sure why, just my personal experience. I really do feel a little sorry for people who would never in a million years think of traveling solo. Sure, some wouldn't like it if they tried it, but many would!!

    DO it!!!

  12. Welllll.....unfortunately my surprise on my parents will not happen on October 22nd. My mother fell and broke her hip yesterday and had to have surgery. Her surgeon has said she will absolutely not be traveling for quite a while.

Now I have an insurance question before I cancel MY own cruise. When I booked for them well before I booked for my surprise on the same sailing, I bought them good insurance from an outside company. When I booked mine later, I also bought a good insurance policy. Will MY cruise fare be refunded, with proper documentation of course, or should I plan on going without them?Am I, as an adult daughter, considered immediate family and covered for cancellation? I deleted my policy and the hard copy is at work in my desk drawer and I may not be able to get to the office over the next few days.

I have cruised solo several times, but booked this one just to spend some time with my parents, so I really would like to cancel if possible. I don't have the heart to tell her about the planned surprise until she's feeling better. I guess I have no choice but to tell her so she can get her doctor to complete the certification form for the insurance company. Otherwise I might save my surprise with hopes to use it in the future. Thanks!

  13. Hmm... Wonder what that will mean for ships heading back to Port Canaveral next Saturday... Might be a rough ride!

If the path stays as they're predicting right now, I was thinking the same thing. Looks like currently some forecasters are predicting Friday and Saturday off the coast of northern Florida and the Carolinas. I know storms like that can change direction quickly though.

Will be following because my sister is on Magic right now, due to return to Port Canaveral next Saturday.

  14. Early Grey isn't free anymore. Only Lipton and Green Tea. At least that's the way it is on Glory. I bring my own.

I'm not really a complainer since everything everywhere is always going up and up BUT charging for Earl Grey (my favorite) and Green tea seems pretty petty to me. I drink different brands of Earl Grey and 90% of them are manufactured in the same place as Lipton tea.

  15. One night at an adult comedy show on a Breeze cruise a woman on the front row had a couple of children approximately 8 to 10 years old, so I guess they did allow them in. Early in the show the comedian was coming to the end of a punch line when he stopped and said to the audience that he usually uses the "f" word there, and in many other places, but there were young children in the room. He asked the audience's opinion about whether he should not use the word or if the parent should just take the children and leave. The room erupted in shouts of "use the word!" or "take the children out!" so he continued on with his routine and used it several times. I guess I was not that surprised the mother stayed there with her children through the whole show because I'm sure it's a word they had heard before BUT there was also MUCH more adult content regarding sex, etc., than just the "f" word.

  16. I've booked all of my 14 or 15 cruises, on various cruise lines, directly on their websites. Have never run into any glitch or problem doing so. However, and unfortunately, I am a major control freak and would probably have a breakdown if I ever gave up that task to somebody else.

  17. I definitely don't need my cabin cleaned twice a day...although it's nice to have it done that way on vacation. However I DO and WILL mind on my October cruise if I don't get ice in the morning and again in the evening. I plan on letting my steward know that once a day cleaning is fine but I would like twice a day ice.

If there is an ice machine nearby where I can get free ice when I want, I also don't have a problem with that. Somebody yesterday mentioned perhaps I could get ice through room service. The only problem I have with that is tipping $3 each evening which would result in approximately $21 for ice over the week. Sorry....not happening.

I haven't pre-paid my gratuities yet (although until this topic came up yesterday I had planned to) and if my steward does not provide me with ice twice a day as requested, as much as I really would HATE to do it, as I'm usually an over-tipper, it will reflect in his/her tip at the end of the cruise. I know the implementation of once-a-day service is not the steward's fault, but it would be his/her fault if my desire for twice a day ice is ignored.

  18. Princess actually scans your card and knows who has been there and actually has a follow up for those who missed it lol

That's how they did it on my last NCL cruise. They also said anybody that didn't have their card scanned had to go through the process the next day, even if they were there but neglected to get the scan. I don't know how or if they did that because I didn't hear the muster blasts at anytime the next day.

  19. All the more reason to do self-disembarkation. All good, I think it's going to be trivial. Maybe I can sneak off with you Platinum folks?

Isn't that a little (as you liked to tout in your posts in the Swim Diaper threads), people 'not obeying the speed limit' but getting upset over others disregarding ship rules and allowing children in the water in diapers?
