Lol; you and me both this year!!

The actual day I turned diamond ( March 2009)  they announced “ no diamonds in the DL”….. can you believe it?!?🤷‍♀️  So I’d like to predict the day of the next downsizing announcement will be in October ….!

I remember when that happened. It was caused by people bringing their friends into the lounge who shouldn't have been there and ruined it for all of us

FWIW,  At Baltimore they were strictly enforcing times, even with sub-zero weather and snow.  While we were in our 12:30 line, 1:00 line forming separately, a woman with a 2:30 time was told to wait in the warming hut until 2:30.

I wish they would put a warming hut in Bayonne

With all of these outrageous charges, I can understand how Royal Caribbean can afford to run the  Kids sail free promotion’s Without kids these facilities would mean nothing. The $1449 cabana price just about covers the 3rd and 4th passengers fare.

While you keep your money in the right pocket RC is digging into your left pocket

Another gimmick. Kids sail free but 1st and 2nd passenger pay the price, along with the increase in prices on the private islands

Thanks for saying all the really nice things guys! I feel so loved.

Got some pictures of the Solarium at lunchtime. Buffet-style at lunch. Also, it gets more crowded later in the cruise when more and more people find it. You will see brunch & lunch items.

Can you tell me if the Solarium Bistro is open for lunch on embark day

  5. Since we prefer not to fly we cruise from NJ or NY and sometimes Baltimore. We love Royal and it doesn't matter where the ship goes if we get a good price. Now with that said we are cruising the Carnival Sunrise next May from NY doing a 14 night partial canal (Atlantic side), Costa Rica, Grand Cayman and private island. Then in Oct 2019 we are booked on the NCL Dawn doing a 14-night southern from NY going to the ABC islands plus some others. We just could not pass up those itineraries and I wonder why Royal can't do something like that from Bayonne or Baltimore.

  6. Thanks, everyone, for the replies. I appreciate the help. I am going to try to find someone who is going on the Sunshine before December who would be willing to look at the cabin (2341) to see if the two scooters will fit.

Thanks again.......Cruise Critic people are the BEST source for helpful information! :)

    Happy Cruising!

We had cabin 2341 last year on the Sunshine and I think 2 scooters will fit and be able to turn around. This is an OV accessible and has 2 nice windows and a sofa. The door is extra wide and there is a long hallway when you enter. I don't know how to upload photos, but if you would email me at amv1321 at verizon dot net I can send them to you. If you can get this room I would grab it. The cabin is located aft on deck 2 (check the deck plan)

  7. only for this year. Next year, the Carnival Triumph will be there..that is a very old ship

That may be but there is a fantastic itinerary next May to the Panama Canal. The ship will be getting a new makeover making her a old new ship.

  8. I wouldn't mind if Carnival visited some Caribbean ports more often, like Grenada, Martinique, Barbados, Curacao, Bon Aire, or St Croix. Longer Journey cruises could have some of these on their itineraries.

However, Carnival sticks to the familiar, based on its passenger demographic.

Carnival has some nice Journey cruise itineraries. There is one next May from NY round trip doing a partial Panama Canal. So for folks like us who don't want to fly this is perfect. The Carnival Pride out of Baltimore is doing most of these ports on Journey cruises.

  9. Embarkation was as smooth as we have ever done out of NYC. Terminal to ship in about 15 minutes. Debarkation was great as well. Ship to shore in 20 minutes. No more customs forms in NYC and customs basically checked our passports and told us to have a nice day! No questions or anything.

Let's go with the negatives first.

Elevators. Yes folks the elevators really are that bad! My office building uses this technology so I am sure It could work if programmed correctly. Often had to wait at least 10 minutes for an elevator. Did a lot of walking on this ship!

Feel free to ask any questions!

What's with the elevators and is there something new I have to know about them. My husband has limited mobility and uses a walker and waiting that long seems excessive or was that at busy times like dinner.

  10. We just returned from a cruise on the Adventure of the Seas. Some observations:

We stayed in a mini suite. As such we were very disappointed in the lack of outlets. There were literally just two. As a family that uses a lot of electronics (two phones, two smart watches, a couple batter backups, and a laptop I need to bring along in case things blow up at the office). Last year we were on a Holland ship that had a lot more outlets.

Holy crap, elevators. Ten minute waits were common. At all hours. We've been on four cruises, never have waited as long as we did on this ship for elevators. Plus two of them were offline all week.

TV issues were annoying. Every single morning all the news channels would freeze. Not just our cabin but it seems everyone's. It never happened at night, just in the mornings when you'd want to catch up for a few minutes. Totally frozen. In addition, their TV offerings really aren't much. Last year's Holland was awesome. Not sure if this is the issue with all of Royal Caribbean or not. The comparison was night and day, 1990's vs. 2018.

I really wish cruise ships had a selection in their store of basic snacks. Sometimes you just get the hankering for a bag of pretzels or M&M's. This ship had absolutely nothing in this regard.

    On the positive side....

Our room attendant - Wilson - was absolutely the best. One of the single happiest people I've ever met. He was always available and took great care of us. He also took to our 19 mo old grand daughter which was awesome.

The staff, overall, was very nice. We never came across anyone who didn't seem to enjoy what they were doing.

Not a bad ship, but they do need to figure out a few things as noted above. When we selected this cruise we had changed from Holland since we were going to be taking our adults kids, their spouses and the grand baby. We thought Holland might be too old for them. Turned out that this cruise had more older people (70+, not that there's anything wrong with that) than we had ever seen on Holland. Could be it was because of the destination (New England), not sure.

We were on this cruise and the May 25th to the Bahamas. Not that I'm older than dirt (lol), but I think there is a difference with the demographics on the Canada/NE cruises with an older crowd.

How could I forget about the elevators being so slow. Sometimes we just got in and rode it until we got to where we wanted to be.

Noticed the TV go in freeze mode usually when coming into port and at night not that there was anything interesting. The channel selections on Royal have always been terrible. These were actually a little better. Carnival used to have Direct TV which we loved but they are doing away with it and turning to probably these same channels.

We had a fantastic waiter Vijay and cabin steward Patterson on deck 7 during our back to back cruises and we thought the entire staff and crew on this ship were awesome. Never encountered any rude staff.

Here are some of my pet peeves: (1) door slammers all day and night (late) very annoying; (2) people who need to group together outside an elevator when you are trying to get off and have to go around them with a walker. You know what if you need to do this move out of the access areas to have your conversation; and (3) my favorite listening to folks call it a boat - it's a "SHIP" not a "BOAT" and there is a difference.
