I sure hope that's not the case.  I can only imagine how many pax, some from other countries, will get turned away.  That would be a terrible experience, one I sure don't want to have.

NCL needs get specific with their expectations/acceptable documents are concerned for potential cruisers.   If that's the case, I'd be cancelling all of my cruises.

I was one of the unlucky Canadians who had a mixed dose of Pfizer and Moderna. My original document states the fact and gives the lot number and type of vaccine.  If we ever get a official vaccine passport I wonder if it would reflect the same.  As things stand I am not fully vaccinated in the eyes of the FDA and NCL,  along with 2.6 other Canadians. No way around this now.

  2. We have three cruises booked with NCL and were happy to see that 100% vaccination was required.  Unfortunately the rules changed mid stream and we are forced to cancel. Mixed vaccines are common in Canada and I have a Pfizer / Moderna mix.  NCL allow a mix in other parts of the world but not into or out of US ports. Things may change down the road and we are reluctant to change cruise lines as we have a long history with NCL. All other cruise lines do accept a Pfizer / Moderna mix.

Does any one know if NCL is doing covid test at disinbarkment. I need a covid test within 72 hrs of flying back to Canada.

We are having to cancel as we can not meet the vaccine requirements.  My wife had two shots of Pfizer but I received one of Pfizer and one Moderna. Want cabin 17011?

I'm not a vaccine warrior but misinformation is aggravating.  I think you only read the poorly worded headlines.

    https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/who-warns-against-mixing-matching-covid-vaccines-2021-07-12/

Its too bad but the damage is already done as far as the misinformation goes.  Nothing changes the fact that a good number of us Canadians are not considered fully vaccinated in the eyes of others.

We have three cruises booked and unless things do a 180 we will have no choice but to cancel. Its not the end of the world but very disappointing as "rules" were changed midstream, any one want three Haven cabins ?

Or it just might have been the best strategy available at the time.  For whatever reason it has worked for us as a Country.  I doubt that cruising was a consideration in the decisions made as to vaccines available and administered.  My city in Canada currently has zero new cases and zero hospitalizations. You can’t argue with that success.  We had many land & sea trips cancelled over the last couple of years but thankfully we’re still on the green side of the grass:-).  But there is also no excuse for NCLs lack of communication to people who are going to be adversely affected by this new vaccine ruling.  As someone said in an earlier post what about all those who won’t see these postings?   NCL seems to be sorely lacking in communication skills.

Very true, it is possible to arrive have arrived a couple of days before the cruise in Rome, read the new protocols and not be able to board the ship.

After chatting with an NCL agent and thinking about my options as fully-vaccinated-with-AstraZeneca Canadian, I'm going to hold on to my November booking on the Joy until just before my final payment in September. I figure one of four things could happen between now and then:

    1. NCL updates their vaccination policy to recognize WHO-approved vaccines for sailings from US ports (fingers crossed!)
    2. The US FDA approves AstraZeneca so this issue becomes moot
    3. NCL cancels more sailings, including the first scheduled Joy sailings in November (hope not, but entirely possible)
    4. NCL drops their 100% vaccination requirement for cruises after October 31 (and I cancel anyway because that's the only reason I felt comfortable booking a cruise)

I did mention to the NCL agent that they really should make sure any Canadians booked on upcoming sailings are aware that AstraZeneca isn't being accepted as valid vaccination; at least my cruise isn't until November, my hotel is pre-paid but fully refundable and I haven't booked my flights yet... but I think a decent percentage of Canadian cruisers who AREN'T on CruiseCritic may be caught off guard by this.

I just called NCL. The agent was as helpful as he could be under the circumstances, suggesting I wait until just before final payment and see if any more updates come through. I do not think he was aware of the "new" regulations.

As our cruise is November and most policies are in place till Oct 31 we are agonizing over making final payment and seeing what happens, or cancelling and getting the deposit back as a Future Cruise Credit.

If there was a "our vaxx policies have changed, full refund if you don't like/qualify" option we'd exercise it immediately.

Our final payment is not due until the end of September, our shore excursions are paid and dining options booked. Looks like we will cancel too.

Really?  Many?  I've never heard of this.  Why would a medical person administer a second shot of a different vaccine?

Very common here and recommended by health care in Canada.  My wife had two shots of Pfizer I had one shot of Pfizer and one Moderna.

  9. Passengers on ships embarking or disembarking at US ports need to be vaccinated with FDA approved vaccines. Mixed Pfizer / Moderna double vaccine shots are not approved by the FDA.

All Other Vessels will accept any U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized single brand vaccination protocol. Or a mixed vaccination protocol of only Astraseneca-SK Bio, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna combinations.

This could be a problem as many of us have had one dose of each.

Just want to clarify that Epic, Bliss, and Getaway all have sailings listed for the Fall, but they seem the more likely be cancelled, because they are "old" listings, meaning they were not added as part of the "Return to Sea" plan... they are just old sailings that haven't been canceled yet.

The Epic is supposed to sail out of Rome to NY at the end of November. If the sailing is cancelled then she will not sail out of San Juan as expected.

I'm on the Epic for the Transatlantic trip to get her to San Juan.  It looks like she will go, or at least, it seems favorable.

We are on the same cruise, looks good right now. We are hopeful she will sail to NY, if not it will sure put the summer San Juan cruise in jeopardy.

I honestly think that's the case. When I talked to my TA she said that bc they haven't moved my final payment date that they're probably confident my sailing will happen.

It certainly is a possibility, our cruise is on the Epic from Rome to NY. If it does not sail it will certainly mess up the summer sailings on the Epic out of San Juan.

    When is your cruise?

My October Encore still shows final payment due 60 days in advance.  I believe that they revert to the 120 days out after October.

Correction:  the 60 day window closes on Dec 31.

Our cruise is out of Rome to NY at the end of November. Let’s hope it sails.

Up until earlier today, cruises scheduled to depart on November 1, 2021 or after have been subject to the final payment date of 120 days prior to departure.  I have followed this situation very closely, as we are NCL loyalists with 4 canceled cruises, FCC and more than a handful of Cruise Next Certificates,

Thanks for posting the link to the updated payment schedule and penalties @CaptainWoody.

It is a good move on the part of NCL.

We are scheduled on the Joy departing Miami on 11/27.  I noticed that our final payment has changed to 60 days prior to departure when looking at my reservation approximately an hour ago.  I was hoping that the final payment schedule would be adjusted so we could postpone making a decision on making that final payment.  It’s a welcome change for us.

Yes it changed in the last few hours. Good news and necessary, hard to plan 120 days ahead right now.
