  1. Sorry to hear about your handicap and that RCCL cancelled the Chukka Beach Break. Most tour operators should be able to provide transportation to a beach and if you like, include some sightseeing or shopping with it. Since we booked with Peat Taylor Tours and had a positive experience with them, I checked their website and they do offer a private beach tour. If you're interested, you can check their beach option here:

. . . or perhaps something like Jamaica Resort for a Day may be of interest to you?

    Good luck with your planning!

Thank you for the great links!!

  2. We are going to be booking this for our Jan 5th - 12th sail date.

I believe I read that the VIP package takes you to a nicer part of the beach. Otherwise, all the same amenities ( dancing, drinks , food ).

Anxious to hear if you Liked the Bamboo Beach excursion. I had my heart set on doing the RCCL's Chukka Beach excursion, but they're not offering it this year:confused:

  3. We will be on the Oasis docking at Falmouth in March. We've done all the "big" tourist attractions on previous trips. We're looking for a few hours at a nice Beach to relax.

    1. How Do you get to Dr Caves?

    2. Is it safe to take a cab?

    3. Are there any local tours that go there?

The reason I ask about safety is the last time we were in Jamaica, I took a picture of a lady with a pile of bananas on her head. I thought it was a really good photo. She wanted $5 and chased me a block until she cornered me lol. Looking back it's funny, but at the time I was scared:eek:

  4. I see you are from the BURGH also-so am I!

Oasis is a wonderful ship, it's one of my favorites. The shows are fantastic, especially Hairspray and the Aqua show.

There's so much to see in Jamaica, you may miss them if you just go to the beach!

Have you gone to Secret Falls? Can I suggest a company we used while on Allure this past summer? Take a look at this-they have a lot to offer.

    I highly recommend them!

    Hey Rosebud,

Glad to hear from another Yinzer:D. Thanks for the link. This will be my 3rd time to Jamaica. We've done most of the "big places" to see. Wanted some Beach time. We can't wait to go on the Oasis. I heard so many good things about her. Did you happen to eat at Chops on Board. We're going over our 25th Wedding Anniversary and thought we'd eat there that night, which is the day we'll be at port in Jamaica!!!

  5. Arriving on the Oasis in March. Looking for a tour to a nice Beach for a few hours of relaxation. Time N Place Beach is mentioned in this Forum, but it appears to be closed when you go to the website. It's just my wife and I so not enough people for a private tour. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Will be arriving on the Oasis to Falmouth Jamaica in March. We've done Dunn's River Falls, Rafting, & Plantation tour. Looking for a nice tour that goes to a Beach to relax for a few hours. Has anyone done the Peat Taylor Private Beach Tour?? There's no comments on his website from anyone that's done it.

  7. If you will be visiting Ocho Rios again and love a bit of adventure, consider the Irie Blue Hole. Featuring a 20 foot cascading waterfall, hidden caves, refreshing turquoise pools and a Tarzan rope swing, the Blue Hole is less touristy and more secluded than Dunns River--no crowds and attentive guides that treat you like a V.I.P. A visit to the Irie Blue is a different and unique experience and is not offered by the cruise lines. Our visit here was the highlight of our Jamaican vacation!

Read my review on Trip Advisor for more details.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have one arm that is handicapped, so I'm not able to jump off the Falls, even though it looks really cool. We were interested in a partial day at a Beach. RCCL cancelled the Chukka Beach Break that we were planning on doing.

  8. Just got back from Jamaica and Turtle River Falls and Gardens. It was a beautiful place! We had our own tour guide and photographer. At the end of the tour we bought a disk with 117 pictures for $30 and the pics came out great! We were the only ones on the tour, it took about 2 hours, we saw waterfalls, climbed up on them, bird aviary, koi pond and some giant banana spiders! The people were so nice, our tour guide Jordan did a great job, he helped us (we have a 3 and 5 year old) climb the falls. It was so beautiful and peaceful to be away from the crowds of the cruise ship. We took a cab for 5, it is very close to the port, I can't remember how much we paid since my husband took care of it. They only have drinks there, beer and soda so bring snacks if you go. It is formerly called Enchanted Gardens (I don't think it is Coyoba as referenced on this thread). There are great reviews on trip advisor.

Are you able to go into the water at any of the Falls to swim & cool off?

  9. I guess it really depends on what you would like to see and do, reading reviews, deciding how much you would like to spend and then see which tour operator best suits your needs. For us, we booked our Ocho Rios excursion to Dunns River Falls, River Tubing and the Irie Blue Hole with Peat Taylor Tours. One of the reasons we choose Peat Taylor was because they were one of a few tour operators that even know about the Blue Hole. We had a private tour for just our family and we also found Peat Taylor Tours to be very reasonably priced--and when travelling with a family of 5, this was very helpful. I have read alot of excellent reviews for Liberty so I am sure they would also be a wonderful choice--but I believe their rates are higher than Peat's.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day with Peat Taylor Tours. We had Peat's eldest son, Oneil as our guide and we thought he was simply awesome. I know there are a lot of choices among tour operators, but we had no regrets booking our Ocho Rios excursion with Peat Taylor Tours.

Thank you dz63. We've been to Jamaica before and did the Dunn's River Falls. Looking for something different. The Royal Carib excursions don't interest us!

  10. Are you a steak eater?

The filet is amazing, IMHO. There are other steaks that would be equally great (ribeye, and as I recall, T-bone) that are huge and contain a lot more fat that while I love, didn't want to do!

But, the petite and regular filet are both wonderful! My wife has had the halibut, and loved it as well.

Chops is a steakhouse. Plan accordingly!

I love a good Filet Mignon. Any suggestions on the appetizers?

  11. I prefer Chops. My wife likes Italian so we ate at Portifino on the Adventure. I think Portifino may be similar to Giovanni.

Either way I'm sure you will have a great cruise. Happy anniversary!

Thank you for the Anniversary wish! My wife and I like Italian AND Steaks. So that is why this is such a tough decision. On our previous cruises we have really enjoyed the food and service in the MDR. That's why I was trying to pick just one specialty restaurant.

  12. Chops but be aware that some of the tables for 2 are very close together. I would make the reservation in person and note your want for a table off to the side

Thank you for the advice. If I make the reservation on-line, to make sure we get in on our Anniversary, is there a way to email or actually talk to someone to let them know it's a very special night;)??

    Greg

  13. Interestingly we had the exact opposite on Oasis! I liked the food at both but the service we received at Chops was appalling which lead to us speaking with the Maitre D. Giovanni's service was great.

I am undeterred though, hoping it was a once off and we will try it again.

Sorry to hear about your bad service. Glad to hear the food was good though.

  14. I think the patio areas of both are romantic after dark. Our Giovanni's experience was a lot nicer though because we sat at an outdoor table right next to where a solo guitarist was playing. On other nights, it's was a violin/guitar duo. If you can time your booking to when there is live entertainment in Central Park, it'll make a world of difference.

What you have to be careful of at Chops is the tables next to the Trellis Bar. It's hit or miss, but you could get a crowd at that bar that negatively affects your romantic dinner.

    I don't blame you ref 150. I'm not a fan either....and I've tried both menus.

    Paul.

Do both Restaurants have Patio Dining areas? Is it really noisy in this area? We like to eat dinner early, between 6-6:30, so we probably won't have a crowd at this time will we?

    Greg

  15. My wife and I will be on the Oasis in March to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The menu at 150 Central Park Restaurant doesn't appeal to either one of us. With that choice out, which would you choose for us to have our 25th Anniversary dinner at?? Chops Grille or Giovanni's. We both like steaks and Italian, so not sure which restaurant would be a better choice. Which would be more romantic???

  16. We were on that cruise too.. We also rented a cabana. You can rent them 90 days out. Don't wait too long because there aren't that many. We paid $250. You get a special ride to the cabana and eat lunch in a special area.

You will also have your own person who will take care of you all day. A cooler and towels are provided in the cabana so you do not have to take towels or water.

You will love it. (There were 5 of us)

To add to the response from pamelajs, you rent the cabanas for Nellie's beach on the excursion page on Royal's website. Note that there are 3 different categories, with different price points: Over the water, Hilltop, and Beach cabanas. The over the water ones are $250. I believe the others are $225. Floating beach mats are also provided with the cabanas. No need to apologize for multiple questions:)

When I looked on the excursion page, it says that the Over the Water cabanas are $250 per person. Is that correct? I wanted to make sure I was reading it correctly. Pam and Christy, is that what you paid?
