A few years ago on one of our cruises I got up in the morning and could not open the cabin door. It didn't matter what I tried, that door was not opening. I called maintenance and told them the problem. They said they would send someone right away. After waiting for about 10 or 15 minutes I called back. The person I spoke with put me on hold. When he came back on the line he informed me that the maintenance people were outside my cabin door but did not know what to do because I had a do not disturb sign on the door. I still crack up when I think of this.

On our 1/24 sailing the show was at 10:30 the first night.

I forgot to mention the Daytona 500. You will probably find it on TV in the sports bar behind the casino, or in the schooner bar. The area just beyond the schooner bar, as you walk into the safari club, also has two big TV's. Many sporting events, football, basketball, etc, were being shown.

We were at the port by 11:00am. No lines. Got right on and checked in. We were sitting by the pool at 11:20.
Dining in the main dining room was moved to 5:30 on this day only, due to the muster drill. The drill was at 8:00pm. Late seating was at 8:30.

Sand Castle is one of my favorite beaches. It is a small hotel, very near the cruise port. Round trip transportation is $6.00 per person. A van takes you and makes continuous trips throughout the day, The cost to rent an umbrella and two chairs is $20.00, but for $25.00 you also get two rum punches. When you are ready to return to the ship, just walk outside and wait. The van usually runs every 20 or 30 minutes.
I love the beach. You can snorkel or swim. There is also a small pool you can use. A restaurant and bar are also there. This is the one beach I always go to when in St. Croix.
The ship docks in Frederiksted so you can walk to the shops.
Have fun!

On our trip we visited Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, ST. Maarten and St. Croix. We did not do any excursions because we have visited these island before. We headed to a beach every day.
Barbados-Tiki Bar at Accra Beach
St. Lucia- The Lucian
Antigua-Friars Beach
St. Maarten- Mullett Bay
St. Croix- The Sand Castle
I was not aware of a drug bust.
Discounts for speciality dining were available on our embarkation day.
We did not have any shrimp cocktail. I asked our server and was told it was not available. I learned from another crew member that it was available on day 6 and 7 if you asked for it. It was not on any menu.
Freestyle machines were in the Windjammer.
I don't know if any coolers like Mike's hard lemonade are available.
Yes, the ship was much less crowded than usual. Many empty or half full tables in the MDR. On sea day, you could still find lounges at noon. Never thought I'd see that.
Hope this helps.

I sailed Jewel on 1/24. Just returned on Sunday. It was a wonderful cruise, loved our ports, and the crew was great. There were many people who did not make the cruise due to the winter storm that hit the east coast. Crew members said it was in the hundreds. Hope they had insurance.
If anyone has questions, if I can help I will be happy to respond.

My husband and I just got off the Jewel last Sunday. We were in an OV on deck 4. I wanted mid-ship, not too close to the Centrum. We were in cabin4032. I have sailed on Jewel before and had 4034 and 4036. These cabins have a window, deck 3 has a porthole. Our bed was under the window, I have no idea what cabins the bed runs parallel. Our cabin was on the port side. On the starboard side the numbers are 4532, etc. I love this location. It is quiet, yet easy to access everything. Have fun on your cruise!

Can anyone tell me the cost of wifi on Jewel and is it worth it? I would be using an Ipad.

We have a stop in Barbados on our upcoming cruise. We have been to the Boatyard and are looking for another beach. I want calm water, chair and umbrella rentals available, a rest room and if possible a restaurant or snack bar. Any suggestions?

We took our grandsons on their first cruise last winter. They were 10, 8 and 6. All attended the Kids Club and loved it. The 10 year old could sign himself out, but we were very clear where we would be and he had to check in with us. If, for some reason he could not find us he had to call the cabin and go back to kid's club until we connected.
On sea days they were allowed to hang out with friends by the pool but we were always there too. We were very clear about never going to someone's cabin or having someone in our cabin. There was no roaming around the ship alone.
After dinner they all went to the kid's club every night and even the 10 year old knew he could not check himself out at night. He had to wait for us.
We never had an issue. They knew the rules. Overall, all the kids we met were well behaved. Have fun.

I was on Adventure last February. I think my cabin was 2616. It was very quiet, no noise from any venue.

My final payment is due in a week. When I log onto my cruises it gives me lots of info but nothing about payment. Can I pay online or do I have to call RCCL?
Also, when I booked I added gratuities to the bill. I believe the amount has changed since then. Does anyone know if my final payment amount will change, or do they honor the original booking? I have no problem adding some tips while on the cruise. I usually do. Thoughts please. Thanks.

I booked a room at the Quality Inn El Portal in San Juan for mid January. I was just informed that it is no longer a Choice Hotel and has closed. Does anyone know if this property will re-open under another name? I'm looking for an inexpensive hotel for one night pre-cruise. Our flight lands in the early evening so I don't need a pool or beach, just something convenient to restaurants.
Many of the properties are $250 to $300 a night. I had this for $140.00.
Suggestions?

My husband and I took our three school aged grandkids on Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan this past Feb. It was Presidents week and they were off from school. I was surprised at how few children were on the ship. In fact, the adventure ocean program combined two age groups because of low numbers of children.
My biggest complaint was the cost of airfare during that week.

I'm on the Jewel in January. I need to book airline tickets for my return trip. The ship docks on a Sunday at around 6:00am. I can use airline miles for a flight home at 9:45am, but wonder if this is way too early. My other option is to take a very late flight, which I really don't want to do.
Any advice?

I received the $25.00 for a cruise last winter. It never showed up on my booking statements, but it was there when I got my onboard spending statement.
-
My husband and I cruise about once a year. He claims I am anal because I always check our onboard spending a few times during the cruise. On our last cruise, when I checked, there was a mini bar charge for over $20.00. Since I knew we had not used the minibar I went to guest services. They immediately took the charge off.
A few days later, the minibar attendant came to our cabin. While there I told him about the charge. He asked if it was on the first day of the cruise. When I said yes, he said he thought he knew what happened.
Some guests leave their cabin and take all personal belongings with them on disembarkation day. The cabin attendants then start to get the cabin ready for the next guests. Some guests then return to the cabin, take items out of the minibar and leave. So, by the time the minibar attendant gets back, the items are charged to the new guest. I asked if this happened often. He said yes, he has caught guests returning after he has checked.
So, keep an eye on your spending. Not all cruisers are honest.

I've read a few news articles regarding massive amounts of seaweed washing up on beaches in the Caribbean and Mexico. Have any recent cruisers seen this? I'll be sailing in a few months and love going to the beach. Just wondering if I'll spend my days doing something else.

For those of you cruising next winter, Jet Blue has extended their schedule today. If you are waiting to book air, you might want to take a look.

I've sailed on Jewel in an oceanroom on deck 4 twice. There was no issue with noise. Last Feb. I sailed Adventure in an oceanview on deck two. The cabin was quiet most of the time. At two ports I did hear noise as they were docking in the morning. It sounded like chains or an anchor.
I have friends who sailed on Jewel on deck 3 and they had no complaints. Hope this helps.

Just an FYI to cruisers. Southwest will extend their schedule on June 30th, and Jet Blue will extend theirs on July 8th. I'm sure there are people waiting to book airlines after these schedules open.

AtlantaCruiser 72 had it exactly right. I recently booked a cabin on the Jewel. It is right next to my friend's cabin. Her cabin was cheaper than mine. I called Royal and was told it was because my cabin has Pullman beds and can accommodate more people. I don't understand the rationale. Cabin size is exactly the same, and if one booked a Pullman room for 3 or 4 people, Royal would get extra revenue. Why charge more for two?
Book the cheaper cabin.

If anyone has stayed at the Hampton Inn in San Juan, pre or post cruise, can you give me your impressions. Is the area nice, the pool, and how far from the beach?
I've looked at a number of hotels for a post cruise stay of about two days, and some of the prices are just too much for me.
So, if you have been to the Hampton Inn, help.
