  1. One thing I do want to mention while I have a second to jot it down.....

Our Server (Delsa) in the MDR mentioned that they were going to have a large changeover of crew on the 18th/19th of January. She said it would be about 200-300 crewmembers.

Delsa mentioned that it usually takes a week for the new crew to settle in and get used to the schedule.

We also confirmed this with our room steward Desmond who said he would be done with his contract and leaving on that date.

Im curious to hear from anyone on the ship this week (Jan 18th) if it affects quality of service at all.

Wow that's is a lot of crew members at one time. I wonder if they are taking the best of them and putting them on the new ship.

  2. people refilling their personal drink containers and allowing the valve of the drink machine into their cups... I don't think there were enough trash bins and collection areas, so there was often food or cups around by the elevators

This is absolutely disgusting and I have seen it happen way too many times. I have even called it to the attention of the staff and they didn't bother to shut down the machine and clean it. This is why we don't eat in the buffet areas, we push elevator buttons with elbow or back of fingers, don't touch railings if possible, etc. Oh and how about the slot machines for those who gamble. I always carry wipes with me and wipe the buttons/keys of the machines. Washy, washy those hands with soap and hot water.

  3. Well, I'm sure technically and depending on what you disclose to them they can take it. On the other hand, if I needed a handicapped room and it was taken from me I would be highly upset. Also, if I booked a handicap room and Royal contacted me to inquire about my specific reasons for needing it, I would find that to be invasive questioning.

I agree with all you said. They cannot ask specific questions about your disability but they do require you to fill out a form for the Special Needs Dept. There are not many of these cabins and you need to book very early if you need one.

  4. I have been charged for minibar the last 3 Royal cruises. I think in the future I will have one day of gratuities removed from bill. That would compensate for the minibar charge. I will inform the guest service personnel of the reason for this. If every CC did this, they may take notice.

I would hate doing this because it only punishes others who have nothing to do with it

  5. On our past two cruises - one on Carnival Glory, the next on Anthem, we requested both times for a large table of 10 as we enjoy dining in the company of other cruisers and meeting new people. On Glory, we were told no problem. Upon arriving on the ship we attended dinner only to find we were being seated at a table for two. So we sat there alone for the cruise duration.

Next cruise, Anthem, we were recommended to send an email to Marlene Parieto at RCL who will help ensure our desire for a large table. We got on board that cruise - we're at a table for two. On that cruise, we noticed we were being rushed but the larger seating tables were getting all kinds of attention. The only attention we received was "are you almost finished, we have others in need of your table."

If we end up at a small table for two again, I'll go ballistic.

Please point me to someone effective I can write to regarding this. I'm starting to doubt already we'll get our large table request. That's really the only complaint I have, you get seated at a small table and they want you to hurry up and eat. That's just wrong.

Is it really such a major insurmountable request to be placed at a large table?

Sorry but I do not believe that any server would say "are you almost finished, we have others in need of your table." If you were not happy with your table assignment why didn't you speak to your head waiter and tell them you would like to be seated at a large table.

  6. The vouchers good for one year till next May, we are all going next Aug. and the $100 bathing suite was the cheapest one one the ship that fit him. It just seems to me that sat night, sun and all day Monday they were dealing with this and getting clothes. Which left Tuesday and Wednesday to have fun. So the 5 day cruise kind of turned out to 2 day cruise. That's all I'm saying. And this cruise just my son and daughter in law went for his birthday, we watched our grandson for them so they can be alone.

Sorry this happened. Some suggestion for next time, when dropping off luggage always wait until you see the porters put the luggage in the bin and don't forget to tip them. Always cross pack even when not flying to a cruise and even take a carry-on with a change of clothes just in case. Question about the free cruise, even though voucher is good for one year, if you book now will it be good for the August cruise. Doesn't hurt to ask. I think Royal was more than generous

  7. What exactly does the maitre d do anyway besides stand in the dining room looking constipated?

Hahaha usually true but Ken is the singing maitre'd and belts out a Sinatra song every night in the MDR. Great voice and he is very personable

  8. Continental breakfast is free with the hanger, anything hot incurs a $7.95 service fee. We were on the Allure last week and found some deliveries to be great as expected, and served with a smile and others were all wrong, presented sloppy, and delivered too early. I suspect there are some staff who no longer want to be bothered with the free deliveries when there are orders that include gratuity in the service fee.

We always tip even for continental breakfast and I think most people do

  9. Had a charge for $6.14 after our Grandeur cruise. I noticed the charge when I received my Visa bill. I called Royal and was told mini bar charge and I said for what the fridge was empty except for 1 bottle of Evian water which was there and I left it there. He asked me if there there were other bottles of water in our room for purchase and I said no. We are D+ so we get 4 bottles of water. My husband spends a lot of time in the cabin and he said no one ever came by to check unless they did it when we were at breakfast or dinner. Anyway look over your Visa bill when you get it because this charge does not appear on your final statement last morning of cruise.

  10. There are very convenient plastic containers. And they don't have to lay in front of everyone. ;)

Dollar Tree $1. Can't understand why someone would just leave them on the sink. I question the fact that cabin steward was MIA for 2 days so wouldn't Royal have someone else cleaning those rooms or did he just not clean their room.

  11. A friend of ours has a friend that just got off a Royal ship. They claim you have to now have to carry your Luggage off the ship. The people that are flying out are the only one's that can leave there Luggage out the door the night before. Has anyone heard of this new rule.

It sounds like your friend may have misunderstood and this is for the walk-off procedure.

  12. Has anyone stayed in cabin 6654 on the Anthem and do you have a picture to share. I'm curious as to how obstructed it is. I am aware that this cabin is a different configuration than others, but will be easier to move around with a walker. I've done searches and come up empty. I did find a youtube for the cabin on deck 7, but I'm interested in 6654. Any info would be appreciated.

  13. I'm looking at the deck plans so I could find the locations of the accessible cabins. I was surprised at the low number and the occupancy.

It is not about finding a cabin on a specific cruise, it's about finding an accessible cabin for 3 on any Horizon cruise.

You should either contact Carnival directly or contact your TA if you use one. I know Carnival is very tough when booking accessible cabins and the cabins are hard to find on the deck plans for some reason and you usually have to book early to get one
