  1. One fun thing they did was a slide show of all of the past and present Carnival ships. Everyone cheered when a ship they had sailed on came on the screen.

I've seen that video a time or two ;)

Did they still have afternoon tea? We always enjoy that.

  2. Cruises less than 5 days will not have a party. On other cruises 5 days and up, there is the party for Gold VIFP's and up.

    OP-

The day can vary, but it seems that on a Sunday-Sunday cruise, the party is usually around Thursday. An invitation will be left in your room the night before. I know this isn't much help for planning purposes, but best I can tell you.

Hopefully someone who was on a recent 8 day southern Breeze cruise will chime in and tell you when their VIFP party was.

Know what, maybe they did. I might be confusing it with the farewell party. We enjoyed those just as much, if not more. My wife always got up and danced. She had a ball dancing with Wee Jimmy.

Hmm our last cruise was 4 days but, 2 years ago was 7. No party. Was eastern on the Conquest.

  4. We had him on our first. He was great.

One of our ports was Cozumel. The wife and I found a little place to eat (La Choza) and he was there having lunch. He came over and asked if we were on the Legend. We were. After that it was like he was always around the rest of the cruise. Made it that much more memorable.

  5. We got off the Ecstasy on the 31st with our 18 month old. They had 1 day of under 2 Camp Carnival she was able to go to. No water play though, which worked out fine as I don't swim and my wife... Couldn't.

We really enjoyed the ship and had great fun with her as did a lot of the staff, including the captain who visited her on multiple occasions.

It was only a 4 night run though so it doesn't quite match some of you're criteria.

  6. Last year we were in St. Thomas well after dark and staying in Cozumel until 10 in a few weeks. I'm sure we'll be on board by 5 or so though. Not really interested in exploring nightlife in an unknown area when any issues could cause major headaches later on, especially with a kid tagging along.

  7. I live in SW Florida. We've had a few scares but, that's all they were.

I work for the local hospital and we've taken great measures to prepare for the situation should it occur. Thus far, nothing.

Hopefully it remains that way, however, with the number of tourists we "host" each fall / winter the possibility is very real.

With that said, wash your hands after you touch just about anything and learn the facts about how it's spread. The CDC website is a good starting point to learn about the epidemic and how to keep yourself safe.

  8. Parking fees in downtown and Miami Beach can make this tough.

Hampton Inn Mary Brickell - lots of shops and dining options in a fun area of downtown, and they have a parking garage (and a cruise parking deal if you are interested).

Yeah, parking fees are one reason I want to park and have things close by so we don't have to move the car any.

Will look into that Hampton Inn.

We also (briefly) discussed taking a bus over. It's $100 round trip so that would kill parking fees and traffic headaches plus times out pretty well BUT I don't know if we want to go that route or not.

  9. Hi all, my wife and I live near Fort Myers and are cruising from POM late October. Last time we left the morning of but this time we'd like to head over a day early.

Will likely park at the port for security and ease when we leave so I don't need a parking package from a hotel... Although, since we will arrive at the port before noon on a Monday, I don't know how traffic will be.

We'd like to stay somewhat close to the port BUT someplace that's kid friendly, has things to do and see nearby and someplace

Close (walking distance) for dinner / breakfast.

    Ideas?

  10. Was on the same. Pretty much mirror your comments. We did eat in the MDR every night and caught several comedy shows. Didn't care for the Lady but "Pat" was great. The two earlier in the week focused on bathroom humor and it got old.

Loved te Government Shutdown band. Weater sucked,

I got sick once even with meds. Was bummed about Nassau but no big loss I hear.

All in all it was less memorable but still enjoyable.

  11. We always used to prepay $50 per person per day. Usually got a nice check back at the end.

This time - after not cruising for 2 years, I got the gift card but noticed the no cash refund bit so I only got $500 - 2 ppl 7 days. If we need to add more, fine. If not - that's ok too.
  12. Have an awesome time with the surprise. When the kids were a bit younger we loaded them all up one day for a family vacation to Florida. We weren't telling them where we were going. So we were going to pull into the beach but we had to make a Pitt stop around Gainsville and they saw a license plate and exclaimed "we're at Florida".

Now we live "at" Florida lol.

  13. Here are some new photos from yesterday's departure. It is taken from the beach this time with the ship entering the Atlantic. We had some awesome waves! :D

I like the waves on this. Good exposure for only 1/20th too. I struggle to find a good enough balance of exposure but also a nice misty water scene as too long of a shutter overexposes everything but too short does not do much for the water. I assume too long would have also blurred the ship to much and HDR is out as.. well, it's moving ;)

  14. Does anyone know how many carbs/day I need to keep below to keep the stick purple? That sounds so wierd to write, but I was purple and now I'm a ligh purple or pinkish. I want to stay motivated.

I think the rule of thumb is 20g or less per day. You can gradually increase it after the first few weeks but there is a whole method to follow. I suggest picking up one of the books or checking out an atkins diet forum for lots of good tips etc.
