  1. Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a downtown Vancouver hotel for 2 nights post-cruise (Sept. 8-10, 2017) and have already searched these forums. I'm trying to keep it under $150 US per night, and have narrowed it down to these three options.

Greenbrier Hotel - 1393 Robson St.

    Kingston Hotel B&B - 757 Richards St.

Moda Hotel - 900 Seymour St.

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a clean place in a safe and secure area. I don't want to go the hostel route, but did want to stay within budget. All of those three are comparable in price, with Kingston being the least expensive, and Greenbrier the highest.

Is there one that's in a nicer area? I am a late 40's woman, who will be traveling alone. I plan on renting a bike and exploring the area both days I am there. Not really into the night life, but would like restaurants in the area.

Finally, how do the neighborhoods for these hotels compare to the neighborhood for the YWCA hotel? That's also an option, and it is significantly cheaper.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. If you are able to send the scrips in for on board credit, could you report back here? I looked at the script program online to see if there was any guidance there, and found this under the Royal Caribbean entry

    "General Information

GIFT CARDS MAY NOT BE REDEEMED AT OR BY ANY TRAVEL AGENCY. Gift Card is valid only for Royal Caribbean sailings, and can ONLY be used for new bookings. Gift Card may NOT be used for online purchases, and may NOT be applied to a group reservation and may NOT be used for on board purchases. Cruise must be booked at least ten (10) business days prior to the sail date. All reservations are subject to availability. To make your cruise reservation please call Royal Caribbean Directly at 888-437-1994"

The above says that they cannot be used for onboard purchases, but it's not clear whether this means onboard credit or not.

  3. Don't count on it brother. I thought I was too. The court clerk almost fell out of his chair when he read my occupation on the jury pool list. I sent in my jury response with my occupation as the reason for the waiver but it was denied. Thankfully, Rhode Island went to a two day system where if you're not called after two days you go home. Under the old system, I would've sat there for two weeks. What defense attorney would allow a cop on their jury?

    Welcome to Rhode island.

Not all jury trials are for criminal matters. You could very easily be picked for a civil trial.

  4. I just did my first TA this April on the Vision from Tampa to Barcelona, and loved it. I usually am not one to join in activities on sea days, but I actually found that there were enough things that interested me that there were overlapping choices. I saved all the cruise compasses, so when I get home tonight I will scan them and post them. Having only done Caribbean cruises before, I found that the sea day options on the TA were more plentiful and more diverse.

  5. What I would suggest is that you ask folks on your meet and mingle, on the port excursion forums and Trip advisor about their suggestions for excursions.

I would agree with this suggestion. Tripadvisor is how I researched the ports and excursions for all 3 of my Caribbean cruises. Whether it's a beach day, snorkeling or sightseeing that you're looking for you'll find it there. Ask questions if you cant find what you're looking for.

The roll call threads are good resources also. I know for my upcoming cruise there were about a half a dozen excursions that were booked and looking for people to join them. If your rollcall isn't active, you can always look at a rollcall for the same itinerary, and see what the people there are planning to do for excursions. That will give you good ideas, and an idea of what providers can be booked outside of the cruise line.

  6. Hi everyone, I'm sailing solo for the first time on Vision next month and was wondering if they have the egg crate mattress toppers in the single bed size.

I've used them before when the beds have been together, but this time I am in an inside cabin, and thought having the beds apart would give me a little bit more room to walk around.
