  1. We sail on 2/21 and I ordered the tags online as soon as they were available then again two weeks later when they hadn't arrived. Two more weeks went by and no tags. I called Captain's Club on Monday and they said they would arrive in seven business days. I have never had this issue with luggage tags before and have been ordering them online for years. Remember when you received a booklet in the mail with all your cruise docs and luggage tags. Technology is not always an improvement.

I had the same experience. Ordered twice online and nothing came. Finally called Captain's Club and received them in a week. Never had this problem before when ordering the tags online. So much for improving the website...

  2. I am home from my cruise and went with Silver Moon last week. It was

    a wonderful time:)

    Hi Lois,

We are going on this excursion in Feb. Can you describe a little more about the day's events such as lunch served, how many other boats in area, turtle sightings, and any other info so we know what more to expect?

  3. We have been on 8 Celebrity cruises and on the Solstice we were invited to sit at the Staff Captains Table. Usually we are in Concierge , but on this cruise we just went with a regular Veranda cabin. My Husband did not even bring a suit this time. Never had met the Captain Club's hostess and we don't hang out in Michael's Club. Why we happened to get picked of the 4 couple's invited have no idea. However they loaned my husband a tux jacket and I had a dressy enough outfit and we went on the first formal night and had a wonderful meal and fun time in a private room in Murano. We loved the experience even if we are never invited again. I think worth going if you get a chance!

  4. With two teenagers at home we each packed a bag. DW and I one each for the cruise and teenage son and daughter one each to go on a 2 week school field trip. All piled into the car and off to the airport. Dropped son and DW at the curb and they said they would check the bags. That they did - thru to the destinations.

The children arrived in Washington DC with our bags and we in San Juan with theirs! We did not notice until after we boarded. Did lots of shopping in Barbados. Learned teenagers were really different clothing. The good news is our son was about the same size as DW and myself so we did have interesting T shirts to wear. LOL

Had some really funny photos to share after we all returned to Arizona.

Imagine the horror on the poor teenagers faces when they discovered they had Mom and Dad's clothing instead of their's?! Would love to see those pictures!

  5. In Ketchikan if you want to see Misty Fjords by floatplane or see the bears during Salmon time then I would highly recommend private vendor Michelle of Island Wings. We just returned from Alaska in August and had a great experience with her. Check her company out on TripAdvisor and on CruiseCritic and you will see many positive reviews.

    Good luck with your plans!

  6. We just returned a few weeks ago from an August Alaskan cruise on the Solstice. Wonderful! Brent Nixon, the Naturalist, is terrific, food good to excellent, service wonderful, ship and cabin were ideal. We have cruised 11 times with 2 on Royal, the rest on Celebrity. Solstice is our favorite ship design.

August is nice if you want to see bears and salmon, which we did. Weather was rainy in 2 out of 3 ports and cool. Also enjoyed a beautiful sunny warm evening in Victoria at the Gardens, which is a plus to sail on Solstice.

Good luck with your choice! You will love Alaska!

  7. Hi Linda! You are doing a great review with your pictures! Nice shot of the back of my head in the floatplane too! Wasn't that a great bear trip and plane ride?! We had that same pouring down rain in Juneau, but took a whale watch and once we got out of town and on the Bay no rain! Then we returned to Juneau and pouring again. We had a fun dinner at the Red Dog too.

Glad to hear you did get to do the dog sled and glacier helicopter. We did that two years ago and loved our experience (in the rain, also).

You and my husband were the big photographers on the bear trip. A photographer's dream having all of those bears "pose" for you guys! You have some great shots! Thanks for posting the pictures.

    Ann

  8. Hi micruiser!

Yes we were the ones sharing the floatplane with you. I have a couple pictures of the back of your head and pink jacket:D. I will definitely be reading your report. I will be starting mine soon. I'm having trouble with downloading my pictures so I have to tweak a few things. The dog sledding was awesome except for the fact that it poured down rain the whole time. We got a lot of fish which we shipped home. We had some of the salmon Saturday night and it was amazing!

Will look forward to reading your report! It rained when we went dog sledding on a glacier two years ago too, but we still had a great time. Wonder how often that happens? How awesome to still be eating Alaskan Salmon that you caught!

  9. We also just returned from a cruise to Alaska on Solstice a couple of weeks ago. Love the ship and Alaska is amazing!

We booked private vendor tours with Michelle of Island Wings in Ketchikan (for bear viewing, but she does a wonderful tour of Misty Fjords too), Orca Enterprises in Juneau for Whale Watching and saw lots of humpback whales including two bubble-net feedings and took the 7 1/2 hour train/bus with Chilkoot Charters in Skagway to the Yukon. Very nice experience. Also, we did do one Celebrity tour to Butchart Gardens in Victoria where you can walk around the beautiful gardens independently for two hours.

Seattle is a nice area to check out too if you have never been there.

Hope you have a wonderful time!

  10. We just returned from an Alaskan cruise on the Solstice. We have been on a couple of Royal Caribbean cruises, but once we tried Celebrity ships we have not returned. The experience just seems nicer. It starts off as you enter the ship and they hand you a glass of champagne or mimosa. I am not much of a drinker, but it just sets the tone for a more upscale feeling. In our experience food is better, staff is great. The Solstice is our favorite ship for design of the cabins and it doesn't feel like a large ship (except at busy times in the Buffet!).

You will have a wonderful time on the Solstice and Alaska is amazing!

  11. We have tried most of them, but our favorite for food and service is Murano. It does have a feeling of a more formal dinner, but it always stands out as a favorite for food and service. Qsine is fun due to presentation of foods. Tuscan can be good, but has never been great and we had a poor server the last time. Silk Harvest is a nice experience and good food, but nothing great. Not tried Lawn Club yet.

  12. Hi! I think you guys were the ones to go on the floatplane and bear viewing with us! Glad to hear you guys had such a great time. I just posted our trip report under "Wonderful cruise on Solstice to Alaska". Isn't Alaska amazing?!

Did you catch lots of fish and go on the dog sled ride on the glacier as hoped? Looking forward to reading your review with pictures. My husband took over 2000 and still wading through them all so didn't post any.

  13. Thank you for this review. We leave on the last Solstice to Alaska on Sept 11. We have a few days prior in Seattle and I was wondering about your dinner in Bainbridge...where did you eat? would you recommend it and did you have a view of the Seattle skyline from there?

Glad you had an enjoyable trip! We are very excited to go!

    Cathy

I'm excited for you, Cathy! You will love the ship and the beautiful scenery in Alaska. If Brent Nixon is still giving his presentations try to attend at least some of them. Very interesting!

The ferry ride to Bainbridge is a nice boat ride and only about 1/2 hour one way. We walked down to the Marina from the town of Winslow (a short walk) to Doc's Marina Grill. The weather was nice and we ate outside. Good food and service and a great view of the boats in the marina, but no city view from there.

A few other restaurants that had great food that we enjoyed in Seattle were Cafe Campagne very close to Pike Place Market, Crab Cakes at Etta's Seafood and Chowder at Pike Place Chowder. Also, tiny cinnamon donuts at Daily Dozen Donuts for dessert (in Pike Place). Also in Pioneer Square area where Underground Tour is we ate at a little restaurant for lunch called Cafe Paloma on Yesler Way which was very good.

Hope you have a wonderful time in both Alaska and Seattle!

  14. We saw humpback whales from the ship several times. I got a whale tail picture while we were dining in Chops. (Radiance) we also saw Dall Porpoises.

We went to Traitors Cove when our Anan trip ( August 9) was canceled and we saw lots of bear catching salmon.

I think you were the two couples that we went with to Traitor's Cove with Michelle instead of Anan. I just posted my trip report. Hope you guys all had a great rest of your cruise too! Did you catch any fish?
