I was on stanley few years ago in january, we went to see pinguins, the war museum and walked around the city which is very interesting. We got good weather in the morning and chilly winds in the afternoon. We had good and decent fish and chips in a small restaurant downtown.

Good beaches in Salvador and Recife are outside the downtown one hour or so by car. Both cities have great historical areas. Crime is a problem everywhere in Brazil, stay safe without jewrels, big cameras and a lot of cash. Keep cell phones in your pocket and avoid using them everywhere. By doing so probably you will be safe.
Cabe Frio (cold cape) has gorgeous beaches cristal clear waters, but cold.

Rio port is just in downtown, walking distance to some of main attractions. Should you have just one day, hire a private guide to do sugar loaf, Christ and some other main spots.

David, São Paulo is the biggest city in Brazil as well as the financial center. You have hugde commercial buildings with very interesting skyline and architecture. São Paulo has a good collection of museums plus top restaurants and some historical buildings. Nearby Santos you have Guaruja with beautiful beaches (nice than Santos itself). Santos is the biggest port area in Brazil a lot of traffic around.
Should you be interested in soccer, in Santos you can find Pele Museum. And the Coffee Museum is also interesting.

Hi JP, indeed a long ago, but we are considering going on Silver Cloud, Reykjavik to Reykjavik - August 2019!
Currently we are booked on the Amsterdam-Dublin on May 2019, but we are discussing a change. May be we will be in the same cruise. At this time we are going with our daughter and son in law!
Fletcher, in Lima we are staying at Novotel, not fancy but we have points to redeem, so it is a good value for us.
Fletcher, in 2016 we went to Cartagena and stayed at Hotel Sofitel Legend Santa Clara which is an antique monastery. It has a great pool. Be prepared for the hot weather!

Is there skip the line tickets for the main attractions? I read somewhere that the bus tours on Moscow and St Petersburg take all day long. Can you comment on that?

I would do Via Australis or Mare Australis which are very good ships and in my opinion. Better than Skorpions.
