  1. Well the airport has been awarded for its food offerings so It should be easy to find something.

Lagkagehuset would be my best bet or perhaps Starbucks for something more familiar.

Thank you! We plan on arriving Friday, and spending the weekend in Copenhagen before the cruise departs Monday afternoon. What would you say is the one "must try" authentic Danish meal?

  2. CASINO

Nonetheless, the casino staff were merciless in asking everyone for their cards (room cards are used, no need for special slot cards) to track play.

Great review, enjoyed reading it! So for the casino, one settles up at the end of the cruise? How does it work (I'm not the gambler in the family, the wife is. I just wanted to know which currency to use, and you answered that question)?

  3. The way it was done on Maui, it seemed better to just return the car by the time of the last shuttle. Since we got out of the luau at 9:23 p.m., we made it (last Enterprise shuttle was about 10:30 p.m.). I talked to other cruisers that said they were making 2 separate car rentals, on both Maui and Kauai.

  4. The POA cruise I was on, couldn't dock at Kona on Aug. 31st, because the Port Authority closed the port due to the nearness of Hurricane Madeline. Also missed was the sailby of the lava flow into the ocean. To compensate, the captain sailed very close to Molokai; as well as give us an extra 4 hours docked in Kauai.

That caused a minor problem for me, as I had a car rental reservation with Advantage. The ship arrived 2 hours early on Thursday. All the other rental companies seemed to have gotten the word that the ship would arrive early, and had their shuttles waiting outside the ship early. Not so with Advantage. One other passenger I was talking to, who also had a reservation with Advantage, became very irate; he wound up going back to the ship, as the other shuttles wouldn't let you board without a reservation. Finally, we found one that would, and we got to the airport, and walked across the street to Advantage; only to still have to wait in line for half an hour!

Mind you, I didn't purchase the ship's internet package, and couldn't call Advantage to ask them to send the shuttle early. I could Google them from just outside the ship, but Google only displayed a link with an address, not a phone number. In hindsight, best to have a contact number before sailing!

The POA also left Kauai 2 hours later than originally scheduled, on Friday.

  5. Weather stations around the world, post their 24-hour precipitation amounts at 1200Z. In Hilo, that is 2 a.m. I just noticed that for the past 2 days, Hilo recorded 5.37" of rainfall for the 24-hour period ending 2 a.m. today (Wednesday); plus 6.13" of rainfall for the 24-hour period ending 2 a.m. Tuesday. That's a 2-day total of 11.50" inches of rain! (Source: Weather Underground).

Hilo also recorded some thunderstorms. Lightning isn't that common in Hawaii.

During the same period, Kona, on the Leeward side of the island, had a trace of rainfall.

  6. I meant to add in my previous post that we called mall security and they said to make sure a receipt is visible on the dashboard to show we were customers and had shopped at the mall.

So I can just buy a candy bar, and leave the receipt visible on the dashboard, and that will keep a rental car from being towed?

  7. Do any of the snorkel tour operators, have an underwater photographer? My wife and I went snorkeling off Bonaire (Dutch Antilles); the tour operator divided us up into groups, and had the photographer swim among the groups, taking underwater photos. Got a photo CD for $25, was happy with that price!

Surely something like that is offered at Kona?

  8. So it's better to ask random members of a message board to predict the weather rather than rely on historical data? I guess so, since threads like this appear seemingly every day...

Some of us random members on here, are meteorologists. ;)

Best to check the weather right before you leave, than rely on historical data (climate). Take any forecast beyond 5 days, with a grain of salt- and that's worldwide.

  9. Just an update. Lair Bear started this thread and the link to his tour is no longer available. I was given the pdf and have been forwarding it to those that ask. I will be going there myself next year and this seems to be a wonderful walking tour with pictures included.

I have forwarded it to all those that have asked.:D

I would like a copy! Many thanks in advance :) My e-mail is: Quasar1011@yahoo.com

  10. Your relative is the poster child for government mandated replacement. The MAIN PAGE torn definitely requires a new passport. But the OP did not state it was the main page. And from the post, I am guessing it was one of the middle blank pages. Could be wrong but the OP did not state that it was a page with IMPORTANT info or a visa page.

It's not the main page with the information. It's a blank middle page. Sorry I didn't make that clear in my OP.

Methinks I will go ahead and get a new one, just to be safe. Thanks for the advice, all! :)

  11. If you only have 7 days, then starting in Puerto Rico is the way to go. The southern itineraries are our personal favorites! Aruba-Bonaire and Curacao......love them all!

I did Aruba-Bonaire-Curacao on RCI in March 2012, departing from Colon, Panama. One can also depart from Cartagena, Colombia on that itinerary. We flew in 2 days early just to do a ferry transit of the Panama Canal. So the Dutch Antilles are accessible from Panama as well. :)
