  1. Did you see any young children taking the tour? Our daughter will be 9 years old by the time we take the trip. Just checking if it would be appropriate.

Only you know your daughter. I will tell you this was an extremely moving tour that left a sadness/recollection period hours at minimum. Being that it was from a child’s perspective is gut wrenching for me.

Like just saying the only recovery was the “coffee shops” ;-)

  2. Kindergarten rules. Treat other people the way you want to be treated like a PP said.

And yes the world is fascinated by our politics right now. IMO if you are a Trumpie stay quiet like you do at home in front of new people.

If you are not tell them it’s not your fault and u will get a nice laugh.

I am cruising the British Isles next July and I cannot wait.

And yes do NOT call anyone an Englishman unless they are from England lol

    Happy planning

  3. sharonann24,

We're booked on RCL Brilliance of the Seas for the July 18, 2019 - 12 night cruise. This is one of their smaller ships and will be just the right size for this cruise.

The cruise starts in Amsterdam and sails around the British Isles with stops in Scotland, Wales, Ireland (overnight in Dublin) and England. We're doing two days pre-cruise in Amsterdam, a wonderful city to visit, and four days post cruise in London.

Whatever line/cruise you choose will probably give you memories you'll share for the rest of your lives!

    Happy cruising!!!

I am booked on this cruise as well! Can’t wait:-)

Honestly I would have booked NCL, but I cannot deny the attraction of another pre cruise Amsterdam visit!!! One of my favorite cities! And apparently this cruise has dramatically increased in price as well!

  4. Hi,

I am reading so many posts of dressing in layers etc!

I am a “hot” person ahem generally.

Last year we took a Baltic cruise which included 5 nights in Amsterdam after.

Granted St. Petersburg was Hot when we were there. But I heard a lot about rain, layers etc. I never wore more than a light sweater. Umbrella.....

    Is Alaska another level?

    Thanks

    Kerri

  5. Alaska cruise balcony seems worth the splurge.... HOWEVER

If your room is under the show lounge or scraping pool chairs whole cruise less than amazing.

So for me.... sleep is 1st priority. If I don’t know where my cabin will be.... no thanks

I will be on the Jewel next month very happy to hear a lot of outdoor spaces :-)

    Happy planning

  6. As sad as I am for the people who live on the Big island, and I hope they are able to return soon; NCL made the correct decision.

Air quality, the unknown of future eruptions. Normal human curiosity/stupidity and Kona being a tender port I’m sure added to the decision.

I for one am very happy I did this cruise last year, and I’m sure once this devastation finally stops. The big island will probably be the most popular with everyone wanting to see the “new island”

I for one want to go back to Hawaii for sure. I loved all the islands

    Peace

  7. But take into consideration that with a lack of geographical orientation how many people won't cruise to Cozumel MEXICO, a safe, tourist friendly island far offshore of the mainland, due to reports on TV and other media of MEXICAN Gang violence and Drug Cartels many hundreds of miles away.

Look up Cancun, close to Coz and there's been shootings there and Playa del Carmen in the last few months.

I know Mexico has certainly had its share of tourist deterrents.

I’m thinking specifically Kona..... best snorkeling on the planet almost( haven’t seen it all) just most of Caribbean)

I think the main reason they stopped Kona is that it is a tender port and if there is a catastrophe it will be harder to leave the islands in a timely fashion.

I would personally wish the ship would stop at Kona if I was in it as I know how far away and awesome it is. But I do understand NCL position considering a tender port and harder to evacuate I would imagine.

I am praying for the people who live in Hawaii who are affected by this catastrophe! Xo

  8. I have been to the Big Island and drove completely around it. It's BIG. I can understand not stopping in Hilo but I don't understand why NCL is not stopping at Kona. Maybe to prevent stupid people from renting a car and trying to get a "closer look" at the Volcano. NCL can't be held responsible for stupid things people do in port if not on their excursions.

    K

We cruised on POA last summer. It was an amazing cruise. Watching the news is devastating to me. I walked in volcano national park last year. My daughter15 who was learning about volcanoes in earth science was freaked out and would NOT go on excursion to the volcano park.

On the tour I was laughing and thinking thank god she didn’t come. Guide was giving very good info whole time ... but also saying how’s this is active volcano and if u feel the earth move and see the park rangers talking excitedly on their walkie talkies .... run back to bus!!! Cause I will be skidding down the mountain shortly!!!! I was LOL at time .

Not funny at all now. I am horrified over this current situation. Hawaii is very expensive to live and the big island is cheaper to live and most of the people displaced probably are financially devastated at the moment. My heart breaks for these people and now they will be hurting even more with tourism drying up.

Here is my question and rationalization of why NCL is not stopping at Kona.:o

Like PP has said.... NCL will have bad headlines and court cases over idiot passengers. People will try to drive and see the lava and be stupid!

But IMO NCL is thinking about what if a major blow..... now we have all these people ashore.... and god knows 1/3 of passengers might be chasing the lava....

Now we might have a situation where we have tenders trying to get everyone back to boat in state of panic.

Now the boat is waiting for passengers who were chasing the lava...

People on board are complaining.... OMG I am breathing poison this ship needs to leave.....

Yes end of day business is run by threat of lawsuits......

    Insert annoyed rolling eyes smilie....

    Peace

And I pray for all of the people who are affected .

    Peace

  9. I am very happy I took this cruise last year! I feel awful for the people living on the big island.

I understand they are trying to limit liability. Hilo.... too close!

While Kona very far and clearest perfect snorkeling water I have ever seen. I think they are worried about air quality and if that puppy blows the chaos might be crazy.

I feel very bad for their hurting economy.
