The 2023 Grand South America/Antarctica cruise will still be on the Volendam, not the Zuiderdam. I am booked on it and have the email listing the replacement ship as Volendam.
You are correct - I was on the second segment of the Grand South America, but cannot change to 2023 since I will be on the World Cruise. That cruise is now on the Zuiderdam. My head is spinning!

Canceled cruises.
The Grand South America cruises are all moved to 2023, and the ship has changed from Volendam to Zuiderdam. I was on the Buenos Aires to Fort Lauderdale leg. Just to muddy the water - I am on the 2023 World Cruise, and it is also changed to Zuiderdam. We are all supposed to have new cabin assignments by 9/30/2021.

I have never cruised before and am taking the Konigsdam to Alaska next July.
When we stop in a place like Juneau, how easy is it to walk on and off the ship? Is it as easy as walking into a hotel, or is it more difficult?
Thanks!
It isn't like walking into a hotel - the gangplank is most always slanted downward, sometimes more than others. But, the gangplank has small metal strips that help you keep your balance, also hand rails on each side. The crew will assist you if you are uncertain about your footing. Using the tenders is a little more iffy, but the crew is stationed on each side of the tender door and will let you know exactly which foot to use & where to place it.

Thanks so much for your reply!!

First cruise on Carnival for 10+ years. Taking my daughter on a 7 day Bahamas cruise in January, 2022 - wondered if robes are furnished in the staterooms, or can I request them from the room steward? Looking forward to a great mother/daughter getaway. Thanks for any replies.

I hope you get the Library. Many HAL Cruisers were disappointed when the libraries were removed. Perhaps with Orlando gone they will come back. here is hoping...
When you are in the library - you are not in a bar having a drink or two.........just sayin!

Three days before would bring it inline with what is required to re-enter the USA from overseas.
And - How are we going to achieve that?

Our tests are no cost to us and we can say "for travel". Also, check with your doctor's office. You may be able to get them there.
KarenYou could also check with your local Health Department.

I am on a cruise that requires passengers returning to the US to have a Covid test prior to entering the country. Anyone know if the cruise lines are providing this on the ship?

Several years ago we lived in St. Thomas for 6 month. I can definitely see both sides of that coin. The local paper published a short column of which ships were in for the day, also the # of passengers.

I’m not sure ZAANDAM will suit me for it’s planned RTW/Grand Voyages. Prinsendam was unique/great, Maasdam was a dud IMHO. If it was a RTW on the Koningsdam I’d be booked. Thoughts??
I loved Maasdam - went to Easter Island; Australia & South Pacific Islands, scheduled for Alaska (sold out from under me) one of my favorite ships. Did one on Prinsendam and loved it. Done 2 on Zaandam - will sail on the "little ships" as long as they keep them.

A more comprehensive article in the WSJ yesterday 5/19 with more detail of vaccine & testing requirements of most of EU, British, other European countries. I didn't read any requirements re. type of tours (ship, non-ship, personal). Mostly upbeat, I thought!

As more & more people get vaccinated there would be far less danger to go ashore individually .This may take several months to accomplish once cruising starts but imo ,it shouldn't take the cruise lines longer for individual tours in most parts of the developed world . Having all pax & crew vaccinated would lead to a clean voyage .They may pre test at the pier but ,that is fine .just bring your vaccine CDC cards with your pass ports
There are countries that are not yet allowing non-citizens to enter them.

You are correct that there isn't any "self service" laundry on Eurodam or any other current HAL ship. The laundry service is very good. The bag is $20 for everywhere but Europe where it is $30 (or was when th ships last sailed). The "unlimited" service was $7 per day ($9 in Europe) and allowed for as many bags per cabin as you wished to send out.
The laundry comes back nicely ironed and on hangers or folded as you wish.
Are the self-serve laundries not on the long itinerary (world, Grand) ships - Zaandam and Volendam any more?

Tuesday 3/23/2021 front page headline of the WSJ. "Cruise Lines Fear Another Lost Season" . Not much good news - "The CDC says guidance is coming soon. Future orders and Technical instructions will address additional activities to help cruise lines prepare for and return to passenger operations in a manner that mitigates Covid-a9 risk among passengers, crew members" spokesman Jason McDonald said, declining to comment further. No response from the White House. So even when the 40 pages of the rules that are already required, looks like they might give another set of rules that will be impossible to achieve, (my opinion).) Much longer article - try to find & read it. Not much positive news.

We found the inaugural EXC voyage from FLL to Papeete to be the best of the EXC voyages (and we did a number of them. The Easter Island stop was a definite high point.
I was also on that cruise - best one I have ever been on. Sadly, they have not been able to even come close since.

I read that only the ones sailing to or from a Canadian port have been cancelled. So the cruises to/from Seattle are still on schedule (for now.)

Don't the Seattle cruises stop in Victoria?

Blocking cruises to Canada?
It is Canada that made the decision to close their ports, not the other way around!
"They" as in the Canadian officials was my intent.

Article in this weekend's WSJ by Michael Taube. 1st 2 sentences: "If you're impatient with the pace of Covid-19 vaccine distribution in the US, count your blessings. At least you don't live in Canada. "
Goes on to explain several issues with ordering, distribution, etc. Get a copy or look it up. Might be part of the reason they are blocking cruises to Canada.

Exotic cruise in 2019 (I think), waiting for it to repeat. I saw a cruise in the South Pacific which featured all of the battles of WW2. I read about it when it was almost over, but have looked for this itinerary ever since. Anyone have any information about it???

Flowers on Princess Cruises?
in Princess Cruises
Posted
I am booked on a Princess Cruise in April 2022. I have been searching all over their website for a way to have a nice bouquet in my cabin upon embarking. Does Princess not even have this option? Thanks for your help.
