We are doing one leg of this cruise that departs in Southampton on June 19, 2019.  If any leggers are interested in sharing transportation from the port to London Heathrow, please e-mail me at luvourdogs at earthlink dot net.

    Thanks,

    Connie

We are coming in a day early, so we would not be available.  However, you might want to go to the roll call section.  There is a roll call for this section of the world cruise,  and you might get more replies.

I'd like to hear the concierge's version of events. I bet it was much different than the OP's version.

Simply put, the MIL caused the situation. She should not have been in the Diamond lounge. Period. She improperly snuck in. She is old enough to know better. The OP should know better too. If the MIL had a question, she should have gone to guest services like every other non-Diamond level cruiser. She had no right to barge in the Diamond lounge and demand a response from the concierge. She did not pay for or earn that privilege. She tried a short cut and was reprimanded for it. She got her feelings hurt---which was an appropriate result. She should learn from this lesson: no short cuts.

According to the OP's version, the MIL said nothing. Probably not true. What reason would the concierge have to shout, at the top of her lungs, at the MIL. Something is missing from the story.

Also the OP wants to gain sympathy (to support his version of the story) by saying that the MIL lost her husband, the MIL was paying double for her room and the MIL was paying for another cruise. What relevance is that to resolving this particular issue? None. It's just fluff and a distraction.

    She got what she deserved.

She was not asking for help from staff.  She was looking for her family to help her.  I hope you never get what you deserve!

  3. We have been on board Oceania several times on the 4th of July.  We have been surprised that there was no effort to celebrate the event, even though most of the passengers were U. S. citizens.  We do not expect a full blown Christmas style holiday, but a few tokens would have been nice.

That said, we will be on board the cruise line again this 4th of July.  We will bring our own decorations.

  4. We have had the pleasure of traveling on a segment of a World Cruise twice.  We enjoyed every minute of the cruise.  We really didn't know who was traveling for the entire cruise and who was traveling for just one or two segments.

We have traveled on cruises where  large family groups were traveling together. We were not offended when they did not include us in all of their activities.  Why should anyone be offended of a group of friends to socialize together on vacation?

We will be traveling on the last two segments of this trip and are looking forward to meeting all of you.

If that was a serious question, here are some serious answers.

    Lack of popularity...

... for health reasons. FG is an item that contains 12.4 grams of fat (4.1 of which are saturated fat) in a 1 ounce serving.

... Oceania demographics suggests that average cruiser may more interested in a good night's sleep and less interested in dealing with the consequences of eating such a high fat food .

... because people know FG is organ meat, in spite of the high brow use of French rather than the words English "fat liver".

Extra skill demands on the kitchen to execute a properly seared slice. Since there's so much fat, a slice left on the heat too long literally melts into nothingness. And the line between long enough and too long is pretty thin.

Humane treatment of animal issues in the creation of foie gras.

I suspect all these factors -- and others I may not have listed -- combined to produce lots of unordered, wasted product at the end of each cruise.

All of the reasons listed above are why I would never order it.

  6. Sorry, but nowhere did I say that I or we were up at the crack of dawn. In fact, most days it was 4-5 getting there at around9-9:30 on the deck above the Sunset Bar all the way to the front of the ship. And at no time were more than half of the chairs unoccupied for longer than 30-45 minutes. As far as entertainment, don't care where we sat even if was upstairs and 6 in one row and 4 right behind. A big difference to not getting chairs let alone together. This cruise was booked as a group and I guess people have different definitions as to what a chair hog is which is ok. Just don't think your own opinions should reflect on the general population.

I agree that a group who wants to sit together, find chairs together, and are using the chairs are not chair hogs. Chair hogs claim chairs that they intend to use at some future time and then leave to pursue other activities. They are not sitting in the chairs and may never sit in the chairs. They are reserving them for future use. They do not care that others who are at the pool or the theater may not find a seat. The belief that they are more important than anyone else is the issue. If a group of 10 come to the pool, find 10 chairs together, sit in them all day and enjoy the pool; good for them. The problem is when one of them places items on 10 chairs and leaves until the group arrives four hours later. They are chair hogs! If you are not at the pool to stay, do not reserve a chair.

  7. WOW...when did O start that?...I haven't been on board for about 2 years so I guess that's something new? The ones I've been to I had to organize myself as O didn't get involved at all! LuAnn

We have never had any party sponsored by O. We love the cruise line, but they never give any help for the meet and mingles.

  8. I'm basing my observations on the education that I received at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York; education aside, and I say this with all due respect, if you really imagine that body surfing gives you any insight into the way that a SIXTY SIX THOUSAND TON ship handles in bad weather, then I honestly don't see any point in our continuing this conversation.

You definitely win the discussion. I was following this just for fun. I have no experience except for cruising. I just found the discussion interesting. Your reply should end the discussion.!:)

  9. I think we're on the same cruise as the OP. I'm an insatiable over-packer - I'm very organised. I think about what we need to take, lay everything out, put it in the suitcases, and then when everything is packed I go back to the closet and get everything I've 'forgotten'. My husband says it's a disease. I can't bear to be without everything I might conceivably need. Each to their own:)

I am the same way. I would rather have too much than not enough. I am pretty sure I have never had too little.

  10. We are taking a cruise on Oceania in June. We will be stopping in the Shetland Island, Faroe Island, Iceland, and Greenland. We are from Florida where the June weather is really hot. We know it will be cool on the trip, but many have said it can get quite warm. Warm for us is 85degrees. What should we pack? Thanks for your help.:)
