  1. Thanks everyone. I finally made it to the Voyage Personaliser and see my dining options. They put us at 8:30, but because of the show times we prefer 6, for which there is a wait list.

With the ship departing at 4:30, what would be a good time to board? We rented a car at Heathrow so we can get to Southampton at our leisure.

Also, the VP showed that we can purchase a wine package, but no other information. Someone mentioned to order by phone, but I sure would want to see the selection before buying. Where can I find that information?

Any other information helpful to a Cunard first timer would be appreciated.

  2. We just booked Queen Victoria for a British Isles cruise, May 12th and have a lot of questions. We have cruised with Celebrity (nice) and Royal (not so nice) and would like to know how Cunard is different. We booked a balcony room (BE).

We always booked an aft cabin but now have a forward cabin. Is there a big difference in feeling the ships movements? What is the best time is to board? Can we purchase a drink or wine package and/or specialty coffee? When booking it showed open dining (times?) but the confirmation gives us 6PM. Does Cunard have open dining times?.Does anyone have experience with the Cunard airline program? Can we pick our own flights?

Lots of questions and thanks for your help.

  3. We had to cancel this trip twice and were hoping to finally do the B to B from Ft Lauderdale via Valparaiso to Buenos Aires next year, but now we cannot find this itinerary on X website.

Anyone know if X still offers this?

  4. For years we checked Cruise TT, to find out what other ships were in port the same day we arrived. That way we could figure out how busy the port and tours would be. Lately, the Cruise TT information is lacking a lot. Several times, when we checked, there were no other ships reported to be in port, but upon arrival there would be several other ships. Yesterday I checked again, for Flam Norway and no ship was reported to be in port on July 8. Then I found out, the Queen Mary will be in port. Is there a better website for this info?

  6. You will love the Old San Juan, where the ship docks. There is so much to see, walking the Old San Juan streets. My favorite walk is the tree lined Paseo de la Princesa all the way to Castillo Del Morro. When coming off the ship into the street, turn left and take the tree lined Paseo to the fountain and continue under the city walls. You can also step through the city gates at La Puerta de San Juan and check out the hotel Convento in Calle Cristo. My favorite restaurant is Carli's Bistro, owned by a musician who used to play with the Beach Boys and plays the piano every night. The bartender, Fausto, makes the best mojitos and other cocktails and the Lamb chops are the best I ever had. The restaurant is close to the cruise terminal under the Banco Popular building. Enjoy!

  7. I have no problem with most kinds of music in concert halls, dancing venues and the like. But when I go out for dinner, I walk out of any restaurant with loud music, no matter what kind. I go to a restaurant to eat and hopefully have a nice conversation with my partners. One of the reasons I didn't like Princess (to Alaska), was the obnoxiously loud "one man band" at night in the bar area. You couldn't carry a conversation without having to shout. Never had that problem with Celebrity.

  8. I apologize in advance. I have tried to look for this answer, but my computer has not been cooperating.

When porting out of San Juan, what time is muster drill? We have a later flight than I would like and I just want to check before I book. It would be great to come in the day before, but finances don't allow.

    Thanks!

Not only are you cutting it very short with a flight on the day of departure, you would be missing the most interesting port of your cruise, San Juan. There are several lower budget hotels in the area, with prices around $100. Check Trivago.

  9. I would not have wanted to be on that ship for anything. It must have been a horrible experience for people with a week vacation, wasted in a scary ocean, instead of enjoying the Bahamas. At least they got a full refund and 50% towards a next cruise, unlike our experience with Royal with a week to Aruba and Curacao, which, due to (previously known) engine problems, never made it there. Our compensation was $150 and that was the last time I cruised with Royal.

  10. A passport, in and of itself, is not going to be required for domestic air travel. What is being required is identification that meets the requirements of the REAL ID Act. In most states, that will still be your drivers license. However, some states are opting not to comply with the REAL ID Act. Therefore, residents of those states will need to show a compliant form of identification in order to board a domestic flight. A US passport is compliant with the act, so it is one option for residents of those states.

Check out this link, finding your state of residence on the grid, to see how you might be affected: http://www.dhs.gov/real-id-and-you-rumor-control

The State Department clearly states that Real ID is NOT required until January 2018. Puerto Rico would be one of the States/Territories that is not in compliance so I can fly to any US destination, using my DL, until then. Here is the link: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/news/real-id-not-needed-for-domestic-flights-until-2018.html

  11. :)

You can use the "Search this Thread" feature if you are logged in to your Cruise Critic account.

    (1) - Click on the sticky link

M-Class Cabin Information Compilation - PLEASE - DO NOT POST CABIN QUESTIONS HERE!!!

    (2) - To the right of the blue horizontal bar, click on the middle option, Search this Thread

    (3) - It then displays an empty box.

Type in the cabin number you want, and click Go

For example, if I type in 6145 (the number of a popular sky suite) and click Go, it displays links to 8 entries for it.

It will display posts where that number is even mentioned, as well as posts where it is reviewed.

Not all cabins have been reviewed there, or even mentioned, so it may come back saying Sorry- no matches.

Hope you find this easy enough. ;)

Wow, I never figured that out, so I just gave up. Thanks.
