  1. Last year on Voyager, I forgot to take my adaptor plug, I was able to borrow one from the Customer service desk for the duration of the cruise. They put a $25 charge on our account as a deposit and this was removed on the day we returned the plug. So there are other options to buying one on board. I would imagine they only have a limited supply of the plugs to loan out though.

  2. New Years cruises are the most expensive in the cruise calendar, and sell well.

The best thing with those cruises if you want them is just to take it when a package appeals - or you can wait til the next year and buy on release as that's generally the cheapest they are.

Yes, you are right. Hubby just told me to stop over analysing and comparing the details and decide if we are happy with the deal!

  3. Hi Deb, long time no see:p

We are booked on the Explorer for Xmas /New Year this year, 13 nights, NZ/ South Pacific. Booked an inside Cat N, $1400AUD each, booked about 12 months ago when the itineraries came out, prices are now around $3300:eek: for the same cat just to give you an idea on how they have increased. Looks like the Voyager is cheaper than the Explorer though.

No bells and whistles with our booking, no OBC or drink package, but we are about $4000 ahead at the moment which is crazy!!! I also purchased $1500 OBC for the 1:1 deal in case we want a drink package as it's the festive season:p Have also pre paid our gratuities when booking as we do Mytime dining.

    Lets catch up soon:)

    Hiya Chez,

We have been laying low and sorting out family stuff. Thank you for that info on the cruise prices! It certainly pays to book early sometimes. Would be lovely to catch up!

  4. We have been getting some quotes from a TA today for a Voyager cruise in Dec 2015. The price we have been quoted for an inside cabin is $2892.00 per person, this includes pre-paid gratuities and the Premium drinks package (the Royal Wine and Dine deal).

I have also gone direct to RCI website and the price for the same category cabin there is $2849.00 per person, this includes pre-paid gratuities, a $300 per person discount and $100 OBC. No drinks package.

For the extra $43 per person to get the drinks package, it seems like an alright deal to me, after reading through this thread tho I am questioning if I have missed something. Granted I don't know what the prices would be after the sale finishes...or what they were before the sale started.

  5. I was on the same cruise as TravelEEmpress and the company we used in Tokyo were great.

It is a shame that RCCL haven't got this right yet. Voyager is too tall to dock in Yokohama, she can't get under the bridge.

She will most likely dock at Oi wharf in Tokyo.

  6. Jason12 - something I didn't mention was you can buy an Ezi-Link card for $12 SGD, and it only $7 SGD on the card. After buying the card look around on a wall near where you bought the card and you will see a machine that looks like an ATM, but say "Top Up". Make sure you have SGD dollars on hand, then just follow the "easy" instructions, it will tell when to put the card in, then ask how much you wish top us, etc, etc,

Also get an MRT map (small enough to go in your shirt pocket), walk over to the platform you will travel on to your destination, place the Ezi-Link card against the reader, it will recognise which station you got on, it will open its gate allowing you to pass through, then when arrive at your selected station, you pass through the exit gates, and reader beeps & lets you know how much the journey cost, usually only a few Singapore dollars.

There are plenty of lit up MRT journey maps inside each train. This is one of the safest, convenient, air-conditioned trains in the world.

Thanks for the advice, very helpful. we will be arriving in Singapore on Sunday night and plan on using the MRT to get around to the various places we are going to visit.

  7. I like the shorter cruises, it gives us a chance to try out different cabins. Next week we are on a 3 night sampler on Celebrity Solstice and we are trialling an aft cabin.

We did see some drunks on a short 2 nighter on Rhapsody of the Seas a couple of years ago . They didn't annoy us much but you certainly knew they were there. And there is always lots of groups , hens nights etc.

  8. Both the gardens are on our must see list for our April visit. Last time, the Gardens By the Bay were still being constructed and we were intrigued by them, so definitely looking forward to seeing them now.

An early morning trip to the Botanic Gardens sounds like a nice idea too.

  9. Where do you live - sounds like HEAVEN! - some of us would pay money for that option (yes I know we can change the channel)

I watched the item and I think the husband has to take responsibility for what happened - sadly circumstances have changed for this couple and some things they used to be able to do are now no longer possible

LOL, I live on the mid North Coast of NSW in an area that is serviced by Prime television, so we get the half hour national news and a half hour local news instead of Today Tonight.

  10. I feel sad that this lady was left alone while hubby went ashore. I think Celebrity have done the correct thing. The family of the couple must surely realise this?

My mum has dementia and my dad cares for her. In January this year my hubby and I went on a cruise with them so dad could have a break and we were there to be with mum.

She always had someone with her and this was our responsibility, not for one minute did we ever think the ship or crew should look after her.

We don't get Today Tonight televised where I live, will have to look it up online after it has aired tonight.

  11. What did you do at Kitava? Which of the two K islands did you prefer?

    Barry

At Kitava you can walk to the village or to the lookout on top of a small hill near to the beach. Lovely views from there over the island and the sea.

Snorkelling, swimming, craft stalls were all enjoyed.

You could jump into a local canoe (5 kina)and be ferried to the smaller island not very far away and explore that one as well. Beach activities mainly, good snorkelling on the small island as well.

    Friendly locals.

We didn't prefer one island over the other, as we did different things on both islands and enjoyed each.

  12. We are also having a hard time getting back into post-cruise life. We had a fantastic cruise!

The ports were fabulous. I think the 're-enactment' of the Canoe and Kundu Festival in Alotau was much smaller than the real thing, but interesting anyway. Lots of groups doing their traditional dance etc.

On Kiriwina Island we had a local walk around with us and took us to some of the villages. He was wonderful and told us heaps about the village life and life on the island. We met his family too. The cricket was crazy! Lots of dancing demonstrations etc here as well. Swimming with the kids was great fun.

Kitava was lovely, relaxed and the locals ferried people to the smaller island off shore if you wanted for 5 kina each way.

Rabaul was great, we did a private tour that took us to many places and the volcano going off in the afternoon was quite a treat.

Doini Island was beautiful. The tractor was working, but there was one group of 14 who were taken up there and the tractor was very late to pick them up. The group were late back to the ship and were naturally getting worried. It was not possible for all the passengers on this trip to walk back due to the age of some of them.

The guest lecturer on board was very knowledgeable about the history of PNG and I enjoyed learning from him.

All up a great trip, weather spectacular, seas calm.

  13. About 2 weeks before I start segregating clothes for the cruise in my wardrobe, try them on if necessary and decide on shoes etc. I also start putting aside some of the bits and pieces I like to take along too (first aid kit, chargers etc) we have a large desk in our bedroom that is wonderful for this pre-packing. I am a chronic over packer, but unless I have to stick to airline baggage restrictions, I don't worry about taking too much!

Final pack into the suitcase is usually done the night before leaving>
