  1. This was a huge debate this past week with my husband who didn't want to wear pants in the 100 degree heat but doesn't have shorts that cover his knees.  He wore the pants, but continued to point out just how many men were in shorts that didn't cover their knees and "they were not being turned away".   I agree with the "respect the rules" part of things but if a venue is going to relax the rules due to the extreme heat, then that should be posted or at the very least, followed consistently.

  2. Another satisfied customer here!  We used Rome Cabs for a transfer from Civitavecchia to our Rome hotel post cruise and then from the hotel to FCO.  Both transfers were comfortable, on-time, and without issue.   Highly recommend them!

  3. We just returned yesterday from our first trip to Rome and a Greek Isle cruise.  I had the same dress code questions and was surprised that overall while we were all trying to beat the heat and humidity, people did tend to dress "nicer".  We chose to eat at the more casual to mid-scale dining venues with outdoor seating in Rome.  My husband wore dress shorts and collared short sleeve shirts for the apertivo and dinner.  I chose maxi dresses/sun dresses or shorts (mid-thigh length) and blouses.  I admit that it was nice to see people in other clothes besides athletic shorts and graphic t-shirts that seem to have become the norm here in the states.

    In Santorini today on Odyssey.
Go at 9 to go and pick up tender tickets (music hall)

We arrived before 1 and they were calling first tender #1 at one and this continued at regular intervals up to tender #65 around 3:30. After that time no tender ticket needed.
They were calling batches of around 7 numbers at a time eg: #10-#17

Only one other smaller Aida ship in today.

Thank you, little britain!   Is ship time the same as on land??

We are on that same cruise right now.  We lucked out as the Odyssey was the only ship in port.  That being said, it was still crazy busy!  We were at guest services very early and managed to get tender tickets group 15, friends who went an hour later were group 40.  We were cleared earlier than planned as well.  We gave it some time to let the cable car line thin out and went about 1:15 mins after they started the process-- at that point they were calling groups 0-22- meaning, if you have a ticket in any of those groups you can go.  We made it to the line that was just past the point where you can buy the donkey ride up-- it was about 45mins from that point up to the top- we debarked at 2 and met our guide at 3:40 which was ten minutes late.  We got in the line at 9:00 to return to the ship as the last tender was 10:15-- we barely made it on the last tender (left within 2 mins of boarding).  I took 1:15 to get the cable car-- the line went down the little street and wrapped around a little square sort of thing.  I cannot imagine how bad it would have been if we waited longer-- although I feel like we were towards the back of the line.

Also-- nice groups of people (not with a guide) kept feeding up the left side of the line  and working their way to the front-- we finally spread our group out across the steps so nobody could slide by.  They would just start talking to people and casually work their way up- sort of impressive.

Thank you for posting!   Can you tell me is ship time the same as on land?   Trying to coordinate with our guide.   Thank you again!

  6. Hello,

We will need to be tested in Rome for boarding.  I have read many notes on the Rome port forum here and Trip Advisor about the hotel's concierge helping the cruisers to find testing sites and set up appointments.  Doesn't sound too difficult or expensive.  Hopefully things will change for us by July.

  7. Hello!

I apologize upfront for my question, but my searches have left me without an answer.  ☺️  We are sailing from Rome in July on the Odyssey.

Is the Solarium Bistro complimentary or is there a charge to eat there like Chop's or Giovanni's Table?  The app says al a carte but has no menu to view.

Trying to plan dining for the 6nights.

    Thanks in advance! ☺️

  8. Hello!

I posted this in the Greece Ports board but thought I'd try here as well...  First timer to the Greek Islands so I feel completely clueless!

We will be on Santorini on July 19, Tuesday until 10pm on the Odyssey.  This day is my husband's actual birthdate.

I'm looking for a restaurant in Fira (since this is where we will have to be to get back to the ship) for a birthday dinner before we go back to the ship. View is most important followed by food and atmosphere.

Does anyone know what time is all aboard when the ship leaves this late?  Curious as to how long I should allow for dinner, what time to make reservation, etc.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Yes!   You can use your set sail pass if you haven't been to cabin for sea pass.

They reload just after midnight every night.

And they work on the very last morning too!  I have used them to get some iced lattes to go for the drive home.

Oh my, I had no idea the vouchers worked on the last morning!!  Great info for our upcoming trip!!  Thanks!

100% agree with loving the new system.  While I do enjoy drinking during the day by the pool on sea days, I now find myself counting the calories more than enjoying the drinks!  LOL

The 4 drinks was perfect for us and even then we got bottled water for the ports on two occasions.  Island Lady, the Oberon was my favorite as well in the MDR!!

Not sure that we will frequent the Diamond Lounge on our next cruise on the Odyssey due to the lack of a view from this spot.  I miss the days of the DL being the in the front of the Viking Crown Lounge and the forward view.

  10. Hello!

My husband and I are booked on the Odyssey for a 6 night sailing from Rome this coming July.  We have booked a Junior Suite so we have dinner access to Coastal Kitchen.  We are traveling for his 60th birthday! 😁

Having never been on a Quantum Plus class ship before and never done dining packages, I'm wondering if I need the UDP or just a 3 night dining package.  The cost difference is $76 per person.

I'm hoping that we will be able to eat "dinner" in Santorini (his actual birthdate) and Mykonos since we are departing those ports at 10pm.

Since we did Chef's Table on Adventure last month and really enjoyed it, I can see us wanting to do it again on this trip.

Any one have experience with using just the 3 night dining package and having it work out well?

Thanks in advance!!   I want so badly for this to be a special trip for my husband!!

  11. FionaMG, thanks, that did cross my mind, but considering the flight departs at 12:50pm, I'm concerned about getting off the ship, transferred to the airport, through security and so on in order to make that flight and have time to test and get a result.

RCCL has stated they do not have answers at this time and that passengers who are booked will receive info via email as things are updated.

While I understand that things are ever changing, it doesn't make it easy to plan and purchase airfare, etc.

  12. I apologize if this has been discussed already, but I wonder how the required testing for US passengers will be handled when disembarking in Rome.  It's my understanding that we need a negative test within 1 day of flight departure.  SO, does this mean that we must stay an extra day in Rome and have a test done in Rome when we disembark?  Or will there be testing on the ship the day before we disembark so that we can fly home the same day?

On hold with RCCL now as I type this...
