  1. @jpalbnythank you so much for all the great info, and your reviews are really helpful! The new Ponant ship looks amazing and I hope to be able to go someday. They have some great itineraries, too. But, since I wanted to see all of Svalbard, Iceland, and at least part of Greenland, I ended up finding my perfect itinerary on a Lindblad expedition for next summer!

I think determined by conditions and also if they can get the ship parked in a protected area.  Hiking is really the main activity offered most days.

Got it. As long as I get one iceberg kayak day in, I’ll be good. Thanks for the food info too! Sorry you won’t be able to join 😞 maybe I’ll get to meet your friends though. Just booked this afternoon!

  3. Thank you! I found a different Lindblad one that I think I'm going to sign up for. Hits Svalbard, Greenland, and Iceland so I can knock it out at once. It's certainly pricey but I'd like to see everything before it melts! Is kayaking determined by water conditions or they just don't offer it a lot? I assumed it'd be most days. This cruise is 15 days so hopefully more opportunities. I'd really like to kayak amongst icebergs.

  4. Thanks so much! The rotation of kayaking was also a concern I had. I’m not sure I want to pay double the price for only kayaking once or twice (though the location is of course once in a lifetime). It really would be nice if they just threw a few kayaks on! Anything else you can share about how Ponant and SS compare? Gearing towards solos and/or younger people, food, lectures, etc.?

  5. Hi all - I'm mid 30s and looking to do a solo cruise to the Arctic next year on either Lindblad or Silversea. Same number of days, but flights are included for a bit less on Silversea. I'm curious how the expeditions work (especially kayaking) and if they're guaranteed? Also, which is better for a solo traveler my age? I've heard Silversea leans like 60s+. TIA!

  6. Hi all - I'm looking into a solo trip next summer to somewhere in the Arctic (I'm in my mid 30s). Most likely Svalbard but potentially Greenland. Ponant has some excellent deals with no single supplement on a couple trips, but I don't see anything anywhere about excursions except for the Zodiac boats. What other Arctic excursions do they offer? Any kayaking or hiking? I'm also looking at Silversea and Lindblad, both of which are almost twice as much as Ponant but definitely have the excursions I'm looking for. Any insights? TIA!
