  1. Hi, for our upcoming Horizon cruise, I bought the premium internet plan online as its at a discount, compared to buying on the ship. I got the Fun Shops confirmation order and my credit card was charged, so all ok. However, when I log in under my account, it shows our cruise and all the details except for this purchase. Should it not show up under purchased items? Is this normal for the internet plan purchase, or should I call Carnival? Thanks!

  2. I was wondering the same thing. We have 3 OS booked on our upcoming Horizon cruise. There is no FTTF on our cruise (actually not offered on any Horizon cruise till Dec as Carnival was expecting a lot of Diamonds and Plats in the first few months). I was therefore wondering if the suites would be ready at boarding, since the cabin attendants would not have the FTTF cabins to service first.

  3. Not on Carnival, but on Royal Caribbean in 2015, we were on Rhapsody of the Seas and were in a suite that was just under the Lido. On that particular ship, the GS and JS cabins were all under the Lido, so if you wanted a suite, that's where you were. And we definitely did hear a bit of noise early mornings from chairs and carts but mostly it was ok. Having said that, we are sound sleepers and not particularly sensitive to noise (we live in New York so are immune by now). But it may all depend on how sensitive you are to sounds which is an individual trait.

  4. Really enjoying your review and pictures! We are on the Horizon in August and am looking forward to it! Was also laughing about the Verrazzano spelling - have spelled it that way my whole life, not sure why the legislators needed to step in :)

Thanks for the tip about the forward portion of the decks for sailaway. We are on 7 midship and may walk forward. We were earlier thinking of going to the top deck but were concerned that it might be crazy crowded so this could work. This is our first time sailing out of New York and i definitely want the best views. :')

  5. Several people who recently sailed Horizon have commented on different threads that they arrived 30 mins prior and got good seats.

I hope that's true for our cruise on the Horizon next month too. It would be such a pain to show up 45 mins in advance to get decent seats. 30 mins is bad enough.

  6. Enjoying your review and pictures. We will be on Horizon in a little over a month and i am looking forward to seeing your ship pictures.

Would have loved to try the Havana suite but by the time we booked, the only suites were OS and GS, so we are in an OS on 7. I would have liked it just for the walk in shower which looks really nice, we just have the regular tub. I'm assuming you booked some way out? And is it priced higher than the OS?

  7. On our upcoming Horizon cruise, we have 4 sea days and only 3 ports. Personally, since I'm coming off a brutal few months of work and work-related travel, I'm really looking forward to a relaxing cruise with lots of down time. I'm going with family (6 of us in total, all adults) and am excited to spend time with my parents and sibs, who I haven't seen much of recently. But you may feel differently. Are you coming off a crazy time at work? Or going in a big group? These things may influence your choice.

  8. Thanks for such a nice and balanced review. Increases the anticipation for us future Horizon cruisers! I really don't understand why the elevators should be so problematic, as you say, many of us are used to this system and it really does work well. Maybe they just need to reprogram them, or have clear instructions to avoid user error.

So glad you enjoyed your trip. And it was such a nice gesture on your part to move cabins so that the family could have the adjoining cabins. I'm sure you made their day!

  9. Another poster had said that the crew told them to press the keypad once for each person in the group. So that the elevators know whether they have enough capacity. This is consistent with my experience using these types of elevators.

It's a super easy system. I live in a hi rise condo building and we have used this system for 3 years now. My office building is the same. It's so much faster. I can't imagine why anyone would think it complicated.

  10. Don't know which page you're looking at but the link below comes straight from the Carnival web site when you Google the Cheers program. So I knew it was extra charge but was hoping we could order it in the MDR which I guess is not possible.

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1106/~/cheers%21-beverage-program

ETA: i think your screen shot is from the order page. It wouldnt surprise me if they glossed over the exclusions there as that could maybe deter some people from ordering the package.

  11. Fresh squeezed OJ is not offered in the MDR, it is available only in the Havana Bar. It is not included in the Cheers package (no idea why as you can get a $20 pour of single malt 20 yr scotch but not OJ, whatever). Regardless we actually don't mind their OJ, yes it's not fresh but it is good quality for concentrate.

Thanks! A bit disappointed to hear. I guess it's surprising that if passengers are willing to pay the upcharge, why they don't offer fresh juice in the MDR at breakfast/brunch.

  12. Yeah, we have had fresh OJ on both Royal Caribbean and Princess. It would be nice to get it on Carnival as well.

Also, fresh squeezed OJ is NOT included in Cheers. It's specific that it's excluded. For us, Cheers didn't make sense anyway as we drink so little coffee and alcohol, and with the exclusion of fresh OJ, it's even less so.

  13. On our upcoming Horizon cruise, we have 4 Sea days and are looking forward to the sea day brunch. Is it possible to get fresh squeezed orange juice at brunch in the MDR? I ask because a Google search indicated you could get fresh OJ at the Havana bar but said nothing about the MDR. We are fine with the upcharge of course, but didn't know about availability.

  14. Both Carnival and Princess are owned by CCL, right? Broadcasting rights would be acquired by the parent company. If Princess is telecasting the games and not the other cruise lines under CCL, that's even more of a shame. Personally, I'm glad I'm not sailing right now. It wouldn't even have occurred to me that Carnival wouldn't be showing the games, you just assume that for a sporting event of the magnitude of the World Cup, the games would be shown 100%.

  15. I am so surprised that Carnival won't be broadcasting the World Cup games live. It's only the biggest sporting event in the world! Wonder if RCL or NCL are showing the games.

Opening games have been terrific. We shouted ourselves hoarse yesterday during the Spain-Portugal match. Every bar in NYC is showing the matches and they are packed! And this despite the US not qualifying this time.

  16. I eat low carb too. For breakfast, I usually stick to scrambled eggs or an omelette with some smoked salmon and loads of fruit. For lunch, I fill up with a big salad, no croutons and go easy on the dressing. I sometimes add a vegetable soup if I'm still hungry. At dinner, you can then splurge a bit and have a bread roll or dessert with your entree. There are so many choices on a cruise it's easy to eat healthy. Biggest thing is to not get carried away by the number of items available at the buffet. And definitely stick to your workout routine.

  17. #17: You're missing the point. The previous poster spoke about the fact that when they brought wine on board, they took it to dinner and were charged the corkage fee, but then Carnival refused to store the wine, while they had no issue storing wine purchased by them onboard. In other words, they took the fee but didn't provide the requested service. Personally, I have no issue paying the fee, but would want to make sure I got the service I was paying for.

Now Carnival can sometimes be pretty inconsistent, so it could be just a once off experience with bar staff who didn't know the rules.....per #18, it can be done right.

  18. they will not hold it for you! we mistakenly took a bottle of white (twist off cap) they charge us corkage and then told us they only store bottle that you buy from them!!!

Yikes! That is not great to hear! So you paid corkage and they still didn't store the wine.

After hearing this, I think I'll just do what others have suggested. Chill the wine in the cabin (I find the fridges ineffective so will just ask the room steward for a filled ice bucket and chill it) and as you say, fill up two glasses and take them in to dinner. We only ever drink one glass at dinner, so that won't be an inconvenience. We were just in Germany where we picked up some lovely Bavarian rieslings and are looking forward to slowly consuming them.
