  1. Royal Caribbean doesn't want EVERYONE to buy a package. It's fine with them that some, even many, do not.

They offer it, it is a marketing device (so many people out there whining, "Celebrity has a package, why doesn't RC? They're the same company!), and a passenger can take it or leave it.

Huh? You seem to take issue with observations, comments, etc.

Some folks are merely posting some potential concerns about the possibility of requiring both guests to purchase package when one does not drink.

    That's all--no more, no less.

By the way, Celebrity does NOT require all passengers to partake in alcohol package.

    Relax.....

  2. My partner is allergic to alcohol...sucks to be her :p If she brings a doctor's note, does anyone know if they will allow me to buy the package for just myself?

There has to be an allowance for those that flat out don't drink. And the older I get, the more and more we see people everywhere we go that simply do not drink--period.

My DH hasn't drank since 1986. He could care less if I do--he just doesn't.

Well, if that is truly the case, there is a percentage right there that won't buy the package.

Seems a little odd given how many adults (especially as the population ages and many must abstain due to a myriad of readons).

  3. Dawn,

wow, someone else who likes their coffee Hot. I can't even find a coffee maker to buy, for home, that makes it hot enough for me. I always have to pour my coffee, and then put it in a microwave for at least a minute. Of course I do use cream, so it really has to scalding, then I add the cream, and hope it's still HOT enough.

If a drink, whatever it is, is supposed to be hot, then I want it super Hot. If it's supposed to be cold, I want it super Cold. That means added ice, Always. I don't care that it's cold streight from a fridge, I want ice added. LOL

I also like my soup served Hot. Nothing worse than luke warm soup.

Other than all this, I'm not too Fussy about things. :D: :D:

Except I don't like deep roast, dark, strong, coffee, and wish with all my heart that the ships would "weaken" their coffee just a little.

Since McDonald's changed their coffee to that dark roast crap, I now take my own coffee along to McDonald's. Which isn't very often anymore. They used to have such delicious coffee.

After many years of making my am coffee with my single cup malia (never used coffee pot) from boiling water from tea kettle, I finally bought a Keurig coffee maker. The thing that pushed me to do it was this model had a temperature adjustment--yeah.

I have it turned up to 192 and it is perfect.

And, even though we don't partake often, when we do get french fries--yep--you guessed it--hot, hot, hot or no thank you!

  4. I agree about not having coffee makers in all staterooms and I am addicted to coffee. Right now I have five different flavored coffees from The World Market on my counter top.

We had plumbing problems on the Voyager a few years ago and when we called we told whoever answered the phone that we were very careful about what we flushed down the toilet. That person told us that the problem was with a cabin a few doors down from us and when one cabin had a problem there was a chance that several cabins would be affected.

So if someone decided to flush their coffee grinds down their toilet every day it will eventually caused several of their neighbors to have plumbing problems too.

My DH and I travel quite a bit. I also travel approx 50% for work.

I've taken my own coffee on just about every cruise and on all our land vacations--regardless what country we are visiting.

I only drink a really good cup of coffee every am, but i drink it black. That means no band-aids will disguise an awful cup of coffee (i.e., cream, sugar)

I have been using the melita one cup coffee system for over 20 years. You can buy this plastic coffee filter holder for less than $5 at just about any grocery store. You use #2 cone type filters. You can place this small contraption on pretty much any cup.

European coffee is so strong that have added half hot water to it to make it drinkable. Plus, i like half decaf, and i mix a lb of flavor with a lb of Sumatra or some other medium roast.

I have never even considered or for a second thought to put grounds in toilet! Who does that??? I doubt anyone would do that on a cruise ship.

I also like my coffee very hot....185 is good. No one I know drinks their coffee as hot as I will pass on the delivered hot water (never hot enough), and I haven't used a hotel coffee pot for nearly 2 decades (same reason).

I'm thrilled there is a hot water kettle in our room. We've never had one in any of our rooms on Princess, Celebrity or HAL. So this will be quite welcome and perfect for my one cup milita!

  5. I hope this was not already addressed, but I find it very odd that the immediate thought of many posters were to jump to the negative possibilities vs. positive ones. In fact, it didn't even occur to me that someone would use that feature to be selfish. Wow.

The only thought that occurred to me (until I started reading some of the threads blasting the poster) was, "great idea...for all the times that you are in an elevator that is COMPLETELY full, and you can't squeeze one more child--let alone an adult--but have to stop at every single floor and have a bunch of passengers run over to what they believe to be an available elevator, only to stare at everyone inside and all the folks on the elevator stare blankly back at the passengers waiting to get on."

Come on....I can't possibly be the only one that immediately thought this instead of some inconsiderate reason.

No glass half full folks out there?

  6. Smuggle alcohol into the MDR under a baseball cap! :D:D:D Sorry, had to throw in another hot-button issue joke! ;)

Serious question.....you mean you can't walk in with a drink that you still have that you purchased at a bar?

If that's the case, wow. I've been cruising on Princess and Celebrity too much if this is really the case.

    :/

  7. Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a DVD player or iPad to the in-room television set ?

We are leaving in two weeks on our cruise and were wondering if it was worth taking cables with us to hook up our iPad.

Getting really excited about our first ever cruise.

    Sven

Like my DH always says, "it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

It takes so little room too.

    :-)

  8. I asked my husband what he usually tips the porter with our cruise luggage and he said between $10 and $20. He said it depends on how far they come to get you or take you to your cab/car. We usually cruise for 14+ days so we have twice the luggage than you would for a one week cruise. He said he would never give them less than $10, as this is one transaction he'd prefer to add a little insurance on--ha!

  9. We had E729 on the Grand last year . All of the furniture inside is the same. I think the only difference is the balcony furniture is now metal instead of plastic because of the fire on the Star. We were able to get loungers for the balcony but that was the last time - we are now told they are a fire hazard.

However, one of the metal "chairs" actually reclines quite a bit and is very comfortable.

Thanks....I actually meant the furniture outside, not inside.

We were told that all we had to do was request loungers and they would be brought up for us. My TA (30 years in the biz) even contacted his rep @ Princess and I have it in writing that it won't be a problem. But we'll see. I provided him with information that basically stated that I may not be able to get it because of the fire incident on the Star and he shared that with his Princess rep and said it was ridiculous and simply not true.

But we'll see....do you have any pictures of your balcony from last year?

    Thanks....

  10. I can't believe you did that for us all....thank you!

We almost always get an aft balcony, but we didn't have the $$ for a full suite and the other aft balcony cabins on the Grand just don't give us enough interior space. I really wished there were minis on the back! Argh...it does appear from other posts that there are minis on the back of some of the other ships, but not the Grand.

I know we'll miss being aft, but I went ahead and booked E729 for us...we really like the sitting area for a 14 night cruise....we really don't like getting less than 250 sq feet of interior space...but I had to give up having an aft cabin though ):.

I can't find any recent pictures of E729...last one I saw was in 2003....some have said that none of the furniture is the same.

    Great job!!!!!

    Thanks!!!!
